Wii Controllers Update,

Went back to the same Target I mentioned earlier, the one in Eastlake Parkway, to look for something and they got a pretty nice sized shipment today. Minimum 12 Wii Remotes, 3 Nunchuks, and 5 Classic Controllers when I left (Picked up two Nunchuks for Ma12kez's cousins). They said there was more in the back as well.

Get to it MarkMan!

yeah, Mooglestar's the Eastlake Target-checking master. that Target's not the closest to me (that'd be a tie btwn. North 4th and Broadway locations), but it's definitely the nicest. the wife and i drive a little extra to enjoy the cleaner store. plus my pal works in the video game dept.

Ok MarkMan you get another shot.

Went back to Eastlake Target tonight (for reasons only Ma12kez knows). Minimum 14 Wii Remotes, 10 Classic Controllers, 8 Nunchuks. The items are to be found in two locations. The first area is at the sides of the Wii demo unit. The rest of the stock can be found behind the glass under the Wii games.

Godspeed.

I'm definitely having a blast with it. I don't really think it's any of those as it is akin to Harvest Moon. There's a lot of depth to it and if my 360 wasn't broken I'd be playing it right now. A surprising amount of strategy, great graphic style, and addictive gameplay definitely makes it a must have, imo.

And I still haven't found any luck with Wii accessories in the San Marcos area.

I overheard a sales rep at Circuit City at Grossmont say that they would have some Sunday morning. He said they were opening at 10:00 a.m.

By the way, I must share my joy with everyone: I just got confirmation from nintendo.com that they are shipping my Wii component cables. No more blurry Twilight Princess!

The bills were actually hot before we played them, so they weren't a horrible team. They won 3 of their last 4 and that loss was by 1 against the colts.

My mind would have exploded if we lost to this team or the Raiders. I believe that the Chargers are a Super Bowl caliber team, but they better start playing like one.:wall:

best buy actually did a partial PM of amazon for me for the 52" samsung.

it was 4999 on BB's site and 3899 at amazon.

they sold it to me for 4100. and tossed in some cables and other goodies.

my only intention there was to look at the TV's but it was a bargain i didn't want to pass up.

and chargers need to lose the next 3 out of 4 to not make the playoffs, go bolts!

Every win is tough in the NFL.. and "any given sunday", anything can happen. Sure the wins weren't against impressive teams, but I just meant that they were on a streak.

Anyway, we won. Bring on the chiefs sunday night.. I'll be barbequing before the game, getting drunk during it.

clayfu

the chargers are playing like a superbowl team.

When one facit of their offense isn't playing well another equally impressive part is taking control.

not many teams can say they are able of doing that.

also the conditions in NY were horrible, i dont think the chargers have played in snow like that in awhile.

They are going to have to face the same conditions in a few weeks in seattle, so we'll see how they do.

12-09-2006, 12:25 PM
MarkMan, I'm glad to hear you liked it. I read IGN's review for it and they made is sound like a rehash of the prior DS title (HOD?).

How did you get a review copy? Are you in the industry? I know you buy (and play) a lot of games, but didn't know about you connections.

MarkMan
12-09-2006, 04:25 PM
I do a lot of things on the side... I write for online publications, do some print work, I also news gopher for a few official sites. I've writte portions of a BradyGames strategy guide well.

I've been going to E3/trade events for years now...(8 years I think)... and it's still fun to me. :)

Regarding reviews, I don't really listen to them, just like to see their 'opinions' most of the time they are on point. But unless that reviewer is familiar with the game(I mean like, religious familiarity), I don't usually buy in. If you played DoS and PoR for a good amount of time you will notice a LOT of difference between the two. PoR is more of the old school CV, level design, command moves, subweapons/spells etc. In my opinion it's the best merge of old school/castleroid design.

Just my 2 cents though. :)

I've been going to E3/trade events for years now...(8 years I think)... and it's still fun to me. :)

this last E3 was the first year i didn't go in 8 years, oddly enough. i haven't been impressed with it for the last 2-3 years though. the fun has kinda worn off and mostly i'd go for the free junk and to hang out with some friends i don't see very often. we'd also stop at Tommy's and Game Dude somewhere in between. of course, now we have a Tommy's down here and Game Dude now kinda sucks, so there's two less reasons to go anymore. ;)

i did miss playing the new stuff before everyone else. i remember about 3 years ago (i think), i only wanted to play Treasure's Tiny Toons multiplayer/party game. i stood behind this stupid hooker of a girl for almost half an hour waiting (it was only on one kiosk - yay!), and never got my chance. i told myself i'd come back but forgot. to top it all off, the game never got released. anyone remember that game? dang it.

Has anybody seen a christmas stocking for around $5 and what store? I mean actually saw a stocking in person for around $5.

I've done all of my christmas shopping online. The cheapest place I found a stocking online was target and it was $12 shipped. I just need to use it for stocking stuffers, so I don't want to spend too much money on one.

I'll probably end up checking Target last minute on the 22nd or 23rd if I haven't found one by then, since I used to work there and I know their Christmas inventory, but I'm too lazy to make stops to check.

Heavily underestimated that one, Target had like 40 people in line already at 6:00AM. I'm sure people started waiting around midnight or earlier. Oh well, my brother knew that these were nearly impossible to get, so he is not at all expecting one for Christmas, although it would have been a great surprise. I got an amazing deal on mine from another forum:

DS Lite and original packaging with BB Protection Plan
New Mario Bros
Mario Kart DS
Resident Evil DS
Car and House Chargers
New Mario Bros Guide
9 game cases

Everything was in MINT condition for $120. (Actually was $110 but I offered him $10 extra if he would put it on eBay since I didn't trust his feedback).

I modded it and sold Mario Kart for $20 and Resident Evil for $15, so that whole DS bundle cost me around $85.

Also Sports Arena, Grossmont, and Eastlake locations have the pink one in stock (with Sports Arena having more). Ask employees to check in back or in their computer system to see if they do have it in back.

i'd do it in a heartbeat..

i'm gonna go check out the walmart at national city right now, someone said they were in stock for all colors.. if not..
i will check 2 more gamestops near where I live..
and iffffff not

i give up.
DS LITES ARE OFFICIALLY SOLD OUT FROM SAN DIEGO.
:bomb::bomb::bomb:

I recall about... 2 nights ago, someone buying a Black DS Lite bundle from Costco (The one on H. Street in Chula Vista). Costco's bundles are in general the best bundle available if you are forced to buy one. So yeah, you may want to check Costco.

Continuing along that vein, if anyone knows where I can find a set of fair-quality GC dance pads in SD, let me know. Alternatively, they can be universal, but must be GC compatible.

Not a BIG deal, but it'd be nice. I got Mario DDR the other day and have no pads.

Ah, search Wii Points, click on the only result. Look for a big red bar that reads "Check Store Availability." Type in your Zip Code, and hit the "go" button. A pop up should appear with a bunch of stores nearest you and the amount they have in stock.

i got a bunch of great non-video game related stuff, but i also got all 3 of the BK 360 games, Excite Truck, Metal Slug Anthology, and some Wii gloves (yay!)... i wasn't even expecting to get any gaming stuff, but my friends and family were really thoughtful and knew just what i liked. good times.

Unless I overlooked everything, the National City TRU didn't have any of the sale games I was looking for which was:

Zelda Minish Cap
Castlevania DoS
Resident Evil DS
Odama
Amplitude
Atelier Iris 2
Steambot Chronicles
Feel the Magic
Dot Hack//GU
Grandia 3
Metal Saga
NHL 06

I didn't feel much like going to Industrial Blvd or Grossmont so I just went home. Oh well I've got other games I need to play.

I did go to Fashion Valley at 8 this morning to return a shirt my Auntie got me at Sun Diego, which was having a pretty nice sale. Also today is the first day of the Nordstrom's Men's Half Yearly Sale. Some decent deals to find there if you are looking to up your wardrobe.

The Industrial Blvd. store had multiple copies of Odama, Atelier Iris 2, Steambot Chronicles and Metal Saga as of half an hour ago. Somebody snagged my copy of Grandia 3 from National City which annoys me, but I'm guessing I can find one when I get back home to LA tonight. Good luck!

so i'm home in san diego for a week. i know there was a discussion of mexican food earlier in this thread but what's the best mexican food around the mira mesa area (or within 20 minutes)? i've been gone for awhile so i'm guessing that all of my old haunts have gone downhill or changed I live in Mira Mesa, so I know plenty about the spots around here.

Don't go to Alejandro's (the old Albertos) that used to be next to Mervyn's and across from TRU. I haven't ate there, but everybody tells me to stay away.

There are three really good spots on Miramar Road. Palomino's in the business area where subway is located has the largest burritos I've ever seen. I swear they are 4-5 inches wide and 8-10 inches tall. I haven't ate there since Chargers training though--since around july or august. This place is considered to be a hidden secret for most people.

The usual spot on Miramar rd and my favorite taco shop in north county that I go to is Roberto's. If you're coming from the 15 going eastbound on Miramar rd, it's located in the plaza right after the pyramid. They give a very large amount of carne asada fries. I think this is the best place in north county for fries. California burritos are very meaty, so if you use a lot of hot sauce, they can start to taste/look really dark. I only eat the fries and california burritos, so I can't comment about anything else they serve. Popular spot. Very busy late at night.

There is also another taco shop directly across the street from the Denny's on Miramar Road that is really good, I just haven't ate there in 2-3 years. Popular spot. Also busy late at night.

In Mira Mesa, El Patron (Cotixas) right next to Ralphs is decent. I like their burritos, their carne asada fries are different than the usual since they are more restaurant style with beans, pico and large fries. You can add or take out whatever you want, of course. If you're on a budget, they have bean and cheese burritos, chicken mixed burritos, and some other varities for $1.59. Fish tacos are just $0.99. I go to the cotixas next to my house for cheap mexican food if I don't want to spend so much or if I want to eat a little lighter. If it's like the Cotixas next to my house, they close at 10:00pm, 10:30, or 11:00pm. I forget which time.

Juanbertos on black mtn rd right off of miramar rd in the same plaza as Rice King is decent and better than it used to be, but I don't eat there as much. It's a somewhat popular spot though. Can be busy at night. Lots of marines, and it's right next to a bar that marines go to.

If you can only pay by card, Sombrero always accepts card. Their food is good, but isn't as big as most places. That one is located where the old nickel city used to be and in the same plaza as Chuck e cheese's , in the plaza right across from the Denny's on Mira Mesa Blvd.

So anyway, the best spot in my opinion is Robertos on Miramar Road.

I need to get a new car stereo. I got a gift card for Fry's so I am pretty sure I am going to go there to get everything it is that I need (Receiver, Dash Kit, and Wire Harness I believe). Does anyone know if they do free installation there, as I am completely oblivious about anything dealing with my car? If so is there a minimum I need to spend on my receiver to get free installation?

Any help would be great guys, thanks.

edit: oh yeah, also what time does Fry's open? I'd like to get it done as quick as possible.

edit2: After I found out Fry's did not do free installation and their selection was pretty wiped out, I went over to Best Buy in National City, whose selection was just as bad, but had free installation. Ended up getting a Pioneer System, iPod Interface, and all the install goodies and installation for a little under $300 (there goes all my Christmas money, and some). A lot more than I wanted to spend, a very unCAG like move, but quality wise I think I will be happy. Their installation bay was packed, so I gotta bring my car over there tomorrow morning.

it's funny how you can go to a lot of stores now and find a ps3. not that there's a lot of them out there, or people dont want them, people just don't have the money.

I won't be at the game, but I'm going to an office part to watch it. Any of you guys hear of anyone actually finding those tickets in the UT?

Any of you guys considering the $100.00 trade in offer for a PS2 toward a PS3 w/ EB? I'm on the fence about it...
I was thinking about the ps3 deal this morning, but decided not to. I'm going to wait to wait and see which system is better between the ps3 and 360.

25 hours until gametime..

yea i considered it too. but my son has a lot of ps2 games and im not abotu to let him near a ps3. also, i just cant justify the purchase.
it took me a year of games to justify the $400 360 purchase, its gonna take more for a ps3.

ill be drinking beer, eating pizza, and hooting and hollering durign the game tomorrow.
my neighbors know when im watching the game. =)
im very very interested to see how belichek has gameplanned and how the chargers as a whole react and specifically rivers.
this has potential to be a classic playoff game. im amped

I'm debating whether I should get a Wii or a 360.. if I get a Wii, I'm getting Zelda with it. If I get a 360, I'm getting Gears of War and Madden (free at CC or BB). And I'd also need to get component cables for whichever system I buy.

What do you guys recommend? I'm not up to date on the next gen.

And where can I get some cheap component cables for the 360 and for the wii? I've heard Walmart has some cheap psyclone wii cables for $9.xx. Anybody check Fry's?

Depends... The Wii is really good for the short but sweet pick up and play games. I find myself playing Rayman, Monkey Ball, Wii sports and Trauma Center MORE on my Wii then playing Zelda. Mostly because I can play those games with my lady or friends that come over. Plus I think Wii games, even ports, kind of add a breath of fresh air to playing games. I owned COD3 for 360 and had COD3 for Wii checked out from Gamefly. I just assumed I would like COD3 single player more on 360 but I ended up playing the Wii version wayyyyyyy more. I boiled my reasoning on that one down to the fact that it makes conventional games, like first person shooters, a whole lot more fun because you're doing something new. I think Marvel: UA was garbage on both the 360 and Wii but I can tell you once again that I had a lot more fun with it on the Wii.

If you just want to do some online gaming and play some really sweet fast paced action games right now, then buy a 360. If you're more into playing by yourself than with your friends then buy a 360. If you're questioning your sexuality then buy a 360. Okay, the last line was a joke. But seriously, the 360 is more of a chill console where you can just kick back and relax and play some single player stuff after work or something unlike the Wii which can tire you out and feels more like a party system.

I boils down to what type of gaming you want to do more. Do you want a party system to play new and old games with your buddies? Or do you want a HD system that will fill your your action gaming (and online gaming for that matter) needs?

Honestly man, I would say to buy both. You'll have such different experiences on both that it will justify both purchases.

The only system I can't vouch for right now is a PS3. While it seems cool, I see no point in dropping 600 bones if you have a 360.

The 360 premium pack ($399.99) comes with HD component cables.

Notable 360 games:
Table Tennis
Gears of War
Lost Planet
Rainbow Six
Tomb Raider
Prey

Notable Wii games:
Trauma Center
Warioware
Rayman
Zelda
Excite Truck
Call of Duty 3

Remember, this is all my opinion from my experiences with both systems. Chances are you'll get a 360 before a Wii though. Not because you wont want a Wii, but because you wont be able to find a Wii. Also, if you plan on buying a Wii and stumble across any nunchucks or wiimotes before you have one, BUY THEM. You'll regret it when you buy the system and go on the hunt for an extra nunchuck or wiimote.

And it looks like I'll be leaning more towards a 360. Like you said, the wii is probably going to be more of a party system.

The 360 would take full advantage of my audio/video equipment, plus I really play games by myself most of the time. I rarely play videogames outside of my house. Most people I know would never own a wii, so I would never have anybody to trade games or talk about anything wii-related.

I don't know anymore than 1-3 people who are into gaming like I am, and I'm not much of a hardcore gamer anymore. Work, school, going on the internet, and a social life make videogaming to the last priority for me (so why buy a 360? I have no fucking idea. I just feel the need to buy something right now and I'd like to step into the next gen). I also for the past hour looked up xbox 360 modding and hack forums and found a few ideas I want to do.

The only reason I would get a wii is because my girl wants one and slightly because of zelda.. but I don't think those reasons are enough. I just don't see anything in the wii's future that would make a wii purchase worthwhile.

The 360 and the Wii are two completely different consoles, and in order to get the best experience you'd have to purchase both. The 360 will cover the majority of your gaming needs: DVD, GO ON LIVE, H.., fps, multi-platform games etc., while the Wii will only be as strong as their first party titles, as well as some select third party titles.

To put it in easier terms: 360 = 8-); Wii = :grouphug:. So if you plan on gaming solo for the majority of the time over (there aren't too many games that allow for a guest to join over Live) go with a 360. However, if you always have someone over at your house that likes to game, then get the Wii.

Though purchasing the Wii right now wouldn't be in your best interest since the library isn't big enough yet, and there has yet to be a game that truly takes advantage of the innovative controller. There's only one game that is worth full price (Zelda: TP), and even that doesn't warrant a MUST-BUY for the Wii. Wii Sports, Rayman, and Monkey Ball are definitely fun, but their charm can only last so long. The Wii has potential, but it needs more time to grow.

So if I were in your shoes, I'd wait for the remodeled 360. If you can't wait use the $40 coupon at CC, or buy it at Costco then return it when Microsoft releases the new model. Your ultimate goal is to get a Wii60 though.

When does the new 360 come out? I heard it isn't coming out for a while.

Also, I made this post in the $40 off $199 thread, can anybody answer my question?

Has anybody had success using multiple coupons--including a circuit city coupon--at best buy?

There's a new 12% rewards coupon and if I can get get that to stack with the $40 off $199 CC coupon to buy a 360, that would be a dopeass deal.

Think it'll work?

I've always had really cool cashiers who were young and never gave a shit about giving me discounts, even on items that were excluded on the coupon.

I'll give it a try on the 19th when the rewards coupon starts working.

When does the new 360 come out? I heard it isn't coming out for a while.

A new 360 hasn't even been announced yet. I've seen 2 sets of rumors, one was killed at CES. The other rumored XBox is not gonna have gaming enhancements per se, it's more like Media Center enhancements.

If you'll use the XBox 360 for gaming, don't wait. If you're trying to use it as a DVD player, or for IPTV (the rumored capability for the new model), or something like that, then maybe you wait a bit longer.

(I had the same questions as you, 360 vs Wii -- bought a 360 this past Sunday. I don't think I'll regret it, even having a family that likes to play games.)

Hey that's where I found my 360 last January. I'll never forget it. I sped down there from La Mesa. There were 2 left when I got there. As I was buying it, multiple people came in looking for one, but they were too late.

sonicbooom
01-19-2007, 05:20 PM
I didn't get to use the $40 off $199 at Best Buy, but I was so damn close.

I bought:

-360 Premium ($399.99 value)
-Free Madden 07 game ($50 value)
-Free Madden 07 guide ($10 value)
-Gears of War (usually $60 value)
-Free coupon book ($90 savings value)
-Free 8 issues for a magazine subscription (my girl chose some entertainment magazine and she said a year sub is $75)

They took the BB Rewards Zone 12% off coupon (They weren't supposed to because videogame hardware is excluded) and the cashier was ABOUT to apply the $40 off $199, but the farking cashier next to her said that they don't use Circuit City coupons because they "aren't Circuit City" (which wasn't the point--she said they accept competitor coupons). I was able to use the $10 off a $49.99 videogame coupon on Gears of War to drop it to $39.99.

So I walked out of the store and spent $422.36. Total retail would have been at around $560, so I saved about $140--and that doesn't include how much I saved on the free magazine subscription. This is one of the best deals I've came across.

Next week I'm going to buy the 360 HD-DVD player.

I know it's not an LCD, but Costco.com has a sweet 1080p 67" Samsung DLP w/ a stand for $2399 after coupons. I totally don't need another t.v., but it's tempting...

Any tips on getting a discount on a PS3 in SD? I'm going to try the Target 10% off w/ a new Target card and see if that works. I tried to trade in my PS2 to 2 different EB's tonight, but they were out of PS3's. EB's extended warranty ($70 for only 1 year) seemed pretty stiff. It almost ruins the whole point of trading in the PS2 for $100...

I just waited until Black Friday last year and I swooped up that 32" HDTV from Home Depot. I applied for the credit card so I got 10% off. It came out to like $469 after taxes I believe. I'm now the proud owner of a PS3. I can't believe Sony couldn't figure out a way to put vibration in the new controller. Shame on them! Other than that, I can't complain...except for the fact that Resistance is the only good game out there right now...

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection = PS3 game of the year 2006 lol.

Hey guys, this is sort of a random question but I'm currently looking into subscribing to one of the video game rental websites (Gamefly, Gameznflix, etc.). I haven't tried any myself yet, and I was wondering if any of you in the SD area has had any experience with any of them. Any insight would be great. Thanks in advance.

I haven't personally, but I have a friend in SD who used Gamefly. He was pretty satisfied, but had to cut it off when his job took too much of his time.

My sister and her husband have a gamefly subscription, too, had it for ~2 years. Never had a problem. They're not in SD, and they're not quick with game turnarounds, though, so I don't know if their speed would suit you.

I use both as of right now. I've been signed up for gamefly for about year now and is it an amazing service. They always have new releases right away and if you keep them in your queue they will send it right away. Turn around time can be weird sometimes. Ive sent games that take a day to get to them and then another day for me to get one from my queue but I've waited as long as 2 weeks for them to recieve one of my games. It's kind of strange but most of the time the turn around is fast. They also have this thing where once you're game is checked in by the post office, they will send you you're next game before the game you sent them even reaches their wherehouse which increases turn around time by A LOT. The customer service is spot on and very helpful. The only down side to the service is the price point. While still cheap for a no late fee rental service... gamznflix is still wayyyyy cheaper.

gameznflix feel very cheap and from what I hear the customer service sucks ass. i havn't had to deal with that yet. The site is kind of annoying to navigate and new releases may take up to two weeks to be in stock. Significantly cheaper but i guess you pay for what you get. I think I'm just going to stick with gamefly. I just gave gameznflix shot. Its cool but i don't mind paying a bit extra for the quality that gamefly puts into their work.

Customer service plays a big factor in any business, but it's just that the price difference between the two sites can't go unnoticed. But thanks for the insights though guys.

As for Gamefly, do they charge tax and do they charge you at the beginning of the month or at the end?

They charge you the day you sign up and then that same date every month and yes they charge tax.

i used Gamefly for about 6-8 months, and the service was okay. i just decided that the turnaround time wasn't worth the price, which i thought was fairly steep. i've now been using Gameznflix since the "big" thread, and i'm very impressed. the website layout and navigation is just left of horrible, but their selection is decent, and i've rented about 6 games so far (3 at a time), and the speed's been excellent; certainly faster than Gamefly. i only slightly miss the lack of GBA and DS rentals, but since i buy most portable games that i want anyway (since they're usually cheaper than console titles), it's not that bad. personally, i think that for the price, Gameznflix is fantastic. even if they ship half the speed of GF, which would be hard since GF was often quite slow, i'm still getting 3 games for a little over half the price of the 2-game plan at GF.

the way i see it, the price quite literally cannot be beat, and if they suck, just dump 'em! that's my plan, anyway. good luck in whatever you choose.

Game Crazy News: Aero Drive (aka Murphy Canyon Road) and National City are the only two Game Crazy stores selling New GBA games in SD. So if you're looking for all the 9.99 new GBA games, hit those stores up. They should both be getting big transfers in as well... soon.

Now: Anyone know if most of the BKs in town are still selling their 360 games? I was at the Clairemont Mesa BK (by the 163) this morning, and all they had was Big Bumpin'... anyone know for sure where the other two games are?
I have a thing for Latin girls :)

You guys ever been at www.yelp.com? (http://www.yelp.com?) They have reviews for different places. I only looked at restaurants so I don't know what else they have.

I was looking at reviews of Chinese restaurants (already decided on going to Mandarin Garden in Mira Mesa for Valentines day--my family's been going there for the past 13 years) and I stumbled upon all the Mexican restaurants.

If you're bored, check out the reviews at your favorite restaurants and there is a lot of good info here if you want to try out new spots.

Too bad National City's sales tax is like 1% higher than elsewhere in the county.

Hi all. I was wondering whats the sales tax now? Havent been home in a while so is it over 7.75% now? or does the rest of the county have a lower tax?

Iron Clad Burrito

It's 8.75 in National City, 8.25 in El Cajon, and 7.75 everywhere else in San Diego county.

(Where I'm from in Tennessee it's 9.75%. I like it here better.)

Just a heads up. As of about 7:00PM on 2/20/07 The Eastlake Target had 7-9 Wii's in stock (And 2 60GB PS3's but its harder to find a place that doesn't have PS3's). If you've been looking for one, I suggest you go now!

picked up Crackdown from the National City Circuit City. they had plenty of copies in stock as of 2:00pm today, as well as Halo faceplates (free w/purchase), if anyone is interested. it's a great (albeit shallow) game.
