View Full Version : I Didn't Think It Was Possible: COD 2 Online Gets Worse

There have been numerous threads about this topic and anyone that owns this game that has tried to play it online knows all about the horrible lag and lack of gaming options or the ability to form parties, host games etc.
However having tried to play this game the past 2-3 days "Unable to Connect to Server" has become the new bane of this game. After that it kicks you out to the multiplayer menu and you need to cycle through 4 more screens and again... "Unable to Connect to Server" comes up again. I've done this 10 times in a row sometimes without connecting to a game.
Then, the problems we all know about kick in.
This game was nearly unplayable before on Live as it is. Now, for online purposes, this game disc might as well be a coaster.
I have to state again; Activision and Microsoft, get your shit together. With an attach rate of 75%+ too many people, like myself, are going to think the 360 is a step backwards for online game play. Fortunately I still own PDO and PGR 3 and know this is a game specific problem but how many people other than myself already own 8 360 games?

I own the game and haven't tried it online. All I hear is terrible things.

I like the Multiplayer for that sick post-mortem death camera, other than that it is rather mediocre. Perhaps if they could get more people in a room, with bigger arenas it might be better.

I don't have Live for my 360, and Call of Duty is still definitely pretty kickass. You don't really need it.

Reason #4567 why I don't do XBOX Live.

You do realize of course that this is probably the first XBL game to ever have problems this severe.
The service itself is fantastic and greatly enhances gameplay and replay value. It's just that this title, more than any other, seems to have received the bums rush through development and approval. I cannot believe this game went through the Microsoft certification process with online being the mess it is.

I have it have been playing it and love it. Yeah I get kicked out here and there while searching for games, but that happens in Perfect Dark Zero as well (dont hear people complain about it though) and not every game has the lag issue. We all know this game needs a patch badly but when you get a lag-free game its awesome.

Yeah, i bought this game pretty much exclusively for the online and it is just a joke. I couldn't care less about the single player for shooters, the online is infinitely more important. Take Halo 2 for example, I beat the single player in a few hours and never touched it again but i still play Halo 2 online to this day.

I guess you've never played Star Wars: Battlefront on Xbox Live before the updates were available (which was months after the game was already released). Connecting to games was a hassle since you'll end up getting a connection time out error, and once you do get into the game, the game lags. There's also a false sense of lag due to the icon that displays lost of connection.

No, Wrestlemania for the XBox was even worst for Live. You couldn't connect to Live. PERIOD! I know the game sucked, but that's besides the point.
Anyways I hope they get Call of Duty 2 fixed in the next few months. I'm already Haloed out and I'm hoping to do a good FPS over Live. I guess Quake and PD0 are the only options right now till some new games come out in March.

Plays good for me. I never get the Not able to connect thing. About %50 of the games are laggy so I usually quit out of them. When you get a non lagggy game it could be one of the best live games out there. I like it. Maybe you just have a weak connection?

It's not my connection. I'm running 3.0/768 DSL. I can host 16 players on PDZ with zero lag. I can host 8 on COD 2 with zero lag and all gamers under 120 on the ping measure. It's definitely not my connection.

Yes, yes, a blessing in disguise. So, is the CoD problem related to a console or server-side update that anyone is aware of, or is the game spontaneously sucking that much more?

I have it, tried online yesterday and myself, and my brother got the same messages. Not happy, as the single player so far has been great

I don't know what you're talking about, PC gamers are so pissed about the awful multiplayer that they organized a pretty significant server shutdown as a result of the publisher not giving any info on if/when stuff would be fixed. I didn't know it was also this bad on XBL until now, though.

Same with me. Verizon DSL right? Just keep tring. Sure it is very frustrating but when you get in a game it is very cool.

I played one match, and it had more lag than any game of Halo 2. Atleast campaign is stellar.

I played a 8 man match today. Worse lag in a game ever. Once 5 people dropped, all the lag was gone and the game was great. Is it possible for them to patch this game?

There should be some kind of patch for it soon. And if it can't be fixed people need new connections.
