I was just sitting here enjoying a cigar, when I started to wonder who else on CAG is a cigar afficionado. So I thought I would start a thread to see what everyone's favorites are. I was just smoking a CAO Gold Torpedo, which is a favorite of mine along with quite a few others. If anyone's a cigar smoking one, feel free to post that as well...even if you only smoke Swisher Sweets. ;)

PS - I'm actually hoping to get a humidor for X-mas to start having a better supply!

I've ordered a lot of here for myself and for my dad:

Thompsen Cigars (http://secure.thompsoncigar.com/default.aspx?tlcode=OTC-16293)

It might help to look around there a little, even if you buy them at a local store somewhere.

That is the worst cigar retailer ever. Try famous-smoke.com or Jrcigar.com much much better prices.

Not a prob. Oh man just starting, its really more of a hobby. Most people don't see it that way. But it's no different then having a wine, scotch, or stamp collection. Thompson is the worst retailer ever. For example La gloria cubans are $98 at thompson and then everywhere else they are $58-$65 for the exact same thing.

The true question how many he smokes a day. Their is two types of cigar smoker. One who does it for nicotine who smokes 3-20 a day and then their is others who smoke for a hobby normally one every few days. If he smokes the 3-10 a day he probably has a favorite brand. However if he is a hobbyist with it he will appreciate anything that is handmade (by that I mean nothing you could get from the drug store)

I'm definitely on the hobby side then. Once in awhile and love trying different kinds.

Thats cool I'm on the hobby side as well. I recommend buying lots and lots of samplers then you will find what you like and don't like i.e. sweet, spicy, leathery, coffee notes etc.

I'll be the first I admit I know nothing about cigars .. hence the following question. Is it true that you're not too inhale cigar smoke into your lungs, just your mouth?

Yep just into your mouth. You never inhale cigars you just puff on them. Cigars are a lot like wine. You mix and age the tobaccos just like wine grapes. Their is different tobaccos, and they make many different flavors. Some cigars start off fruity or spicy the turn into a leather flavor or, citrus, honey, pepper, nuts, wood etc. It's truly amazing.

Here is a link for how cigars are made. Some are aged for up to 12 years. In Europe aging cigars is popular. You buy 10 boxes or so then have the cigar store, store then in lockers for 10 years or so then go and pick them up.

A friend of mine had a bunch of cuban cigars and I asked for one to smoke later. I never did anything with it though cause I hate the smoke, and it hurts my eyes and lungs whenever I'm around a lot of it. I kinda wanted just to try it cause cubans are so special in the u.s., but I kinda figured I'd never use it and it would just sit there. That's is what happened.

The fact that they are everywhere in canada (and they advertise to american tourists) kinda made it less special.
