In continuation from my What is the most anticipated movie of 2005? thread from last year, I now present to CAG what is the most anticipated movie of 2006? thread.
2005 looks to be one year where there truly is almost nothing I am looking forward to in the theatres that I just have to see. The only movies that I'm hoping to see are Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Sin City, Charlie and the Choclate Factory, maybe Fantastic Four buy I'm waiting for some reviews and some more previews of it, and The War of the Worlds. Elektra looks interesting and more promising than Daredevil was so maybe it will draw me out to the theatres. Hitch looks pretty good but nothing that I'm drooling and can't wait to see. This year really isn't like year's past where you had great movies lining up one after another or anticipating LOTR and Spiderman and Xmen in a year.
There are some other movies that look fairly decent that I'll probably see just because I'll probably have nothing better to do.
And as it turns out, my prediction was pretty spot on for this year. Yes, I know it may be just a bit premature on what to call the 2005 movie season, but I think now's a good enough time to start evaluting with only a week/2 left in the year. Star Wars, Sin City, Charlie, Fantastic Four, War of the Worlds, and Electra did indeed draw me out to the theatre as well as some less notable films (dates and such) and since I have the ability to go through friends. Star Wars: Episode III redeemed the prequel franchise from being terrible and Sin City is my number one film (now tied with King Kong) for the year. Charlie was enjoyable and Tim Burton's direction was excellent. The most colorful dark film that I have ever seen. Fantastic Four stunk and was a dud and War of the Worlds was great..................................until the end. Elektra was on the level of Daredevil and I've lost all hope for that franchise. Overall though, I have to say that this year was a big dissapointment in terms of good movies, or even just plain ol' Hollywood blow-em up blockbusters. Even in terms of numbers, movie going was down. There just wasn't anything that good.
As for next year though, from all the trailers I have seen and what is known to be coming out, it looks to be a tremendous year. Some movies I'm looking forward to are:
Xmen 3 (Beast is strange and they've already screwed up Juggernaugt and Bryan Singer is no longer there, but I still think the movie will still be able to pull out something at least. hopefully it'll be good, otherwise look for another Fantastic Four)
Final Destination 3 (I enjoy the imaginative killings/deaths of the series and it's just one of those good campy horror movies. Not great or anything, but just a good time waster.)
Idiocracy (I've been following this film for a very long time. Even when Mike Judge was throwing the script/concept around to studios. I'm a big fan of his work (Office Space) and just from the concept of the film it sounds as though it will be great.)
V for Vendetta (Not only does this film have Natalie Portman (an instant plus for any film.) it is my second favorite story from famous Comic book/graphic novel writer Alan Moore, who's works have never been given their justice on the big screen. They've either been mildly good to just awful. I hope the Wachowski brother and umm.....sisterish get this one right. If not, it'll prove my point that they have lost their juice after the first Matrix)
Ice Age 2 (big fan of the first)
Da Vinci Code
MI: 3 (I'm not really all that interested in this one, rather I can't wait to see the promotional tour Tom Cruise will do for this one. I want see some more jumping on couches.)
Saw 3 (Always in for another Saw)
Sin City 2 (Oh please oh please oh please, but if not, then 2007)
Superman Returns (I didn't think they could pull this one off, especially when in my mind's eye Reeve is Superman, but after seeing what they did with the Batman franchise, my hopes are up for it. Also, as of the trailer I saw for it, it just simply blew me out of the water for this film.)
Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest
And that's about it for those that I remember at the moment.
I may think of some more.

X3 will be a big hit the first week at the box-office no doubt, as is with the rest of the superhero movies.

My god, your list of movies you're looking forward to is insanely hard to read, so i've redid it for you.
Xmen 3
Final Destination 3
Idiocracy
V for Vendetta
Ice Age 2
Da Vinci Code
MI: 3
Saw 3 (Always in for another Saw)
Sin City 2
Superman Returns
There.
X-Men 3 will be a hit at the box office but the movie itself will suck if the spoilers are true. Are they even going ahead with Saw 3 since the producer died?

Right now the only thing I'm really looking forward to is Silent Hill. I would give almost anything for them to not fuck it up.

Anyway, yaeh X3 will probably do well, but be a lemon. I know the producer died to Saw, but I think the movie is still on track for a release sometime next year.

I've got to disagree about this year being a disappointing year for movies, as there were plenty of excellent movies to see this year. There were at least 8 or 9 very good movies that I've seen this year.
As for next year's films, these look interesting enough:
Grandma's Boy
Curious George
V for Vendetta
A Scanner Darkly
X-Men 3
Nacho Libre
Cars
Click
Superman Returns
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Barnyard
Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny
Happy Feet
Ghost Rider
One thing I noticed at the schedules movies for this year is that there's a shit ton of CG movies coming next year, at least one or two a month if not more.

pirates of the carabian part 2 will top it or superman it would be crazy to think that x3 will top either of these they win by default even if there both crapfests.
Im definatly looking forward to superman tho at first i figured it would be garbage due to the casting of superman the trailer and info out for this movie so far is great and looks as smooth and adult as batman begins.
I dont like the pirates of the caribian movies at all but I know they do well.
x3 may be third depending on how cheesy they go from what ive seen ..very disapointing.

I think the guy who did the Dawn of the Dead remake is doing Day for 2006, the original Day wasn't good in my opinion (loved original Dawn).

A different guy is directing it as is a different screenwriter writing it (the moron who writes the chimp-fest "Final Destination" death scene movies). So I'm sure the people who thought "Land of the Dead" sucked because of it's apparent drama and character study (which could be found in Romero's other zombie films; not like it was something new) will love the new "Day of the Dead", as it will be a death scene galleria. It's also set for a 2007 release.

Yeah. I don't know what the Hell is going on with it, though. It's been in pre-production for a couple of years now, and the cast and crew has revolved numerous times. At one time, Benicio Del Toro was slated to direct and star in -- now Depp is the only actor listed. Josh Hartnett was among the cast, as well.
It's too bad that Terry Gilliam isn't directing this... then again, it'd be cool to see the whole Thompson story telling under a different direction, too.
Hopefully is will go full-steam ahead.
I'll change my vote to...
Snakes ona Plane!
Day of the Dead was the shit. :O
Then again, the film was limited by it's own setting (underground bunker). Regardless, it was still a very effective character study.

Yeah, I want to see the movie, too.
I was really confused about the making of this movie. I remember hearing in early 2005 that the principal photography was actually completed... and that made sense, because Depp had spent several months living with Thompson again. However, recently I've been hearing that they haven't even started on the movie...
Well, it should be pretty good, either way. Thompson was definitely quite a character; I noticed that after both times Depp lived with him, you could still see he was in "Gonzo-mode" for a good several months afterwards.

That, and it was limited by budget, he had a much grander original idea but had to pare it down since they halved his budget because he wouldn't deliver an R rating cut. http://www.un-official.com/The_Daily_Script/dayofthedead.html

Ahhh, the movies... how I hate thee. I only saw one movie in the theater this year (SWIII) and I truely hope to go to zero movies in 2007. It could have been zero this year but I did see all 5 previous SW movies in their original runs so I had to make it 6. Superman and X3 are at the top of my list this year - hopefully we will see a DVD release before Christmas so I can see them!

Hey OP what about Chronicles of Narnia, King Kong, and Aeon Flux ( Am I the only one that liked this movie ? ) for good movies of 2005. Is there a place to view the movies coming or possibly coming out in 2006.
Are you talking about my original post (anticipated movies 05) or about the movies I actually enjoyed of 05. If it was what I enjoyed of 05 than I have to say that I greatly enjoyed King Kong, no not greatly, absolutely loved it. Now tied for my favorite movie of the year with Sin City (even tops my best list, with guess what Sin City). Aeon Flux I enjoyed, but when you take show that had so much depth and mystery to it, not too mention as complex as it was and try to dumb it down and fit it within a two hour time frame, it kind of loses its quality. Narnia I disliked greatly. I just couldn't find it to be a fantasy/adventure story enough with how much its Christian allegories were seeping throughout the film. Now don't get me wrong, I understand the book (had to read it in school) and the history behind it, etc., but I've just never been a fan of it. It's just one of those things that is tried to be played off as a children's story, but is so blatantly seeped in its religious beliefs that it just sort of .....I dunno, whatever won't go into it. Anyway, also all three of those movies (minus King Kong which I simiply forgot to put on my list) sort of flew under my radar/I only found out about them during the year 05.

Big fan of Hunter S Thompson and Fear and Loathing, so if Rum Diary makes it out in 06 I'll definitely see it.
Chaos, not really too interested in. Maybe if I hear/read a bit more about it it'll pique my interest.
Good Shepard, will wait for DVD at the earliest. Probably will just pass.
The Fantastic Mr. Fox, how the hell did I forget about that one.:wall::-s#-o
About Inland Empire, never been a big David Lynch fan, ever so I'll pass on that one.

I like Romero movies, but Day is his most lacking of the original trilogy. I thought it sucked, but Brak's word couldn't have been more truer about his take on the movie.
Oh and how could I have forgotten about Snakes on a Plane! That movie is just going to be badass.

I so hope that line is on the poster for the film. If it is I'm gonna buy one in a heartbeat.

THe only movie on there I'm looking forward to is X-Men 3. I know none of the spoilers, nor care to learn anything about the spoilers or anything about the movie until I see it.
I thought Sin City was fun, but was so disparate, that any sequel would just be like watching episodic television.
I refuse to see MI3 if it stars scientologists (http://www.tomcruiseisnuts.com/)
As for the rest of them, meh. I can't even remember if I saw a movie in the theater this year.

Movies I will probably see (followed by how I think they'll do it right or screw it up):
Glory Road (It'll be good)
The New World (probably be crap)
Underworld 2 (has potential, but it'll not pan out)
Final Destination 3 (same here)
The Pink Panther (good stars, lots of potential so it should work well)
A Scanner Darkly (Love the Phillip Dick story and the animation, but Keanu Reeves still can't act)
Night Watch (Huge overseas so I have high hopes)
Inside Man (Spike Lee+Denzel+Clive Owen= an awesome film)
Ultraviolet (looks like a decent sleeper film if Wimmer can get Jovovich to act)
Ice Age 2 (should be fun again)
Cars (Dunno about this one, 1st preview looked awful and the 2nd looked pretty good)
The Will Ferrall Nascar movie (tons of oppertunity for funny)
Flight 93 (Dunno if I'll actually see it, but the first major film about 9/11 is worth a mention)
Posiedon (Sound like it's shaping up to be the movie version of Lost, which is a good thing)
Silent Hill (Please let it be good...)
V For Vendetta (This one has so much potential but with the wingus and dingus brother's directing it'll probably suck noodles)
x-Men 3 (again I'm unsure, things are shaky thus far)
Superman Returns (It's looking good, hopefully that dude can act and they change the cosutme)
Pirates of the Caribbean 2 (should be awesome)
Cainso Royale (if it makes it out we'll have a new Bond soit's at least worth seeing)
Children of Men (another one I think will be a good sleeper)
Eragon (if it's like the books it'll be pretty entertaining)

Hostel - I can't wait! I read an interview with the director and the movie just sounds amazing!
Underworld: Evolution - The first one wasn't as epic in scope as it could have been. I hope the sequel brings on a full on Vampire vs. Werewolf war...
Curious George - Looks like good clean fun. I noticed on IMDb the quote "with the worst-looking animation we've seen for any recent theatrical release." I think it looks sharp. I'm kinda getting tired of CGI. Anything that looks new and different is refreshing (think Lilo & Stitch).
Madea's Family Reunion - Had no idea who Tyler Perry was until a guy I worked with at Comfort Suites made me watch Madea's Class Reunion and now I'm hooked. It's really good stuff.
V for Vendetta - Loved the comics. I hope this does it justice!
Ice Age 2 - First one was great. We need more saber-tooth squirrel!
A Scanner Darkly - Probably going to suck... but it looks really interesting!
Basic Instinct - Big name movie. Good bet for a "big" movie... now a good movie on the other hand...
Flight 93 - Could be great... I just hope it does the scope of the tragedy justice.
Mission: Impossible 3 - The popcorn action flick of the summer. You know... guilty pleasure-ish.
The DaVinci Code - Tom Hanks has been on a roll recently. He's just been making great movies. Plus it's a Ron Howard film.
X3 - Same as V for Vendetta. I just hope it lives up to the other movies.
Nacho Libre - C'mon... you know it's gonna be good.
Superman Returns - Supes looks horrible... but maybe if anyone can sell me on him, it's Singer.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - Loved the first!
Jackass: The Movie 2 - Should make tons of money unless Jackass is no longer trendy when it comes out...
Grind House - A Tarantino slasher film and a Rodriguez zombie film together with phony trailers. Count me in!!!
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning - If it's anywhere as good as the remake, I'm there!
The Grudge 2 - Could be good.
Saw III - Loved the first two. I hope this one does the late producer justice.
Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny - No brainer!
Stranger Than Fiction - Sounds awesome and original.
Casino Royale - A rebooted, classic Bond. I think it depends on how they develop the character (it's supposed to be the story that shapes Bond into how we know him) whether it will be good or not.
Foodfight - A shockingly awful cast... but having actual food mascots duke it out? Hmmm...
Charlotte's Web - As sappy as it sounds, I love the book and the original cartoon (the sequel doesn't shaq-fuing exist. Ok?) so if they can make it a good movie, I'm there.

If you vever studied the books or anything you probably wouldn't even notice the relgious allegories (more so than other films at least, they were played down slightly more in the movie anyhow) and even with the religious tones it's still a fantasy/adventure story (I dunno how else you'd classify it). Also it IS a children's story, but if you didn't like it then it's your perogative, I just find it odd you don't like a film because of relgious allergories and tones but The Da Vinci Code is on your list of most anticipated films of next year.

Last I heard was that Christopher Tolkien, who runs the Tolkien estate, won't let the book be optioned for a film. He was against Jackson's LotR trilogy in the first place because he feels like film can't do his father's work justice, but Jackson somehow got the rights to do the trilogy.
I took a LotR class in college a few years back as a filler and that is what I heard. Who knows if it's true.
V for Vendetta
Pirates of the Caribean 2
probably a few others that I'm missing but that's the gist of it.

XMen 3 wil be a blockbuster. Da Vinci Code will be a great movie but wont sell like X men will. Final Destination will bring in tons of money but will get shitty reviews and everyone who sees it (including myself) will regret the 6.50.

Yeah I wasn't real big on the Da vinci Code either. Shame too because the cast is looking good (lots of actors I like in it) and Hanks+Howard usually ends up being a pretty good film. But seeing as how I didn't like the book (talk is the movie stays fairly close too), I'm not going to pay to see the movie at all. Maybe I'll borrow it from a friend or something when it hits DVD.
Thought of a new one that hasn't been mentioned yet, The Warriors remake if it makes it out umm...next year. Hopefully it can be a new interpretation of the classic or at least come close to how good the original is. I hope it can impress me as much as the Dawn of the Dead remake did.

But seeing as how I didn't like the book (talk is the movie stays fairly close too), I'm not going to pay to see the movie at all. Maybe I'll borrow it from a friend or something when it hits DVD.
I feel the same way. I've enjoyed all of the Howard-Hanks films - maybe they'll be able to salvage this mess the same way Tom Clancy's novels were streamlined and dramatized by Harrison Ford and crew. It's going to be a renter for me.

I just found out that there is going to be a dark Alice in Wonderland coming out, based on the "American McGee's Alice" videogame. First Silent Hill and now this - the fact that I am looking forward to movies based on videogames is truly a sign of the apocalypse.
Anyway, according to IMDB Sarah Michelle Gellar is playing Alice, not my favorite choice but if the movie manages to get made I'll be happy. Too bad Wynonna Ryder isn't doing interesting movies anymore - she would have played this disturbed role perfectly.

Thought of a new one that hasn't been mentioned yet, The Warriors remake if it makes it out umm...next year. Hopefully it can be a new interpretation of the classic or at least come close to how good the original is. I hope it can impress me as much as the Dawn of the Dead remake did.
They are remaking the Warriors? THats Blasphemy!!!!!!!
They are remaking the Warriors? THats Blasphemy!!!!!!!
That's why this year they came out with a Warriors Director's Cut on DVD, also to coincide with the video game from Rockstar.
I agree, but hopefully it will turn out for the better like the Dawn remake
here's some more info

Tony Scott (of True Romance) is helming it. Could be alright I guess. not good to make assumptions too early. My only fear for the movie is that they'll try to turn into a thug/hip-hop/rap movie (not that rap/hip hop is bad, but I think you catch my drift). They'll probalby turn it into a hoodlum radio crap type of thug life inspired movie and not catch the essence of the original.

Or maybe Christina Ricci. Her eyes remind me of the Alice from the game...

It has been mentioned already, but I'm looking forward to Hostel. (http://diehostel.de/eng/index.html)
A buddy of mine showed me the trailers and I was hooked. It looks pretty sick and twisted.
There also are a couple of movie clips (http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/hostel.html;_ylt=Am_NkjRyTAKytnHozddX3.dfVXcA) from Yahoo.

I just got the new issue of Premiere and leafing through their 2006 preview, I remembered a bunch of great-looking flicks that I forgot about.
Flags of Our Fathers (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0418689/) - It's Clint, he's proved he's got the chops.
Zodiac (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443706/) - David Fincher is directing. 'Nuff said.
The Departed (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407887/) - Martin Scorsese's next film, an adaptation of Infernal Affairs. Looks to be pretty good so far, and I think Marty will do a great job of exploring the story's themes.
A Good Year (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0401445/) - Interesting to see Ridley Scott tackling a much more intimate story, especially considering Kingdom of Heaven pretty much flopped.
For Your Consideration (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0470765/) - It's by Christopher Guest, so that should make some of you psyched. I've yet to see any of his stuff, but this looks good. And Ricky Gervais, too!

Oh yeah, I forgot about The Departed. The original was excellent and this one looks like it'll be just as good if not better.
Also, your custom title should be "))<>((".
