And my obligatory, "You must own this game, it's the greatest amalgamation of visuals, sound, and control in any PS2 game."
It says a lot about a game when I paid absolute FULL PRICE for it.

In a nutshell, it's the PS2 version of F-Zero. Some will say it's better, others worse.

It's a high-speed anti gravity racer. It combines weapon element along with racing. You've got a series of "leauges" which consist of several races, where your finish position and number of eliminations is reflected in your standings, a series of challenges which help you hone in your skills, a "zone mode" which is like a runaway train, where you control your craft that is increasing in speed until your shield runs out.
It is a sensory overload, and at this price, you should grab it if you have any minimal interest in any type of racers.

I think the soundtrack for Fusion is one of the weaker ones, and if you're going just for the music, you should really look into either Wipeout 3 (has Sasha's "Xpander", arguably the best song used in a game ever), or Wipeout XL (which is still my favorite game soundtrack of all time). Still, it's a good listen for the price, and there are several programs that you can find which will let you extract the music from the .WAD so you can listen to it away from your PS2.

I've loved Wipeout for ages. Agreed that XL has the best soundtrack, but 3's is quite good, as well.
I've got the N64 version, and not that enthused about it. Horrid draw-in, and the music tracks are sampled.
I've got F-Zero GX (Had reserved for release date), but I prefer Wipeout Fusion. F-Zero has the speed down better, but Wipeout has weapons, and I just prefer the control. You may spend half a minute tailing somebody before you actually pass them; takes alot of strategy, and I prefer the (relatively) slower pace for that.
BTW, this game was developed by SCE (Sony) Studios Liverpool, not Psygnosis, but they nailed it perfectly. Also, you can read the font in this version. ;)
Great game.

I really should play this. I picked it up months ago at CC for 10 bucks, but have yet to play it. I rented it and liked it, but never played it once I bought it.

I just bought Wipeout 3 at my local Gamestop for $2.99. A pretty good deal since I really bought it for the music. Did you know if you put the CD into your CD player it plays it like a music CD. It has around 13 tracks I think.

Same with me. I played it once and didnt touch it for 4 months. But even though I didn't like it, I traded it in towards an xbox at game crazy and I ended up getting more trade in then I bought it for.

would you say it's better (or worse) than wipeout 3? I can't really get into part 3, so I was wondering if I should get Fusion. I know, Iknow $7 is stupid cheap, but I got so many games, I can't afford to add another game to my list that I won't play.

In terms of gameplay, yes, it's "better" than wipeout 3. Theres numerous game modes to keep your interest for quite a while if you liked any of the precursors. During the height of my gameplay, I was super into ZONE mode, where you control a "runaway" craft.
Musically, the only one that tops 3 is XL, with fusion finishing third on the list, but its still good, but the other two are really near perfect.
