I was wondering if anyone knew if Tokyo Pop was going to release a boxed set of the entire first season of this anime? I tried e-mailing them but I got no response. Just curious if any of you out there knew anything.

The Tokyopop version of Initial D sucks, especially the dubbed shit. Get the set from jackadeal.com or off eBay...they're actually good quality and weren't messed up by Tokyo Pop.

You know all the weird angels during a race? (Like the camera flips, or there's 4 cameras and the car drives to the center of them all or the image's negatized, etc etc.) Take out all that shit and leave in the original intent of the dialogue, and you have the pirated versions.

Tokyopop deserves to be stolen from.

Uhm, as far as I know for what my girlfriend has bought, there are two versions on all discs. They have the original Japanese versions and the totally screwed Tokyo Pop bastardized versions. From what I can remember, if you watch the original version, you should be fine.

The "Tricked out" version is only on the dub. Which is a shame for non Japanese speakers, or people who don't read subtitles. Might be possible to rip the audio track from one angle and put it on the other if you're savvy enough.

As far as I know I've got a boxed set of the first 5 dvds in the collection, and I bought the individual volumes from the dvdempire 50% off anime sale a couple months back. And they screwed up my order. Thats what I get for ordering $1000 in anime.

I'd say why the hell would you buy a pirate copy? Just download it if you're going to do something illegal. Might as well not support an industry that you can easily get something for free.

And yea, I'm an elitist jerk who says you should buy all that you watch unless its terrible crap. Support the industry so we get better titles over here with more dubs. Even though I don't listen to dubs hopefully my spending vast amounts of cash will help get some little kid addicted to naruto and he'll see the same stuff I did and think its bitchin'. Just passing along the moments, it's the least we can do.

Thats the problem, the dub IS terrible crap, music replaced by generic hip hop crap by the "awesome" dj milky, not to mention the sheer difference in the dialogue, "on the next bitchin' episode of Initial D!" isn't a shining example of dubbing. Only pirated series I own though, have about 160 ADV/Tokyopop/Pioneer anime dvds.

Just go download the new Project D. It destroys the whatever they did in the past. my friend burned me the first 20 eps and i still come back and watch them. Project D really got more technical and the battles are done alot better than the past seasons.

Yeah, I guess I might as well just download it instead of paying for pirated versions. All of my other Anime has been purchased legally, like my Trigun complete boxed set and Outlaw Star complete set.

Well, it's more than the video. The dialogue was also changed. The most obvious change is in Natsuki Mogi (Natalie in the english version.), who in the japanese version is a whore. In the first episode where she's in the car with her sugar daddy, he offers to buy her a bathing suit, she says she already has one and there's a line from Papa "I'd like to see you in that bathing suit" and she replies "Hehe....you've already seen everything..." where in the English version (Dub and sub) "Well, I could use a new pair of shoes...". The meaning has completely changed.

That and Tokyopop is responsible for killing the Initial D CCG. Bastards.
