And I have a concern. The D-pad has issues in the LEFT direction...when I press it to the left, it takes a lot of pressure for it to register, and furthermore, if I press hard it makes a bit of a "crack" noise, which I assume is the rubber sensor that is slightly offset and its catching it and falling off its side.

Anyways, I'm at college and far from a BB (AND I left the receipt at home), so the MS customer support representative said that since they only really deal with systems and don't do specific exchanges for defective controllers, I should go to a Walmart, W/O a receipt, and they should exchange it because they have a deal with MS where they don't lose on the controller, especially since I'm just exchanging.

I was kinda surprised. Anyways, does anyone else have this kind of issue with the D-Pad on the wired controller, and also, what do you think of their solution? Aside from now having to figure out a way to get to the Walmart thats kinda far from my college town, I'm going to have to explain this all to some walmart customer service clerk. Ugh.

Try calling this number and see if they can help you:

800 360 7561

It's the number for Microsoft Peripherals, which covers keyboards, mice and the like.

Try not to be another "lets' use Walmart as our out" CAG. :-s

I'll try the number tomorrow, but lets face it...MS told me to use Walmart...I'll just go tell them it was a gift.

Could someone please check their d-pad and see if there are any directions, particularly left, that might be less sensitive or make weird noises when pressed hard? Thanks!

Yeah, both of my controller's D-pads blow.

Actually, the left on the d-pad not be responsive seems to be a common problem on the official Xbox forum so you are not alone. However, some people have said exchanging the controller has resolved the problem so it doesn't seem to be a problem that plagues all 360 controllers, just a select few.

I can't believe they actually told you to go to WallyWorld and exchange it.

So much for WalMart not being the bitch of the hopeless.

If thats the case, that more than just mine have this problem, at least i can be more content with the replace...but if the second one DOES I WILL call MS again and I will FORCE myself into their second tier of representatives and demand a FIXED controller...Me no likey the defects.

Just out of curiosity, how common are problems with the wired controllers?

I'm looking for a PC gamepad for my new laptop, and like the possibility of multi-tasking (should I decide on a 360 over PS3). That said, if I'm going to spend the extra $$ for the Microsoft controller, it'd better work.

(Any good deals on the 360 controller, BTW? I see the Best Buy coupon, but I'm admittedly a bit conflicted about the 'no copies' part of it.)

Check out DVDempire.com, as they're having a sale right now. Wired 360 controllers are $32 and you get free shipping with 3 or more items in case you wanted to order some more accessories or two DVD, music titles, games, etc.

There's a $10 off $100 order coupon code out there as well.
