Company is in a bad shape, and today is the day I got laid off.
What's funny, is I originally took the job in the first place as a temp. job, and to be able to FINALLY get a list of the blue light games for CAG's. Well, I got promoted in that time, made head of my dept., put forth alot of effort into it, but in the end got laid off - it's just business, I won't really miss the job.
In the time I worked there I brought you guys information on two blue light sales with the highlights of the best games, information on the whole 50% wireless adapter deal, and various tidbits and price drops on K-Mart's video games section.
I'm glad I could finally give something back to the community, I'll just be sad I can do it no longer :(

I'm not really worried at all... I've got at least 8 months of manager experience now, I'm hoping that can land me a somewhat decent (and better) job.
I was planning on leaving real soon anyways, but hey, at least this way I can catch up on my enormous backlog. Dragon Quest VIII here I come!
I know people who still work there, so yea, I will still try and nab a blue light list when I can, because they are getting progressively better as they update it.

Pfft, it happens :p
This thread isn't meant to be a pity thread for me, I'll get back on my feet, I just know that CAG's counted on me to get them the K-Mart information they needed, and this is just a heads up to everyone - I don't think there's another resident K-Mart electronics employee on CAG.

If anyone is curious about what is going at K-Mart -

A woman's first hand account - I feel REALLY bad for her. Laid her off right after her battle with cancer.

What's hilarious is that they are laying off people at my store, when 90% of customer complaints is that there is NO ONE to help them when they need help, and they can NEVER find an employee. Most people would have to come to electronics because they know I was always there to be able to get help.
I imagine it's the same at every K-Mart. It's not long before K-Mart goes under and they focus 100% on Sears, which still seems to be doing ok.
Forgot to mention that I was offered the chance to come back as part time in a few weeks, but with a pay cut and probably as a cashier. Sure, that sounds great, I'll just take all my experience as a dept. manager and apply for a cashier making minimum wage.

So true. I hit my local K-Mart twice just to grab some additional stuff I needed for my room and there were a few good current deals. The only problem was that there were two employees outside of the cashier section and the game section who seemed to be stocking the store and helping customers. That's a bit of a problem when the place is gigantic, plenty of items don't have any price markings on them, and some areas of the store are in complete disarray.
Thanks for all of the info about the deals. I wish I could have used some of those more but the local K never had any more than a single title on the clearance deals and the Blue Lights were mostly non-events around here. Oh well!

Sorry about getting laid off. I see your located in FL. Why don't you work for publix? I currently work for them some of the best benefits pay/bonus plans i've ever seen. You get a inventroy bonus every 3 months (Varies from how busy your store is I average 400) Every 500 dollars you earn at the end of a year you get 1 share of publix stock (Valued at 77.25 at the moment). I make 11.25 per hour. And if your intrested in managment my produce manager takes home 900 a week and he said his inventory bonus is around 1200.
But thanks for the heads up about k-mart sales. I picked up Street Fighter anni. couple weeks ago thanks to you

Oh, here's something a bit awful... One employee at my dads store snuck into his computer, found out who was being cut, and told them a few days ahead of time. Not only do they find out early, but then they just have to wait until they get called into the office.
Prick...

Well, maybe he did it to give them a heads up so they can start looking for jobs ASAP? I mean, from the digging around I'm doing, most full time employees there are getting NO heads up whatsoever to the fact they are laid off, just called into the office, given the speech, and let go, no indication at all at any time they were going to lose their job.
I was lucky, I realized when I had a mini vacation with 5 days off in a row, and that someone else was dept. manager on next weeks schedule, that something was going to happen, so I started putting in app's at other jobs ASAP :D
Not to mention returning some cheap ass games I bought but never opened for my money back.

Thanks for everything, your work is much appreciated here at CAG, if not at Kmart.
Too bad about that, and good luck in the future.

yep. They figure they can cut the long time people at $12 and up, and then hire 2 part timers in thier place. It makes sense, but it still sucks.

What happened with me is that someone who has been there for many years, her position got axed by corporate, they needed someplace to put her because I guess they'd rather keep her and get rid of someone who is "newer", so she pretty much got my job, but she has little experience in electronics.
Hell, she hated when she had to cover my break, I don't know how she'll handle 9 hour shifts.

Thanks for the heads up on the blue light specials. I got a lot of great deals thanks to you and I appreciate it.

Heh, you sound like me the last time I got sick and had to stop working. No one to run my business? Who fucking cares! Aren't you sad?? Nooooooo, I've got videogames I can play! Why don't you get another college degree? No, no, no! World of Warcraft!
Glad to see you noticed a positive thing about being unemployed. Enjoy your time I off. I know I certainly enjoyed mine. :D You'll find something soon enough, I'm sure of it.

Sounds typical for retail... do a good job and they don't care. They'd rather have someone they can pay less to warm the smock (do they wear smocks at Kmart?).
Good luck, and I hope you find something way better.

What sucks is why people would chose Wal-mart over Target or Kmart, around my area Kmarts are cleaner, and I dont stand in line at the register as much at Kmart as we all do at WalMart(1000 of customers, 2 registers). I could turn this into a Walmart bashing thread, but anywho. I remember as a kid when there was Kmart/Walmart/ "Some Mall Over Priced Toy Store" (only good for Atari 7800 games) and Roses for buying Gi Joes, Pre Wal Mart empire days. kmart was always teh best place to get the lastest gi joes and Roses was the best price, I remeber plus tax gi joes where pennies less than 3 dollars, meaning as a kid rounding I had my allowance and knew that without much math how many gi joes I could get at Roses if their wasn't a new wave of gi joes to go to Kmart and get. If it wasn't for Kmart I might not have Gotten the 2nd version of Snake Eyes with Wolf, Road Pig or Quick Kick until much later.
