Geometry Wars Help?!

For anyone who's gotten some ridiculous score... please help. I seem to max out around 200k. I've managed to survive the first 100k without dying many times, and I've nailed the pacifist acheivement, but after I get to about 150k I get creamed in a hurry. Any tips? How do you best use the black holes - let them go or attack them immediately? This game is rediculously hard and even more rediculously addictive...

My high score is right at 381,000 I think. I think the trick is not really focusing on what you're shooting at, but instead finding a path through the mayhem. It gets to the point where you're pretty much blowing something up no matter what direction you're shooting in, so just try to survive and keep swinging that right stick. Also, don't use bombs if you can help it, but if you have to, they can save your multiplier, which is the ONLY way you're going to score BIG points.

Later on when running away from stuff shoot in the direction you move. This will cut a path for you.

You can use blackholes to your advantage a lot. If they get to big shoot them a bit to shrink the blackholes back down to size. If you are getting tailed by a lot wrap around a blackhole to lose the bastards.

Like the person said above don't use your bombs unless absolutly nesscary. You should easily be able to get around 120k without using bombs.

Anyway, the top ranking player posted the pointers above and its helped me get to the score I am up to now.

Forgot this. Each game has a specific type of main enemy. Try to get the blue diamond one as your main enemy. Its the easiest to rack up points.

I can get to 150K on a regular basis. I've crossed 200K once and when I did I hit 300K with seemingly no trouble. Unfortunately that was the night I downloaded it and one of my first 10 games and I haven't come close to that high score in the past week.

Hey, yesterday I was ranked 32 on the leaderboards (now something like 55, stupid people constantly playing. My Score was 1.2 million or something, I forget).

So anyway, what I do is try to avoid watching what is happening besides the enemies. Sort of ignore the grid and particle effects, and just concentrate on your ship and the enemies. I don't even look at the bullets, I just carve a path through the groups of enemies. (Like said earlier, definately shoot in the direction that you're ship is moving.) Become a good judge of what types of situations require you to use a bomb (most don't). Also, during phases like when a whole bunch of 1 enemy come out (particularly the purple enemy that splits up) NEVER use a bomb, these are the main phases to build your score. If you need more help, let me know.

Thanks guys. I think I was on the right track with most of these (watching my ship vs enemies, shooting the direction I'm moving, avoiding using bombs). Just need more time I guess. Damn, it's fun though...

While I was waiting for my internet to get turned back on, I posted a score of 735,000 or so, by far my best effort. Kinda sucks that it didn't get on the XBL scoreboard. I still got the achievements though. My highest scoreboard score is in the 350,000 range I believe.

If you've got money to burn, the system is sweet. Nothing really groundbreaking but the Xbox Live Arcade and demos and other assorted downloads make it worth the purchase. I'm playing Geometry Wars more than anything else and I don't even care that I've spent way more than $500 to get this thing up and running...

I was just wondering, I remember one night Xbox Live was down for a moment and when I signed back on. All my high scores were lost on the arcade portion of Xbox live and back to zero. I was just wondering if any else experienced the same thing?
