b is 54 mbs and g 108 mbs...so its double the speed...but if your not running from very far away or your not running multiple things at once you wont see much of a dif.

While I'm no expert, a G is 54 mps and a B is like 11 mps, while there are G routers that can dish out up to 108 mps, this adaptor can only receive 54 mps

Wrong. b is 11 mbps and g is 54 mbps. You will not notice the difference in speed unless you own a broadband service that gives you a 12mbps or higher connection. Most broadband services are around 1 mbps d/l / 300 kbps u/l. Though mine is 5 mbps d/l / 900 kbps u/l, which makes 802.11g overkill. All g is good for now is future-proofing.

oh...sorry about that...mine does 108...still almost no ones connection can get higher than 10 so you dont really use all of your "b" the only thing is "g" reaches farther than "b" and "a" goes even farther than "g" but thats a whole other ball game

Has anyone successfully used this router for both their PS2 and Xbox? I'm interested in this now... but only if I can use it for both. It should be a straight wireless adapter (meaning it should work with anything, not just an xbox) right? I've got a Linksys G router and everything wireless so far connects with ease... but does the ps2 connect with ease to the microsoft brand adapter?

And has anyone tried connectin the xbox and ps2 into a small hub that goes into the adapter - so you don't have to swap cables when you want to use the other system? Figure that would work as long as one machine is on at a time yes? No? Maybe so?

btw, -G lets computer on a LAN talk as fast as possible, which is faster than -B

Something else people tend to overlook...wireless is half duplex. You need to cut any rated speed in half just to get the theoretical max. With 802.11g (barring any vendor specific speed boosting stuff), that gives you 27mbps. If you're sharing that amongst multiple machines, you have to divide the figure even further. With network collisions and retransmits, your wireless bandwith can get eaten up very quickly.

If you're sharing files or what not, 802.11b kind of blows. It's not worth the cost savings.

You might get the full 54 for internal traffic...but you aint getting 54 across XBox Live because there is no way you're internet is hitting speeds of 54.

802.11a has the least amount of range. B and G have the same range. When you get to the max range of g your stuck at 11mbps.

B and g have more range cause they run at 2.4 ghz. A runs at 4ghz. Think of this like radio. Am goes real far away but its a much lower frequency but FM goes real short distances at a much higher frequency.

All of these are FULL DUPLEX i don't know where you heard they were half but its full duplex.

Another fun note. If you use ANY 802.11b devices in a 802.11g network everything gets knocked down to 11mbps . So keep those neighbors out

I remember checking my xbl settings on my menu and my connection was considered excellent and the speed said 54 mps, perhaps it only transmits 10, I'll double check when get home to make sure I'm not crazy

That's the speed at which its transmiting not the speed of your broadband connection. Go to DSLreports.com and do a speed test for one of your comps. That number you get is your actual broadband speed.
