View Full Version : Game issues with Older Model PS2

Does anyone else have problems with their older model PS2 trying to play newer games on it and it reads the disk but won't let you actually play it?
I have had this problem with a few of the newer games I try to play on my older PS2 but when I try with my newer Progressive Scan one that is at my girlfriend's house they play just fine.

My old ps2 was just the opposite, it didn't play the older cd-based games but played new games just fine.

Mine did that right before it died. I had readjusted the lens about half a dozen times before that too.

I am hoping that I don't have to resort to this but I may have to here soon if this continues.

Adjusting the lens is easy, just be really really careful taken the case apart the first time. The early PS2 has wires that are like masking tape and with lil clamp type connections. Other than that google it theres a bunch of tutorials. Mine never was correctable at that point. Mine just had disk read errors every once in awhile and a lil adjustment would fix it for a while then I'd have to do it again. If its finding the disk but not playing it, I don't know if itll help.

What newer games are you having trouble with specifically? I have a launch PS2 and haven't had any trouble yet but am wondering if this may eventually happen due to differences in newer firmware.

Here is a list of some that haven't worked. Also, I have one that is from the GT3: A-Spec editions that is doing this:

Um, the PS2 was about as buggy as a Xbox 360. Its even been documented that Sony officials designed the PS2 to break. Why is this still a hot topic?

Those were hardware problems. I think this is more a firmware issue with the newer games only.
I got a launch Ps2 and I can play We Love Katamari with no problem
