Didnt see another topic about it, but does anyone else play Magic Online? I play occassionally, tried my hand at a few tourneys and had some fun. I still find myself logging on every now and then to play. Much easier than the actual card game since all of the rules are enforced for you :D
Anyways, my SN is danro4 if there are other CAGers looking to get their asses handed to them.
haha, I'd forgoten about that - I played a little online after I found out one of my deadbeat freshmen roommates was a closet tournament champion with the paper cards. I don't think the account expires and I had a farily decent deck for the $25 I invested in it.

i played it a lot from like Jan 2003 to summer 2004 then just lost major interest in it... yea the account never expires cause i just went over there after the 9th ed came out online and i still had my cards and that is over a year without checking in....
i mostly did trades over there..
Buy 3 rares for 1 ticket then Sell 2 rares for buck on ebay,,, was a very small profit but it was a profit.... Then way too many people came online prices went nuts people starting having auto bots that ripped you off in trades ECT..
im shocked that game is still online.. I remember back i think Summer 2002 or 03 when it first went live people was saying 6 months and this be out of bus.

Not much has changed from what you describe Slide. Me myself, I buy tickets from the Magic Online Store and trade them for commons to those guys who buy boosters left and right and have the extras to spare. Theres no greater satisfaction than decimating someone who has spent a paycheck on a deck with a peasant deck :D

I got bored of magic when it changed to whoever can pull off the best combo first. Stopped buying cards around Visions...however long ago that was.

i used to play leagues but always had bad luck... i would win the first match hands down but then would get 2 bad draws and always lose..
i think my best league finsh was like 8 and 12 never won anything
I still have several Onslaught sealed starters and boosters. I used to play in the month-long leagues. I always came in the top 10 so I would win what I needed for the next month. The only real non-league deck I had was a very finely tuned Odyssey block blue/green madness.

I haven't been on MoDo in awhile. Used to play the paper cards alot but decided against spending more money on it. Might get back into it casualy but I'm turned off on how slow the game has become. I think i'm the only one who actually enjoyed playing back when you could play with 4 Tolarian Academy ;)

If you guys want to try out the new cards but don't want to pay any money you can always use this program:
http://www.magic-league.com/
The cards don't have pictures, but it's free.

Heh I've been playing Magic off and on for about 10 years now, and I've been on MoDo off and on since Onslaught. If any of you are ever on and you need tickets, my SN is CastlesInTheSky. I sell tickets for 0.88 each via paypal, non-cc only. I usually keep a pretty good stock. Magic is pretty fun, but I can only handle it in doses. It feels like 80% of the people on there are either quiet or they are complete a$$holes. Some of the things they say to ya...man they'd be dead if they said half that stuff to your face! haha Anyway, I think leagues are the easiest way to play if you aren't ultra competitive, because you can play whenever you want and not fall out of "the loop" as far as the tournament stuff goes. That and the occasional draft are about all I have time for now...a far cry from the non-stop binges I used to go on when I was like 14 haha. Fun times, fun times.

I only ever just beta tested the online game. The idea of paying money for virtual cards that, in some cases, can't be redeemed didnt go over well with me.
As for the game in general, Mercadian Masques block pretty much killed the game for me. I just found vast majority of the cards to be watered down and uninteresting. Invasion block did nothing to change my mind.

I agree with you about Mercadian Masques, what a crap set of cards, but INVASION rocked hardcore! The gold cards in the set are still some of the toughest to beat, and the dragons were actually useful. Loved the entire block.

I've been looking forward to v3.0 for a while now too. Especially the way leagues will work. I really love playing leagues but I hate it how everyone rushes to get all their counting games in on the first day, and then the rest of the week it seems like my counting games always get paired up with a camper working on his 123rd tie breaker match. Supposedly v3.0 will take care of this, pairing people correctly if they are looking to play a counting match or tiebreaker match.
Once the regular 10th ed. leagues start firing off I'll probably hop into one. Release leagues are just kinda short for the money. Won't mess with drafting though, too many serious players. Plus I'm terrible at deck building, so leagues let me put more thought into my deck and give me a lot more games for the money.
