WoW computer issues... not because of the patch.

Yo homies.

I finally got around to buying WoW, played a few trials and liked it (on my old computer.) Well now I have it, and after a few minutes of playing (or logging in.) my screen goes completely black, and nothing happens.

I have a HiS Radeon 9550 256mb video card with a Vcool fan beside it, my case is open right now and i have a fan blowing on the mother board (someone suggested trying that), 512megs ram, and a 500watt power supply. (if you need more info just ask).

If anybody could give me some suggestions on what to do i'd really appreciate it. thanks!

Could be that your card just isn't compatible. Mine is like that with battlefield 2.

gahhhh... its a 256mb card... and the minimum is 32meg.

I would imagine you've resolved this, but just wanted to throw in on the video card incompatibility. A friend had a similar issue, black screen and all, but his was a Nvidia card of some flavor. Found his answers through the Blizzard WoW forums.

is there sound when you have a black screen?

i had the same problem with some game and i just changed the resolution of my desktop to the resolution of the game.
