Was the store really crammed? That's good because the overhead for a store like that must be huge. Sounds to me like all the good stuff was nearly cleaned out.

I went and saw these items of interest in the periodical section:
Some Japanese Gundam hobby magazine that came with a model kit, (it wasn't a Gundam though it was a spaceship) for $5

An old issue of some DS magazine with a guide that had all the maps for New Super MArio Brothers, for $1

And soundtracks for all the Final Fantasies (they were all priced like normal import stores though :( )

Anyone here been to Fresh & Easy? That store is just awesome. The prices on food is really cheap. And they usually give you a coupon after a purchase for $5 off $20 (exclude dairy and alcohol) which makes the prices even cheaper. It's self checkout and the only employees I think they have are re-stockers, sample distributors and a manager. A lot of their food is manufactured by them as well, maybe to cut out the middle man and further reduce prices. No membership required as well. I'd highly recommend the store if you don't mind bagging/checking out the groceries yourself and saving a pretty penny.

Also went to Book Off the other day. Pretty much walked out empty handed, couldn't really find anything of interest (i guess mine are too specific). But their prices on the JMedia is probably the best you can get B&M. I guess I'm not as wapanese (http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Wapanese) as I used to be.

Also a tip if you didnt know yet, at the bottom of each aisle theres a drawer with more items being stored there because the shelves are too packed.
especially in the CD and photobook aisle.

I did a little research and it turns out the library had about 20 PS2, 360, Wii and PS3 games for check out. I had no idea that our libraries had games! It had cool stuff too such as, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime Corruption, Halo 3, Ghost Recon 2, Need for Speed ProStreet, BioShock, Heavenly Sword, etc. I was truly impressed. I went to the one on balboa on the second day the sale was on.
i only got condemned 2 tho but the other games should ring up at the sale price too, because the guys there didnt even know that the sale was on until they scanned it.
Just ask if theres any in stock and go there and have them scan it in front of you.
Because over the phone they will just tell you the price of it by the sticker if they still dont know about the sale.

I finally got to try it out on both Ghost Squad and House of the Dead 2 & 3: The Return with a friend and they are AWESOME!!! The only downside would probably be that there's a chance your trigger can get squeaky, but that can easily be fixed with some WD-40.

UPDATE: Convoy Target has a shit load of games on clearance, and half of them aren't bad at all. I saw a lot of copies of PGR4 (for 15), Lair and Orange Box for $30, and Simpsons for $35. They are all in the electronics section.

I was at Fry's today and finally picked up Lair for $30. While I was there, I was checking out Wii games. You've all seen those really bad games like Gingerbread Ninja or whatever. However, I saw the worst one ever today...so bad that it looked like a joke. It was called "Rig Racer" and appeared to be some sort of semi-truck racing game. Sure, I have no problem with semi-truck racing games, but "Rig Racer?" Come on!

My downloads have been fine. They've been particularly fast lately. Are you using wireless or wired? What's your regular download speed for your computer? Maybe try speedtest.net or speakeasy.com with your PS3 browser and see what your speeds are. I use Cox and I've had no problems.

I'm going wired now...wireless with gaming and wired with DLing...it seems a WHOLE lot faster with wired.

i did the same thing. i just bought Assassin's Creed and COD4 and then said to myself, "when the heck am i gonna play these?!"... i'm anticipating GTA4 to be a massive time-sink for me for at least 2 or 3 weeks.

ha! same here. but even if i had both, i'd go for 360. i like the controller way more. the PSx controllers equal hand cramps and discomfort for me. too many sharp angles, and the stalks are too small (and no, i don't have large hands).

I have both systems and I'm probably going to get the PS3 version. I like the controller better and have heard the PS3 version is a tad better looking. I'm a little concerned about downloadable content vs. the 360 version. However, the new PlayStation Store is looking pretty good...especially since it's free...

By the way, Wii Mario Kart is great!

that's weird; after having watched that video you just posted, i was almost leaning towards the opposite conclusion. even so, i don't think anyone can argue that both versions will be great.

being the recluse i am, i never play online with you other SD CAGs anyway. :lol:

i try not to go into that store, the manager never shuts up. atleast the girl at the one that got robbed is cute, and theyre actually helpful in more ways than trying to sell me preorders.

my wife and i really like Knott's. it's very laid back; a slower pace than Disneyland, Magic Mountain, etc... there's rides, and they're pretty fun, but there's also a lot to look at, weird shops and shows. i recommend it.

don't forget though, if they're going to any SoCal outdoor attractions this weekend it's supposed to be hotter than a son of a gun, so pack sun block and be prepared to drink a lot of water!

universal studios is a great place to go. if u think theyll enjoy stuff from famous movies its a great place to go. knotts is more for rides.

Universal Studios is probably a good choice, but seriously, the rides at Knott's were mostly designed for kids. there aren't many big "thrillers" to be found. unless when you say "7-15" you mean "nine 7-year-olds and one 15-year-old", i'm certain there'd be plenty there for them to enjoy -- heck, even if that were the ratio. i teased my wife for not going on any of the rides with me, since most of the riders were children.

Sadly, no. There is still Gamedude in North Hollywood and a few small import shops on the West Side and in downtown, but nothing like there used to be in the late 90s. I like Games 4 Less in Fullerton if you pass through there, just off Harbor on the 91 Freeway, which is a couple of miles off the 5 Freeway.

You definately want to check out "Games for Less" in the Anahiem area. It's the independent game store and they have a lot of retro to current gen games as well. I thought it was great. It's like girls finding a handbag mecca except it's just video games.

don't forget the movies; dark and AC-equipped -- you can't go wrong there. mini golf is always killer. also, while i personally hate malls, that could be an alternative. gather up some friends and have a picnic at a nearby park. i always thought that sounded kinda dumb when i was younger, but they're pretty fun, and a decent waste of time. plus, there's food.

if you can drive, you can go camping locally too. if you've never done it, trust me -- just hanging out in the woods under a tree with friends is a lot more fun than it sounds. my friends and i used to have a blast piling up one of our cars with teenagers and tents and junk food. doesn't even cost much.

my wife and i just bought a second set of tower fans from Costco. they're only 50 bucks and they're great. you get one really tall one that's good for a large room, and one short fan that's better for setting on a desk, countertop, or nightstand (that's where i keep one of mine). they take up no real space to speak of, and the tall one has a timer setting, multiple types of flow and uses a remote, which of course is great for adjusting the fan without having to get off the couch.

tell your parents to buy it and you take the small one. ;)

Well, just played Brawl last night with a couple of buddies. Brawl looked really nice, however after a couple games, we just popped in Melee. I don't know, Brawl looks great and all, but it just doesn't have that lasting affect that Melee had for me. Looks like I talked myself out of it as well.

i actually like brawl more than melee...esp the single player campaign that is fun to go through and makes me use characters i really don't have any affinity for.

Brawl isn't bad per se, but those veterans of Melee usually favor the older version. At least when I played with people locally.

It's all really preference. But changing between the two, I easily got exhausted (literally) playing Melee considering how slow Brawl is compared to it. Of course, there's nothing wrong with a speed reduction. I would also agree that the characters seem a little more balanced in the latest addition.

I entered the Mission Valley Best Buy to see a guy carrying out the MGS4 bundle. He opened his trunk, and I saw 2 more. I'm guessing he's gonna try to flip it on ebay/cl, but when I got inside, I thought "nope, not gonna work." The cage was full of them. They restocked overnight.

I am also likely to be the one who will kill the 24 deal at the Chula Vista store. Apologies to those who come after me.

1) go near sea world
2) go to PB area near the pier
3) go sit at the top of the hill driving down into qualcomm stadium.

if u wanna have it at the beach..
1) go at 3am the night before and camp out
2) be ready for extreme crowds

They also give you a coupon sheet for free rentals with any purchase of a new system (though most of the coupons are most likely expired). Haven't checked out their prices lately, though they have decent prices for their used games and old generation ones. I'd usually wait for a sale on those.

When there was a Gamecrazy in East-805 Chula Vista, there was a bitch employee that a lot of SD CAGs griped about. Not sure what happened to her. However there are some good Gamecrazy employees. The one in National City helped me out a ton. But at the time, he seemed understaffed and was attending to 10 customers and answering the phone all by himself.

i just picked up a Neo Geo AES recently, so i've been rocking out on some Baseballs Stars 2 and some game called Robo Army. i also just picked up an X-Arcade Two Player, so i'm going back and playing some classic shooters on my Playstation and PC. (Strikers 1945, anyone? aw yeah!)

i'm also a few hours into Eternal Sonata, and in somewhat related news, my wife is finally playing some games! she's been addicted to Civilization: Revolution for weeks now, and i'm torn between liking that she's finally gotten into some console gaming, and wanting the big TV back! my ES sessions are relegated to the bedroom setup lately, and it's just not the same.

as far as new stuff, nothing has really caught my eye. i got in on some of the TRU clearance titles, but of course they've been bumped off into my backlog. i am beyond pumped for Fallout 3 though. as long as Bethesda doesn't do something collossally stupid with it, i'm certain that's going to be my massive time-sink of '08.

There were some at the Eastlake Walmart, I can't remember the price but they were definitely in the clearance area. There were some pink ones and some were of Halo-themed variety. Don't know if that makes or breaks the deal for you lol.

Awesome to hear from you guys. Allyourblood, I feel for you with regard to the wife taking over the "good" t.v. Sometimes I feel like I need my own HDTV w/ my own system. Fortunately, nothing has come out lately that has piqued my wife's interest. Back in the day, we would fight over the xbox just to play KOTOR. We've basically been playing Rock Band. It's like pulling teeth to get her to play Soul Calibur.

Congrats on the Neo Geo. I remember the good ol' days when that system was amazing. I was actually seriously considering saving up $500 to buy that thing. I would have done it but the games were $180 to $200 back then.

As to the GCN, it was a great system with some fantastic games. I feel like it never got the attention it deserved. I guess the Wii is making up for that...
