The issue is going on sale the 17th. I managed to receive a copy of the disc early but it wouldn't let me register this soon. Oh well, I'll wait.

I've heard bad reviews of the beta, though I can't remember where from. Ill see if I can find the link

bad reviews, huh? Interesting, b/c I figured it's just FFXI again.
Now, if I can only find an import copy of the beta, and I'll surely pick up this mag in a few weeks.

Someone from IGN.com had an article describing how bad and tedious it was.
Shit, this makes me want to renew my subscription since I could get a couple of issues for the same price as buying one in a store.

i'd rather have a port of XII (or a sequel to Tobal? ha!), but i'll give it a swing.

It's no better and no worse than the PC version of FFXI. If you expect some stellar Next Gen Gaming prepare to be dissapointed. Bottom line? FFXI is a big time waster.
I might pick up this beta to fiddle around for fun tho, might be fun to just mess around with the beta and get my warrior to level 10 hah, hell it's free right?
The game gets more tedious later on.

The beta does sound fun, the economy in the game is so messed up right now it's not worth playing imo. But with a beta server and fresh economy it might be fun for the one or two months or whatever that the beta is.

I've never heard so many complaints over a free game, lol. I have no intention of buying this game when it comes out, but I'm going to have a great time on the beta.

the bad reviews coming out about FFXI Beta is pretty much just the fact that Square didn't do any updates to the game and its just a port of the PC version. Pretty much all the idiots reviewing it thought Square was going to do this massive update to the game even thou Square said time and time again it was just going to be a direct port with nothing new added or changed.

Since you're going to be able to play with PC and PS2 users (in the retail version), Squeenix could hardly have made changes to the content for Xboxers.

Has Square even updated this game at all in the last year or two?
I've never heard of additional expansions or anything like that being added... it's like they just kind of gave up after EQ 2, World of Warcraft, and Guild Wars stormed the scene.

There is a new expansion in the making. Treasures of Aht Urhgan. Can't say I know much about it, because the worst part about FFXI updates is that you'll only see or experience much of the additions if you're heavily invested in the game. Also, keep in mind that there have been, with Aht Urhgan, three expansion packs. The main difference being that the American release took so goddamned long because of Sony's wavering on the HDD (which, ironically, is what limited it's implementation in software  ), by the time FFXI was released in the states, Japan had the game for two years, and the first expansion (Rise of the Zilart) for several months or more.

if its just a direct port why is it taking them forever to release it? i hear release day is may or june... imo if you really want it just play it on your pc and save ur self 40bucks or so. if you dont have a pc then just dont think about it too much. not worth 60bucks plush 15 a month or so fee.

Pimp - it could be possible to set up a private chat while we play the game, so in theory, we won't have to use a keyboard. This would only work if you were playing with one other person though.

Welcome to the world of FFXI where updates come slow =p. I guess this is taking awhile because there is no equivalent out. The 360 uses an IBM Power PC processor. In Computing terms you can relate that to the equivalent of porting over a PC game to Mac which is not always that simple or fast. And especially with an ongoing MMO you're bound to encounter some bugs, hence the beta period.

any word on any other 360 demo's on there? Maybe ones that are worth playing, no offense.

Not too sure but more people are getting excited ( not that kind of excited ) about the FF11 demo only because its a MMORPG is which you won't have to pay for. Usually its like 12.95 a month. Free is the only reason Ill give it a try.

FFXI is the only thing on the demo disc.

My boy Trakan got his new EGM today. In the issue, Square-Enix has said that the BETA will in fact SUPPORT VOICE CHAT. Square-Enix goes on to say that the retail version, might not.

what ever happend to their website http://www.officialxboxmagazine.com/ it hasnt been updated in months. Usually they tell you what will be on the next mag including demos. I sure hope FFIX is not the only demo for Feb.

It's a full game with 3 updates included. I think that's fine for a demo disc. I can't believe there is complaining.

It's just that I'm not an FF fan. A DOA4, Frame City Killer, Top Spin, College Hoops demo or any recent game that is coming out would have been a great addition.

Voice Chat can always be supported with every 360 Game virtually I think actually. You just have to create a room from the X Button dash and invite the people in your party. It's something to do while partying I guess and they're gonna really need it. I mean Damn FFXI requires decent communication and a whole lot of patience.

I'm pretty sure you can only invite one other person into a private chat for a total of 2 people. (I'm aware you can have 4 different private chats, but each still equals 2 people.)

you can get 2 free demo disk sent out to ya per year through this site

if you are willing to wait 3-6 weeks
mostlikely beta will only last like a month at most so its probably smart to just spend 10bucks on a mag if you really want to play ff11, from what i read its a pain in the ass to start ff11, first you have to have gold live, then you have to join square enix site i beive its called playonline or somecrap... then you run long ass patch and yay finaly you get to play ff11.
