Installation was a bitch! It took 2 hours when it was all said and done. One hour to install the game, 20 mins put in personal info and codes, and 45 mins to download updates. To kill time I took a shower and watched "The Man" DVD and it still wasn't done. You guys are in for a treat.

I read the beta 'world' will be Xbox 360 players only (American, Japanese, and European). Once the full game is released you will be able to join any of the current 'worlds' with PC, and PS2 players.

Some people are receiving this in their mailboxes today, I however was not one of them.

FFXI is said to be 5 gigs when installed....

I havent had a chance to play it because the registration took a half hour, then its one hour to download the game, then its 30 more minutes to register names and whatnot for the game then you go to play it to find out its another 45 minutes to download more stuff for the game!!! You guys better have a usb kb because you have to type, a lot...

Also you need to find some info on the website for playonline which is a userid, ffx id #and a playonline id#. The game didnt say anything about that so make sure you read the magazine first. Maybe I'll get to play some time...sheesh!

I know its good to have Square on Xbox finally but bringing this PS2 online trash to Live is really crappy so far. Live is all about streamline and this is horrid. The downloading is understandable but the constant registering is ridiculous.

They should've kept it Xbox exclusive so you don't have a ton of new people running in with people who have played for a year. The demo will be much better this way and it's free.

Holy crap FFXI takes a long time to install and register. I highly suggest plugging in a USB keyboard when registering too, because there are quite a few forms to fill out. If you actually read all the agreements that they spit out at you, those could probably take close to an hour alone. I just clicked on "Install FFXI to Harddrive" and it gave me an estimate of 57 minutes!

Update: Well those times from that GameFaqs quote are correct. I just finished setting up my profile and right when I thought I was actually going to get to play, nope, time for more updates. No chance of me actually playing this tonight.

Yep, it took well over 2 hours to set up and I haven't even gotten a chance to pick my character or start the game yet. I plan on playing it quite a bit on Friday though.

I only quickly glanced at the FFXI article in OXM, but I think the way voice chat works is that you would actually just do a private voice chat session while you were in the game. A keyboard would still be required for communicating with players not in your chat session. At least, I think that's how it works. Like I said, I've only installed it and haven't actually played it yet. I feel like I should get an achievement for just getting this far though.

I will be starting in the city of Windurst. Each city has certain groups that its best for though so think about that before just joining one. I have spent years in this game and got many jobs to lvl 65+ so if people need some help I know I will be in Windurst.


Also we should make a CAG Linkshell. Or any named Linkshell but one we all join.

I've never played this game in my life. If people want to start up a CAG "Linkshell" I'd join for the Beta though. (I'm assuming a Linkshell is a clan of some sort).

Right it can be said a Linkshell is a clan. In truth its a way to contact each other in like a large group chat that can be used no matter where you are in the world. You have to give a pearl to members and they equip them and then yoru all set.
The game has three main cities and Windurst is one of them. Each city gives perks to certain races for starting there if that city is best for that race.

I know Windurst's missions/quests/secrets/ect... inside and out so I just wanted to say if someone were to start there and needed help with something I could help them.

If they did that you wouldn't have enough people playing to enjoy the game. After lvl 10, this game requires you to group in order to level up.

I always level a job to 12 or 13 before I join parties in Valkurn Dunes (aka Hell). I've even managed to solo my thief to level 20. At level 10 level off of worms in the Highlands near the Gusgen Mines entrance or by the lake in La Thaine Platuea. If you wish to party throw your seek up and fight worms while seeking for a party instead of complaining about not getting one later on. This strategy works best for damage dealing classes. If your a mage you'll get an invite very quickly.

this is drawn out slow battle system that's like most other MMORPGs.

Select enemy, select attack, watch, do a few renkeis spells blah blah.
It's real time but it isn't very action.

It'll be fun at the beginning and at certain points. It's certainly addicting and will suck up loads of time to get high lvl. Hell you have to reach lvl 20 before you can even get a chocobo....

when I started playing there weren't any high lvls aroudn to help and let me tell you getting subjob drops and other quests can get quite annoying....

honestly we're talking at later levels just waiting hours for a party. And if the party is actually good expect tons of time spent just pulling monsters over and over.......... and over...............

And gil?.... ugh..

Since this is a new Beta Server i'll assume it won't be fun hunting skeletons for skulls to get subjob. It's a whole lot easier when you have a high lvl helpin you though.

There's a whole lot to hate about FFXI and somehow it stays addicting.

lol, yeah make sure you check to see you can use items before you buy them.
Adventuror coupon you turn into the person in front of the moghouse (at least in Bastok or wherever it's been awhile)

If you wanna throw your life away, then yes. :) I spent over 4 months playing this in 04 on the PS2. Like 3-4 hours a day. This shit is soo addicating.

Ok here are some tips for the Beginngers.

1.) Stay close to your home town from levels 1-4. Only fight Decent Challanges or Lower. No Toughs.

2.) Before leaving the city get a singnit casted on you from a NPC right before the exit. The name of the guy will be something T.K. or something R.K. If you dont get a signit you wont get crystals.

Thats all I can think of right now.

Yes, you can still play it but its way easier with one. I just picked up a nice Gameshark SharkBoard ( I Think its called that ) from Gamestop for only 9.99. I can be used with PS, Xbox, Xbox 360, and GC. Very cool for 10 bills.

hmmm, installing now. it's cool they included the chains of promanthia. I quit like 1 week after it came out. Problem is tho that most of the extra stuff requires high lvl anyway haha. I never even finished Zilart O.o....

I really wouldnt worry about it. Its only worth 50 gil and thats not alot of money. Just go out and fight. Before you go out though get a signit from the TK or whatever dude standing near the gate to leave your home town. This will enable you to collect Crystals from enemies you fight. Then sell any items at the auction house to make money.

mmmmm this port is incredibly disspointing. I didn't expect new graphics but a little bit of live intergration would have been much appreciated. they should at least let you look up people's gamertags and aync it with XBL. This whole port seems halfassed to me honestly.

With 1080i the text is unreadable with my 30" WS in 1080i. I have to bump it down to 480p to read the text. My HP/MP bar is smaller then my thumb. Impossible to read the # near impossible to see if the bar is full with out going to the status screen.

I have a 36" HDTV and I'm playing this game in 1080i and like others have said, the text is barely readable unless I'm close to the TV. Fortunately I can still make out what is on the screen, but this appears to be an issue that would need fixing before the final release.

hehe it's ok, lvl 7 thf now. Game is really getting tiresome though. Walking around/waiting seems to remind me of why I quit the game. Also I guess it's not quite as fun the 2nd time around. Very little motivation for questing. I hope for all you people who plan to play in the long run that they actually add a bit of live intergration though I doubt it.

I've been playing it. It's decent, but very dated. Not only is it not WoW, it's not even EQOA. Stiff death penalities should be long forgotten, conning things is a complete bitch, and there are WAY too goddamned NPCs to talk to, among other problems, but hell, at least it's free. Honestly though, there is no way I would buy or pay to play this, without a severe overhaul, which I just don't see coming. The ability to changes classes is awesome though, as is the player housing, which EQII ripped off pretty directly. And dammit, every MMO should have chocobos.

Ahhh thats why there are hardly anything in the stores. Yea A LinkShell will cost 8K. I'm tring to keep my guy up to date with the latest armor but also tring to afford this shell. Also Im pretty sure I can just send the linkshell to the people in Windy or Bastok from the lady near the auction house. I wn't be on much this week maybe an hour here or there just to do some solo leveling. I also switch my job from Warrior to Theif. Being a tank isn't fun IMO.

Its been so long since I got a linkpearl on the PC I forget, but I don't think you can send it via the in-game 'mail' system. I think it can only be traded to the other person. Windy wouldn't be too bad to get to at lvl 15+ your going to Selbina anyway, grab the boat to Mhuara then book through Buburimu, and Tahrongi Canyon, to Sarutabaruta. Bastok on the other hand is a pain without the choco.

Question on the voice chat, do I need the person in my Xbox Live friends list and set the chat through threre (the xbox dash), or how do I initiate it in FFXI?

1. Your a "new adventurer", so other people can help you if they so desire. There is a way to turn this off, or you can just play for so long (5 hours total I think) and it will go away.

2. A linkshell is an in-game socail group. Just like when you join a party you can talk only to the players in the party, if you have a linkshell equipped you can get/send messages to anyone in your shell that is online. They will come across your message window in a different color (green I belive, how appropriate). You will either get a Linkpearl, or a Pearlsack (a linkpearl lets you be part of any linkshell conversation, the pearlsack allows you to give a linkpearl to other players). I just assumed everyone would have a sack thats how we did it on the PC because you never know who is on at what times or where (in the online world) they are located, but Spoo is correct if Cyrril doesn't give everyone a Pearlsack he should at least give one to someone that hails from Windurst, and Bastok.

Fav new thing about the game since I last played: Gobs that are zoned disapear and go back to where they came from. NO MORE TRAINS! Also had a party member tag a bat and once he was dead the bat didnt agro us all, I think it must be like the first thing I mentioned.

Things I dont like about the game since I last played: This is just on the 360 demo but; many great zones area not even used. I could not believe noone was using the Shakurim Maze to lvl. I took a all BLM and me WHM team in there and owned all.

Odd things: This beta is so very much like the PS2 beta. Harder to get parties due to people not having a clue how to even accept an invite or chat. Many people seem to want to try to play this like Guild Wars or WOW. No or not many NMs seem to be being camped. In retail you never seen the Peacock Charm NM not being camped but I see NMs just running around w/noone bothering them.
I seen atleast one new NM since the last time I played.
These new rings that you get with CP area cool. Nice idea. Now I need to find out what they all do.
I cant find nearly any of the items in the AH that used to be there. lol
After logging tones of hours into the game during my 4 day weekend I can tell you it sure was fun to be back and play it again. I slept maybe 9-12 hours the whole weekend (I had to do some honey do's though) but the rest of the time I was playing this game. Just super fun.

I swear in retail back a year or two on Phoenix you never seen a NM spawn spot w/o at least 5 ppl at it when it was near time and some times when its not. I was in Gidious the other day and the NM for the coveted staff (forgot its name just now) was up and no one was around to kill it. I have also seen Spini out and no one bothering it.

My first thought is dam I need to hurry up and lvl to clean up on these NMs. My next thought is why? Most of these people wouldn't pay high end for the items cus they dont need them/know what they do/care, and if they did would it matter cus if this is like the PS2 beta we will loss these characters and this server anyway.

Yea everyone is still low levels. When Shipwreck and Myself where leveling in East Ron we saw the Pugil Fish Swamfish. So, we just sat back and watched tons of people get 1 or 2 hit by him. Good times I say.

Also alot of my money making tricks work still. I used to go Logging all the time. Now I check and no one goes for logging points. I'm gonna hold off a little til the logs get higher on the AH. Elm logs on Fenrir server 2 years ago went for 4500 each, here they are only 1000. I cant wait til there are more crafters.

At level 5 I'd say only fight easy stuff. Sure you wont get as much EXP but its easier. Also you'll get more items this way and make more gil. I was at level 5 yesterday and pulled 2 levels within an hour by doing my method I just said. I also used some of my conquest points to by a EXP ring.

How to get this ring will be your next question so ill answer it now. The guy who casts a signit on you before you go out and fight( I hope you been getting the signit) talk to him and say I want to spend my conquest points. Go to common items and there is like a ring for 500 pts and 1000 pts. Get the one you can afford with your points ( Not Gil ) and equip it in your equipment screen. Then go to Items find the ring and use it. ( A then A again once it asks what to do with it either drop or use it ) You can only use it every 16 hours and the 500 pt one has a duration of 500 EXP and the 1000pt one has a 1000EXP. Basically they mutliply the amount of EXP you gain in a fight. Good Stuff.

and I don't see how it's bad that the maze is empty, sounds like it's good. Made a few JP friends yesterday night and played a little bit in Tahrongi. Exp sucked. Seems like many JP are new to this game as well. The PS2 ver of this game looked so shitty I dont understand how people even played it. This is just like the PC ver, pretty much nothing has changed. Any low end PC can play this game so def not a killer app. Esp when there are numerous superior MMORPGS out there. FFXI is nothing more than a time suck. Just wait till you have to do limit quests and AF armor quests. Thinking about it hurts my head =p

and I don't see how it's bad that the maze is empty, sounds like it's good. Made a few JP friends yesterday night and played a little bit in Tahrongi. Exp sucked. Seems like many JP are new to this game as well. The PS2 ver of this game looked so shitty I dont understand how people even played it. This is just like the PC ver, pretty much nothing has changed. Any low end PC can play this game so def not a killer app. Esp when there are numerous superior MMORPGS out there. FFXI is nothing more than a time suck. Just wait till you have to do limit quests and AF armor quests. Thinking about it hurts my head =p

Airships are level 5. When I stopped playing I just got to rank 4. There is no way I would have been able to beat the 3 rank 4 missions with my character only being level 32. Chocobo quest takes forever lol. I kept feeding it once an real time hour ( which = 24 hours in game time ) while watching a movie. Also the subjob quest can be time consuming becuase you have to get 3 items drops from monsters. Getting the skull was easy for me but I heard horrible tales for tring to find one. My favorite part was traveling at like level 23 to get the 3 keys for Kazam (?) That was pretty cool. Alot of traveling though to the 3 major cities ( Bastok, Sandy, and Windy.)

Sell at the Auction House. Keep your prices lower then what the bid history says so you can sell your stuff. Also give it a week and hopefully it will fill out, people will gain higher levels and move on to other places for leveling.

People buy everything. Sure your not gonna make 10 million gil for rabbit hares but 30 gil for each does add up.

FaintDeftone A lot of the early items you'll get can be used for quest in San d'Oria (many of which are repeatable). Some of the items you get from quest will not be for your character so sell those on the auction house. If the auction house price seems low try selling the item to a vendor (those tents set up near the auction house/west gate/east gate in South Sandy) sometimes they will pay just as much, and its instant.

The items I recommend keeping for quest that are repeatable.... (in San d'Oria)

flint stones 4 qty=120 gil (quest starts in tavern south Sandy)
rabbit hides 3 qty=100 gill (quest is guy standing outside tanner's guild)
bat wings 2 qty=200 gil (quest is guy just through the arch in north Sandy heading towards Port Sandy)

BREVITY on FFXI 360:

I don’t intend for this to be a full comparison between the PC and the PS2 version.
I don’t intend this to be a full tutorial of what to do in the game.
I don’t intend this to be a full grip session about the game or MMOs or new players.

Preface and short Bio:
FFXI was my first MMO and my first PS2 beta. I believe it all started about June or July of I cant recall the year maybe 2001 or 2002. I do recall not playing KOTOR due to having this. Right off the bat I felt that FFXI was a rewarding game and never had I seen so many online people in one place. Within a week I was missing out on school work, regular work, family time, and sleep… welcome to the life of a MMO addict I thought. It took me about two months to get life back in order and work out not sleeping as much. I quickly got into a LS and made many new close online friends, that would later follow me in getting the PC version early and playing together for the next two years or so. What kept me coming back to the game besides the community was the rewarding experience of working hard to get something and receiving recognition for that: no matter if it were and item or a rank or a lvl. In FFXI when you look as someone RANK say 5 or lvl say 50 no matter the job, you know nearly exactly the kinds of hell they had to go through to get it and you can respect them for it.

As a result of the fame that came with working hard I quickly decided that I wanted to become as rich in money and items as I could so I started researching and camping even NM within reason. I would team camp and solo camp to raise my chances. I also farmed higher end things with my DRK/THF. Once I got to a point where people would scan me and see that I had this or that item and say “wow dude you got to dam much time on your hands, that or you used rl money to buy gil.” I then decided to go with a job that commanded more respect at least in my eyes. I became a BST and loved it more than any job that I had ever played. At this time I was well into the US launch of the PS2 and PC versions. BST lent its self easily to my life of on again off again AFKs and me falling asleep playing, that and no need for parties. Plus you cant forget all the loot you get and don’t have to share. When I finished the game and decided to call it quits I had been Rank6 67BST/65DRK/41WHM/35WAR/16THF/20BLM/3RNG. Those are all my lvls or nearly so cus I really cant recall exactly but those are within a lvl of each of my former jobs.

I would like to note I played WOW till I got to lvl 45 Hunter. It was fun but I just didn’t get into it as much.

That said: My return to Vana'diel:
There were several times when I thought I might return to FFXI to start over or maybe buy my character back but I never did, so when I seen that it was coming to the 360 I knew I would give it a shot. This beta is so very much like the PS2 beta and I am having a blast with it. So far I like all the new additions to the game. Like the change that makes it so that trains are not going to be a bother every again. Wow, I cant even begin to tell you the times a train messed up life for so very many people.


On voice chat:
I was very glad to hear that you could use the XBL headset in the game but so far in the beta I can tell you its very nearly totally useless. You can only use it to chat in the same way it would work had you been sitting in the dashboard of your 360 and wanted to talk it but with someone. That being that as far as I can tell you can only chat with one person at a time and you have 4 dif rooms you can invite a single person too. This makes it so that you cant hope to have a match where atleast your whole team (6 members) in a single chat where you can talk about stuff while you play. I am not hurt by this since I truly grew up with this game not having voice the chat option and for me that’s fine and good even. I like that I can talk in so many different ways in the game the way it is. /sh for shout, where what you say will be seen through the whole zone; /p lets you talk to your whole party alone; /t lets you talk to a single person no matter where he is.

On wishful thinking:
Boy do I have a lot of things I wish would happen. First I hope they let beta people keep their characters. During the US PS2 beta this was not the case but I hear that during the JP PS2 beta they got to keep their characters. I hope they give us the game for free. At the end of the PS2 beta we got a copy of the game and the HDD needed to play it. I think I recall this being a 60$ value at the time, which I would think is what the 360 version will cost (though I think it should cost around what it does for PC and PS2 currently) so maybe they will do this. I hope they eliminate the monthly fee for the game or at least reduce it. Back when I played I think it was 12 something a month, I hope they take it down to 10 at least.
I hope they leave Hydra (our current beta server) up and allow us to continue to play there. This was not the case in the PS2 beta, they closed and deleted cactar. If not keeping the 360 Hydra alive I hope they make some completely 360 version servers or new servers where they don’t allow migration to. This is not the case with all the FFXI servers made so far. Every time they make new ones they allow migration, which the gil sale sites are sure to migrate to and with that they economy goes crazy and things start to cost a fortune. I know that before long any server will have some gil sale bots on them but atleast with the lack of migration it will be a longer time befor things go nuty.

My thought is that it would just plain suck to be made to go to servers already fully populated by long time players and super screwed up economies. Its hard enough just starting out in this game w/o having to be further bothered by things costing way more than they normally would. Plus its just sucky to go to servers where every NM is camped by super high lvl players that have been camping it for the past 3 years and only lose the kill to other players just like them. All that will come in time to any server but I would hope that SE would see fit to give us all a fresh start on a clean slate (server).

Will I move on to the retail version?
I am truly pulled apart by that thought for many reasons. One, I hate missing out on all the cool new games that come out. Two, I hate missing out on so much of just about everything else in life. The game is great fun but it pulls me back like no other game ever has. Three, I have in the past done so much in this game that the only “new” stuff to me I would think would be found beyond lvl 67 at least and so I would have to work for a long time to get to that point again and then beyond. The idea of coming back could be helped if I got one of my four old characters back or if we got to keep our beta characters.

On differences:
After the beta for PS2 I only played it on my PS2 for the first two weeks of getting it after SE sent it to me free when the PS2 version launched. I thought the draw distance sucked, I thought the words were awfully big at time and yet to small at others. I loved the PS2 Logitec troller/kb though and got an adapter and used that the whole time on my PC. On PC there were many things that made the game better for me. I loved seeing it run on my new PC and I loved playing other music or audio books in the background.

On the 360 my four fav things area:
One, the game seems to run great. I think this shouldn’t surprise me since it is a very old game that runs fine on older PCs.
Two, I love the look of the game on my 45” HDTV. I should say this though. The year I got my Sony HDTV rear projection, I had no clue about such items and this was the first game I played on it outside of Halo and a small handful of others. I tend to fall asleep while playing and at other times I will have long play sessions. Well this very game broke my pristine screens virginity by putting several spots of burn in on it. I got a perma-spot of signet, HP MP in the bottom right and I think even some Protect to remind me that I am a retard. There are a few others but they are none of them all that bad and I still think this game looks awesome in huge HD format. I cant wait to upgrade TVs though and get a DLP or LCD.
Three, I love that I can listen to my own music on this game, just the way I did on my PC.
Four, I love that I can still use and see my friends list while playing the game.
I hate that you cant get XBL points for stuff done in the game.

Peeves with current setup:
I don’t know who thought it would be an awesome idea to stick with the play online viewer but that’s just stupid. I hate that the game takes so many steps just to get going. If I had it my way you would put the game in and it would work just like any other game. I still hate how the friends list functions in the game. I mean to send a friend request for a new person it seems very odd in that you send them a message and in so doing you send a friends request. Its always been odd to me. Like I said this is a great game “for me” and I don’t want to go into all small gripes about the game mechanics.

Final thoughts:
I don’t truly think there is no reason for anyone who owns a decent or even a fair PC to get this game on 360 over the PC version. It will no double be cheaper on PC and you don’t have to wait for its launch. And you might even use less power per hour to play it over playing it on the 360. The game is older and I think SE is trying to breathe life into it but I hope that effort doesn’t stop with simply porting the game. I hope they offer a lot of new stuff that every lvl and job and rank can enjoy in the coming updates. I can tell you I will be playing this game often while the beta lasts but beyond that I just don’t know as of yet.

I got a few questions for you guys if you don't mind answering. I just got done playing for awhile and I have a few things that confuse me.

1. How are we suppose to level up if there are so little enemies that spawn in the fields? There's seriously like one within a mile radius and everybody swarms it. It's so hard to level up because of so many people acting like vultures. Is there a better way to do this? I have only been able to make it to LVL 3 so far and I'm still too weak to take on orcs, sheep, or goblins.

2. What's some good ways to make money? Running around the fields really doesn't do much. The best method I've found is to get signet casted on you, which'll sometimes drop crystals. Too bad they're not worth much though. I've tried doing quests too but I can't find very many and most of them give you dumb items. I was told by an NPC that the lumberyard will give me work. I went in the area where this lumberyard is suppose to be and there's only a carpender's guild. Where the hell is this lumber yard? What are good methods of making money?

3. Anybody know where that little kid's father is? The kid crying by the fountain in North San whatever?

For anyone that is trouble having trouble with things to fight it seems like the towns other than San D'oria are less crowded. I first started in the one with a desert outside of it and it was pretty easy to find things to fight, I don't know if that's still the case now though.

I got a few questions for you guys if you don't mind answering. I just got done playing for awhile and I have a few things that confuse me.

1. How are we suppose to level up if there are so little enemies that spawn in the fields? There's seriously like one within a mile radius and everybody swarms it. It's so hard to level up because of so many people acting like vultures. Is there a better way to do this? I have only been able to make it to LVL 3 so far and I'm still too weak to take on orcs, sheep, or goblins.

2. What's some good ways to make money? Running around the fields really doesn't do much. The best method I've found is to get signet casted on you, which'll sometimes drop crystals. Too bad they're not worth much though. I've tried doing quests too but I can't find very many and most of them give you dumb items. I was told by an NPC that the lumberyard will give me work. I went in the area where this lumberyard is suppose to be and there's only a carpender's guild. Where the hell is this lumber yard? What are good methods of making money?

3. Anybody know where that little kid's father is? The kid crying by the fountain in North San whatever?

1.) Yea this is a big problem right now. There are soo many people playing the game. I guess try to play when its off peak times. Play early morning or something. Maybe less people will be on.

2.) Everyone has there own way to make some gil. I won't give out any of my tips since that might F me over. But keep tring different gil making approaches. One tip I do is look at everyones Bazaar when they walk by you ( The little bag by there name ) . Sometimes they just want to get rid of the item fast so they are selling it half off from the Ah price. Flipping stuff is a great way to make some gil.

3.) The father is in Helbert's Blades. Its the weapon Store in South Sandy on your way to your Mog House.

Ok, I started the game, but dont know what to do. Do I just run around and get quests (have one inwhich I need to get water for the church, and the little boy one) and fight enemies to get to higher levels? Also, all I have is the oniko (sp) sword, and when I select it in the menu, my character still punches. Am I doing something wrong.

Cus I didnt have anything else to do I stayed up all night last night and have yet to go to bed. This on the heels of 4.5 hours sleep the night b4 cus I got an all JP party that was awesome.
So I got lvl 21 and all my sub items. I cant believe I am still in my starting gear. I have only died like 4 time in the dunes since going there too. I am quite lucky. Last night out of 9 ghoul pops we got 5 Skulls in a row. I got the last one of those. Just a great night. I plan to get on a bit later today and play through the night again maybe. I really want to play my WHM to lvl 30 by its self and not have to stop and lvl BLM. I know for all my other characters BLM was the fastest thing for me to lvl but thats when I had nice things to wear and money for food.

You have to go to the Equipment Screen and equip it as your primary weapon. All you basically do is level up and stuff. Try to Level to like 10 before doing missions. You can get Quests by talking to NPC's. Good luck dude.

Has anybody done the quest in San D'oria when you talk to the little girl and that thief runs past and you have to find her? I kept talking to NPCs and following her trail. It eventually took me to one of the gates that leaves town (the one by the watch tower) and then I couldn't find any more clues. The last clue I got was a guard standing by the exit said he saw her run by. So I went outside of town and that messed the quest up. Anybody know where she goes?

Also, anybody know how to extract water from rivers?

Im not sure about the THF quest but to extract the water you go to East Ron. It like H-6 not too far from the town gates. Once you get out go north towards the river. It should be the north most point of the river.

Yeah for the water quest you had to get a water skin from another priest (closest one to the guy that gave the quest for like 50gil donation). Then go outside and there will be a targetable point that says something like 'Cheval River' trade the water skin to that point and it will fill the skin to give back to the first priest.

The thief is outside in West Ron in one of the towers like F-6 on the map. You will have to talk to her, she'll deny it. Then go back and talk to the little girl in Port Sandy she'll give you a button she thought you dropped. Take the button back and trade it to the thief, she'll confess then give you back the glasses. Return the glasses to the guard in Port Sandy.

I followed the whole river to the end of the map and still couldn't figure out how to extract water. Do I have to stand in the water and hit a button or is there an NPC to talk to?

i'm not suprised. This game is hell really it is. I think i'm onlyplaying for some nostalgia and some dialogue with japanese folks. Hell the first time around it was horrid. it's 50% pure ass and 50% pretty ok. I blame my friends mostly for buying it when it came out because they wanted to drag me into thier sick little world.

Anyway yeah D: I think I head to dunes now

Okay I have another question, sorry.

Has anybody played the quest where you have to pass out the 15 fliers for that lady in the magic shop? She said to give it only to townsfolk (which I assume are NPCs). I've tried giving them to tons of different NPCs of all races and types, none of them accept them. I've given fliers to them by trade menu and when I give it to them, they won't take it. How do I complete this?
