$2,500 to the winner!

Everything that's been said so far about currently-in-post-production Silent Hill film from director Christophe Gans (Brotherhood of the Wolf) indicates the filmmakers understand what makes the game tick with fans, and a new contest inviting people to design a Silent Hill movie poster is a solid indication the promotional team wants to work with the anxious gamers, too.

The full contest details are available at www.welcometosilenthill.com (http://www.welcometosilenthill.com/), but here's what you need to know: design a poster in JPG or GIF format no larger than 300K using assets provided on the website itself (art from the games are off limits) and submit it by January 3. Staring the next day, the website will start tallying votes for best poster design. If yours happens to make the final cut, the design "may be printed and may be distributed to theaters," which allows TriStar Pictures to back out if all the submitted designs end up sucking the big one. Even if you don't end up printed nationally, though, you'll still score $2,500 cash, 25 passes to see the movie and some other unannounced prizes. I'll take the $2,500, thanks.

Using only art from the site is both weak and a good idea from a creative standpoint. It makes people focus less on trying to photoshop eye-candy and come up with something marketable. I could use an extra 2500....

Hopefully these are at least covered in the movie, otherwise it wouldn't be Silent Hill! ;)

We should have contest here or something among CAGs and then the winner here submits to the contest where all of CAG can vote for it and get one of us $2,500...

If you've made them, post 'em. Since i am in no way artistically inclined, I really want to see what you all are doing.

I talked with Onetrackmind and Javeryh and it seems that there is no way to post it on the public forum without the issue of someone taking the item and submitting it as there own. Now im not saying that any of you guys on the forum would, but the 35K other registered cag'ers who don’t post and just read, well its to much of a risk.

I think that it should be universally decided upon that on 1/3/06 after the submission deadline is over, that we can post them up and get the consensus from you all. Now artists, if you want feedback feel free to share them with people you trust and work "behind the scenes" if you will.

Hope everyone understands.

You did a really nice job anyway. I like the minimalist yet still creepy approach you took. WTF were they looking for?

thanks that was the approach i wanted to take. I wanted to keep it simple and i picked the best picture i could find even though i did a lot of work to the image. Heres the original i worked from.

Don't movies usually look for a black background kind of poster? But great job on the poster OTM, hopefully there will be some more design-my-movie-poster-contest.

Looks like they must have taken pretty much anything that didn't violate the rules? (Just judging by the very high id numbers of Lice and OTM's submissons. Hopefully we can get a few CAGers past the popularity piece of the contest and into the finals. Kind of cop out on Sony's part, but whatever.

I have been going through them one by one and its amazing how many of them are the EXACT same concept and lay out. AMazing... kind of creepy actaully... but if you think of how many of the pictures where usable and of a decent image it makes sense to why they look similar....

edit ( ALot of the iamges are empty. As in 1 through 30 or so... so theres probably around 500 total...)
