" The disc scratching problem is evidently widespread enough that GameFly has prepared a 'form letter' to send to all consumers who return Xbox 360 discs with defects on them, commenting:

"We have received reports that certain XBOX 360 consoles have caused damage to GameFly videogames. Unfortunately, we have been notified that you recently returned a damaged XBOX 360 game.

As a precaution, we have removed all XBOX 360 games from your GameQ. Please contact Microsoft at 1-800-4MY-XBOX. Please do not rent XBOX 360 games until you have resolved this issue.

In the future, should GameFly receive XBOX 360 games from you that have been damaged, you will be charged a replacement fee.""

no, the last thing you need is an idiot trying to turn the xbox 360 from horizontal to vertical or vice versa when the system is on.

Thats not entirely true.

Once they've received a damaged 360 disc from you, they send you that letter. They won't send you anymore 360 games until you have the issue resolved. And, they won't charge you for the first disc that you damage. After you get the letter, if you choose to ignore their warning and rent more 360 games anyway, then they will start charging you for damaged discs.

I find it perfectly reasonable. The first one you damage is free, they warn you very clearly, and they don't rent you another 360 game until you tell them you've addressed the issue.

I also like this move because it pressures MS into acknowledging the problem, and doing something about it.
