View Full Version : Amped or Kameo?

Headed out to grab a game. I read that Kameo isn't too lengthy though I think that suits me as I won't have much time after this week. Is it worthy of a play-through though?

And for Amped, does it still have that style system from Amped 2? Where you have to slowly and smoothly perform the spins and grabs to get the most points? That made it damn near infuriating for me to play through the SP. Or is it more approachable now? Thanks.

Having beaten both, I can safely say Amped 3 is the much better buy. It's longer, has a better story (go figure, the snowboarding game), and yes, it's more approachable. I haven't played Amped 2, but I had a lot of fun with Amped 3's gameplay, and the Achievements you receive are also better than Kameo's, and add more replay value to the game.

I'm currently renting Kameo and its very fun... However, I am led to believe there is no replay value and should be only a rental. I never really did like the Amped series.

Kameo has a lot of replayability in the sense that there are a lot of unlockables that can only be achieved with upgraded elements that you get later in the game. So you can go back to the earlier levels and solve some of the puzzles you didn't have access to when starting out.

There is also a co-op mode, but currently it's restricted to two players on the same console. However, a Kameo tester said on Major Nelson's podcast that co-op over XBL will be coming soon.

I haven't played Amped 3, but I'm interested in picking it up as well.

Haven't played Amped cause I'm not into the snowboarding scene, but it seems to me like Kameo is to the 360 as Luigi's Mansion was to the GameCube. A game that shows off the power of the console.

Granted that I loved Luigi's Mansion (and curse everyone that hated it because of the length, making it that I'll probably never see a sequel), it just doesn't feel like a very in depth game. For example, I'm on the third level and it doesn't seem to flow together as a whole, the game is like get to puzzle, solve the puzzle, move to next puzzle, solve the puzzle, etc.

Even though I sound negative about it, it is a good game though, just know what your getting yourself into.

Having played both, I would pick up Amped 3. Kameo didn't interest me much at all. Amped 3 really is a fun game, lots of replay value, and the cutscenes are hilarious. Some of the challenges are pretty mundane though... slalom through hoops, collect this, etc. Beyond some of the challenges though, this really is an under-rated launch game IMO. Also, if the sale is still on, Amped 3 was $39.99 at Gamecrazy, so it costs less too.

I have a dozen 360 games, and Amped was the first one I played all the way through. I think I put about 10 hours into it or so. Tons of fun, great gameplay that anyone who digs Tony Hawk or other extreme sports games will have no problem with, and the story is original and hilarious. I disliked Amped 1, never played Amped 2, but I hear this is nothing like it. It may not look next-gen and it has virtually no multiplayer, but I recommend Amped 3 to just about anyone.

There's no Live play even if just to cruise down the mountain amongst other players?

There's no Live play.

I don't have a 360 yet, but I'd really like to get Amped 3 once I do. At one point, I was amped (pun intended) for Kameo... now I could really care less. It (Kameo) feels like one of those games that'll never last enough for you to finish. Amped 3, on the other hand, seems to be a very good pick-up-and-play title -- and the art direction looks incredible.

The absolute ONLY multiplayer is a handful of tethered sled crash missions that can only be done with a second controller. And leaderboards for most missions, if you count that.

I, like the OP, hated the style system from Amped 2. It made the already complicated controls from Amped 1 much more difficult. Amped 3 on the other hand, is waaaaay better in that regard. The controls have been simplified, it now plays much more like a Tony Hawk game. I've had a blast playing the game, and recommend it to anyone who enjoys snowboarding games.

Im almost through with Kameo, and its an alright game. At some points I am amazed by the graphics, and some of the stuff is fun, but im getting pretty bored with it. Its pretty much the same series of events that lead to the end. (Like Go to new town, explore town, go to "sub-level" and fight the same damn mini boss to unlock a new creature, use the new creature to beat that town's dungeon, go to overworld to kill some guys, off to next town, and repeat). That is the pattern I've been noticing anyways.

honestly Kameo is indeed a rental. I bought it because both my girlfriend and I needed to play through it each. But it really clocks in at around 8-10 hours. They should have had better content left over for after game. I can imagine dynasty warrior style levels with orcs in coop. that would have been so kickass....

Amped 3 is a decent game from what I hear. What appeals to me is that it's setting is northstar resort in tahoe where I go skiing every year :D

Does Kameo have co-op on the same console? Not sure whether it's over Live only.

Haven't played Amped 3, but I have played Kameo and strongly recommend it. If you played an entire weekend straight you would probably beat it, but if you stretch it over time it is a more enjoyable experience. For me it took me back to my days as a kid playing Mario on the NES and DK Country on my SNES. The look might be geared towards the younger audience, but there is definately enough to please the older gamer.

Haven't played Kameo yet (should be getting it this weekend) but I just got Amped 3 and within the first 10 minutes of playing I was happy I bought it.

The trick system seems to be a bit tighter than SSX, but easier than Tony Hawk games. And the actual animations and voice overs are actually FUNNY, which is rare in a game.

I definitely recommend Amped 3 if you're into snowboarding games at all.
