I'm a student intern at a large company, I have classes at night, and a girlfriend that I only see in the summer...Basically, that means I don't have much time to play games right now, but I was hoping I could get some recommendations on NES games I could find easily, pick up cheaply, and beat without too much difficulty (cuz I don't have but an hour here or there to play at a time)...

Thanks for the help.

Seriously though...Super Mario bros is a classic and can be had for 29 cents at gamestop. Can't beat that.

Excitebike is a blast, and you can create custom tracks which ups its replay value a bit.

I get a lot of play out Dr. Mario, Contra, Castlevania, and Master Blaster too.

You mean Blaster Master? Yeah, good game.

As for games, you might want to look for Yoshi's Cookies or something like that. I forget what kind of game it is, but I remember having a lot of fun. When it was taken away, I cried. The end.

River City Ransom. Though it is coming out for GBA pretty soon, it ought to be in every NES library.

What's better? Name something, but keep in mind if I don't agree then I'll be standing over your bed in the morning ready to choke you into unconsciousness.

OoT...The Original Zelda...Hey You Pikachu (j/k)...The first Super Mario...Final Fantasy 1...Super Mario three only expanded what was already there, so therefor IMO its not the greatest...For something to be THE GREATEST it has to be a) a new idea b) innovative c) fun d) redifine gaming e) it has to bring people together to enjoy a so called "genre" or develop a genre all its own...

My all time fav NES game is Bionic Commando. I must have beaten that game 10 times and it was the first nintendo game I played with a curse word. Also, Super Spike V Ball is awesome. A longer game is Crystalis. It's like Zelda, but with a bigger character and a lot better looking.

New Idea? It gave Mario different powers. I don't think that was done before.

Fun? Are you telling me and the millions of my fans that Super Mario 3 isn't fun?

Redefine gaming? I'm not sure I follow but it did have pretty deep levels and massive replay ability.

Bring people together to enjoy a genre? What if people were already there? You mean for a game to be greatest it has to create a new genre?

I'd consider all of the different powerups (tail, fireballs, frog suit, Hammer Brother suit) a new idea for a platformer. Same goes for the ability to store items and use them between levels. And lest I forget, how about the ability to choose what level you go into? I don't think any other platformers at the time had made use of a map screen. This could all be wrong...but it seems like it meets some of your "requirements."

Looking at the games on your list, OoT doesn't really seem to meet your guidelines. For all that it had, it really didn't seem to be innovative - sure, it had pretty graphics and nice controls. How are those innovative, though? If SMB3 isn't an option, OoT shouldn't be either.

SMB 3 is the best Mario game ever and one of the best games ever (Super Metroid is my favorite game of all time)

back on topic. I can not believe even I failed to mention Startropics and Startropics II :Zoda's Revenge
