View Full Version : Are you one of the many who have spent more on video games since coming to CAG?

I know I am.

I started in the summer, got addicted to the "EB morning updates" buying left and right with my spiffy new debit card, applying coupon codes and Edge cards and receiving games fairly often. Whereas before I had just bought games on release day for 50 bucks and played through them thoroughly, now I had too many games that I had become saturated in them and wouldn't be able to play them.

And then I saw the light.

Or not, I have just come to realize that I don't need to buy a game because it's cheap, as I have plenty to play and that while I'm playing them the price of the other games will decrease. They aren't going anywhere.

Yes and no. I spend more, but I make up that money by selling some extras of what I buy. So, in the end, no.

I now spend more but I get more games to show for it. Before $100 was 2 new games. Now, I can make that at least 4 or 5.

I definitely spend more, but I have more to show for it. Cheapassgamer has made me a poorassgamer. =(

Of course. I never paid full price before, but now I won't even buy a game unless it is clearanced or I have a coupon, or something else to sweeten the deal. I have become very spoiled, and get disgusted at retail pricing!

When I finally turn the bend and pick up next-gen hardware I'll only be buying when I have no unfinished games. At this point I'm planning on selling off half of my collection, a majority of which, that is still unplayed.

Yes pre-CAG I would buy one game at a time, usually full price, beat it, move on, now I have a stack of about 20 unfinished games, even "greats" like God of War and the like.

Not really.. I spend less. I save money on the games I want, which I would've bought anyway. I don't really see what compels one to backlog so many games.

Before I used to only buy things that really interested me, now I buy things that somewhat interest me but are cheap. I think I've spent more since joing CAG, but I have gotten a lot more for my money.

I spend about the same but get more for the money and thus have a stack of about 15 unplayed games.

I've turned a corner, before I would buy just about any game that was cheap (less than $10). After playing some of these cheap games over Christmas break, I found out that most of them suck pretty hard. I am going to start trying to go for more quality over quantity.

Yeah, I have dozens of unfinished/unplayed games, but I keep buying more. I just can't pass up a $10 hit.

The way I go about it is a amount spent per game. I usually aim around 15 a game. So If I get a brand new game I really wanted for close to retail I try to balance it out by buying games that I am intrested in at a far lower price. So the TRU sale really helped my average last year which ended at like 14.89 a game

Yeah, I think my average since CAG/buying my GC (didn't buy much for it before joining) is about $12 or $13 per game. It has increased somewhat due to a ridiculous amount of DS games around $20 a pop, but it's still a pretty decent ratio. So even though I've spent some $1000+, at least I have over 100 games now ;)

My motto is: I'm not trying to save money. . . I'm trying to spend the same amount of money on more things. :D

I think I'll make that my signature. I imagine this kind of thinking is what gets people like me a sizable backlog.

I actually don't spend more money now that I've discovered CAG. I still spend about the same amount of my money on games, it's just that I get more games than I would normally. Before, I could get one game for my $50; now I can get several. I'm not intimidated to pay full price for a game if I really want it though (like Zelda: TP, Kingdom Hearts 2, 360 games). But I also think twice before dropping fifty clams on a single game. I ask myself if I really want the game, or rather, need it. I ask myself if I could stomach waiting for a price drop or a sale, and then I decide whether or not I should buy it. And I only buy a game if I actually want it; not solely because it's cheap.

I currently have several unopened games due to the TRU clearance, but I've stopped buying games for the moment. I actually still have money left over because I bought plenty of great games at great prices and I won't need to buy another game for a while (at least not until the big titles come out, anyway).

i bought a lot of games due to the morning update.. but i got the best deals when i go to the local pawn shop.. and Guitar Hero i had to have brand new. but other than that.. i usually wait around at the pawn shop and i always end up with the best price for any game.

That's about what happened with me... I've also started spending more so it didn't work out for the best.

Almost at 150 unfinished games!:D

I'd say yes. I've haven't paid $50 for any game in over 4 years and I've only been on CAG for 1.5 years. My average price per game (about $7) hasn't gotten any lower since joining CAG but I'm able to find more games for great prices :D!

I don't spend any considerable amount more now that I'm a CAGer. I used to rent games quite a bit, but I've stopped doing that. I just get more for my money now.

I would say I actually spend less or maybe the same as before, but I definitely get more. I'm not so hard-core that I run out to every sale and try to score a discounted game, but I'll keep watch on the deals, and if something I think I'd like pops up, I'll give it a look.

CAG's given me some great discounts to use (last year's BB coupon netted me $5 of about 4 or 5 different games). I've also discovered that a used game plays the same as a new one, but costs half as much. So I've been scoping the used bins at places like Gamestop and EB--but I usually wait for a B2G1F deal at same--I can pick up 3 pretty good games for around $30 that way.

Not to mention I can usually wait for the hot new games to drop in price. I may be playing games that came out last year, but I also was able to pick up Splinter Cell: CT for $5 on Black Friday as opposed to the $50 or so it cost when it was first released. And with deals like that, I can live without being cutting-edge.

The $14 TRU Canada sale I spent $300 at two times, so $600, but I also got like 8x more games than I normally would have, and I wanted almost every single game I bought. I returned the ones I didn't want afterall to Blockbuster for $35-40 canadian a pop.

Other than that, I don't really get any deals, and I'm mainly here for conversation/trading. Canada is weaksauce.

CAG has made me more or a collector and less of a gamer.

I used to pay full price for games and play them thoroughly to the end... but now, I end up spending all my time hunting for all the cheap deals that I no longer have time to play and the games just sit there, unopened.

But I can't turn back the hands of time now.

Same here, but almost all of my games are opened (all my sealed games are duplicates). When I get a game I gotta try it at least for a few minutes, and I have several games that have only been played for a few minutes.

Same here brother. I think CAG has made me more of a cheap ass collector than a cheap ass gamer. But I cannot stop hunting for all the cheap deals either and I must buy at least 1 game a week.

No. Unfortunately whenever a deal is advertised on CAG and I want to go for it, it's usually sold out by the time I get there. I usually find cheap deals better on my own.

However, this doesn't stop me from looking. ;)

I spend more on games now for sure. But it's just a phase, I think. I went through the same thing years ago when Ebay first opened. I spent about $1,000 a month for a few months and then burned out on collecting/playing games for several years after that.
