Ow my head. Consider using a spell checker in the future please.
Anyway, that video card is really unfit for gaming. You will not be able to run anything recent at decent framerates. Look for something along the lines of a 6600GT, it is a midrange card and should be around $150ish. Trust me, if you go with the X300 SE you will regret it. And also if you are hell bent on the X300SE get one that is not SE. I am unsure of what "SE" stands for but the joke is that it stands for "Slow Edition", which it is.
Motherboard wise look for anything that meets your standards and make sure that the manufacturer is reputable. One you find a motherboard look around and see what people are saying. The reviews on Newegg should help alot.
Do not forget about that hard drives and power supply. And do not forget the floppy drive. I do not care what anyone says, every computer I build will have a floppy drive. I hate burning CD and then just not having a use for them.

The Athlon 64 3000+ might not be adequate for gaming purposes. As for the video card, unless you have mucho money, the best card value wise is teh Nvidia Geforce 6600GT. I got it for $100 shipped after rebate and I can run FEAR at max resolution. Call of Duty is a breeze. I really hope you didn't purchase it yet.

Floppies aren't necessary when you can buy a cheap thumbdrive or burn a rewritable disc, I do understand why many people like to have them around, it just isn't necessary for most (I use an external between the several machines in my house).
I wouldn't fret if you already got the 3000, it should handle it well enough. My brother has a 2800 and HL2 looks pretty enough.

Not all mobos can boot from a thumbdrive, and it may be necessary to boot from a floppy at some point in time.

One thing about floppies : they always work. I have had every computer component mess up in some way shape or form but never the floppy drive.

Floppy drives can go to shit just like anything else. I had one kill itself off a few years back. They're also extraordinarily finnicky, ornery and unreliable. However, in some cases they're a necessary evil, for no other reason than boot sectors on CDs being hard to make.

That's true, but it seems to me that most/all the newer boards are supporting it. I was just thinking it would be more useful to pick up a cheap 128MB flash drive for the same price as a floppy drive and a pack of floppies and you'd be able to use things like DSL and puppy linux and recovery tools that require a bit more room.
I prefer Motherbored Warlocks.

You NEED a floppy drive to install windows XP on raid/SCSI. I wouldn't build a system with out a floppy drive. Sure, they get used about one time a year, but they're fucking invaluable when you do use them.

My mobo is only a year old and has no support for USB drives. I haven't asked a lot of people, but I'm assuming the support isn't too high as of yet.

Hasn't this happened before? With a chocolate ice cream joke, or something?

Beats me, but I feel the need to 1-up! Motherbored Warlocks are fruits! We need fatherbored Warlocks.
As for the OP, just buy a name brand motherboard that comes with all the fixins you want. Do you really need on-board audio? Do you need 17 SATA ports and support for 12 different varieties of RAID? Do you want to pay the extra $5 for spiny LED support?
Just look at some ASUS, Abit, Gigabyte and Chaintech boards, and pick one out that comes with whatever you want. As for chipsets, I think Nforces are superior, but VIA chipsets are more bargainy.

I'm bored with this board discussion. It was more fun in the shop where I bored holes in a bored boar's board.
