Yes and No. The tags are present on some MP3s while its absent on others. If you use primarily P2P networks to acquire your songs (I know you purchased the CDs but just threw them away), its a hit and miss. It depends on the original owner of the file. If they included it on the file, it'll be present when you get it. Just add all of your files to iTunes and see which ones have it.

yes, half my collection is stolen. ;-) the other half I downloaded anyway because I can DL songs faster than my burner can rip them

I suggest neatly organizing your music files in your My Music folder by artist. Then you can use a program like Winamp to search through your music folder, add to the library, and edit which music files are missing information.

Since I have an iPod, Im pretty familiar with iTunes. iTunes does a decent job at naming a large number of files (Like 100 songs by the same artist). However, it won't name them by itself.

Use Tag & Rename.

I suggest MusicBrainz which will tag your music with well-kept databases including CDDB if you want.

But, I'd not use tags instead and I certainly wouldn't put them in your "My Anything" folder unless you mapped the directory to another partition.
