from gamefaqs(edited for clarity):
1. First get an ethernet CROSSOVER cable (it's different from a regular ethernet cable. ask for it by name.)
2. If you are running Windows XP go to My Computer then my network places.
3. Then go to view network connections
4. Then right click your wireless connection and go to properties.
5. Go to the Advanced tab, click "allow other things to share this interent connection."
6. Connect your computer to the 360 with the crossover cable. restart computer.
7. Turn on 360 and run your setups for LIVE.
I haven't tried this myself, so don't shoot the messenger! this will come in handy at some point.
edit: (from a post below)-- but check it out-- I see it being useful like this-- say you've got a wireless set up at your house, and the router is upstairs and your 360 is downstairs and the only thing you can do is get the $100 wireless adapter to make it work. but say you have a laptop or another pc in the same room as the 360 that has a wireless card and is hooked up to the network. well, instead of buying the $100 adapter, you can just get the $20 cable and be sorda wireless. hope that makes sense.
also, say you are at a hotel or in an apartment and you've got a laptop with a wireless card, a 360, a craving for live and someone's got an unprotected signal close by-- well, there you go. ;-)

This post had nothing to do with my home setup but I'm gonna go ahead and bump it up so some one can try it and report back.

That doesn't make any sense at all. I guess I might be too tired to understand it.

I'm trying to figure out how it's wireless if you have to run a cable from your PC to your Xbox 360 :-k

It's wireless, except, it's got wires!! :D

You'll wire the 360 to your wireless comp and then BOOM, wireless 360. I think it works in the theory that your computer is next to your 360.
Wait
I think I'm tired to because that don't make any sense.

I think he is saying to enable sharing (in XP) if you already have a wireless adaptor for a pc instead on buying a seperate wireless adaptor for the 360. However, I thought this was common knowledge for most people using XP.
As a side note, when you want to use your 360 online, your pc must be powered on. Also, you must have at least two ethernet ports on your pc.

Cool, a wireless setup with wires.

hes talking about getting the internet connection through your computer, whether it be wireless or wired it doesnt matter. So basically this is retarded unless your have a computer right near by your xbox, such as those who run their xbox through their monitor

interesting...this might be do-able

It is. Microsoft even had an entire section on Xbox.com dedicated to hooking up your original Xbox this way to get it on Live.
I've had my PC/game systems set up using ICS for years. This is a pointless thread.

Ok, so would this work:
I have a comp downstairs, and a laptop I keep in my room, and that upstairs room is where I plan on putting my 360(once I find one that is >_<). So, My comp downstairs has a wireless router, which I pick up the connection from my laptop upstairs. I could then run a crossover cable from my laptop to my 360? Or no?

okay, yeah, it was late last night when I posted this and it sounded more interesting then. Also, I had no idea this was common knowledge...so delete if necessary.
but check it out-- I see it being useful like this-- say you've got a wireless set up at your house, and the router is upstairs and your 360 is downstairs and the only thing you can do is get the $100 wireless adapter to make it work. but say you have a laptop or another pc in the same room as the 360 that has a wireless card and is hooked up to the network. well, instead of buying the $100 adapter, you can just get the $20 cable and be sorda wireless. hope that makes sense.
i dunno, maybe there's an easier, cheaper option.

So, has anyone tried this? I don't wanna go waste money on a cable.

basically you are using you laptop (which has a wireless card and rides you wireless network) in place of the Xbox gaming adapter. Just set your powered on laptop next/on top/nearby the 360, get the crossover cable (http://www.trianglecables.com/10footcat5en1.html) (shorter cables should be cheaper) and your ready to use your laptop's wireless connection via your new cable (which is connected to ethernet ports on 360 and laptop).
If your concerned about the wire, this setup would make it easy to hide...almost wireless.

yep and it worked nicely.
I recommend getting the Xbox System link cable-- it's a corssover and it's pretty cheap. $15 new, about $5 used at EB. Crossovers at BB are about $23 and up

I independently discovered this just this week.
It worked fine for a while, but now for some reason, when my laptop is "connected" it is unable to receive packets....haven't figured out why yet.
btw, you only need one ethernet jack on computer, provided it has a wireless card. also the ethernet cable i use to connect it to the xbox came with my premium

So would I have to edit any setttings, or would it be plug-n-play?
Edit: Besides enabling ICS?
In order for this to work, one would assume you already have a wireless router and a PC/laptop with a wireless adapter. With this criteria there is a simpler solution:
Your TV is plugged into the cable jack, so, relocate the cable modem and wireless router behind your TV (or in an entertainment center). Wire your 360 (and your xbox) directly to the router. Your PC/laptop is already wireless so use it. No unsitely wires running across your floor (except, of course, that plug and play kit you leave plugged in) and no need to purchase a crosslink cable. The only way this won't work is if you play live in multiple locations or you don't have cable (or phone jack if DSL) near your TV.
