Studies have recently shown that games can help increase your reaction time, help teach logic and extend spatial abilities. However all of these great wondrous educational experiences are usually disguised as shooting Nazi's in Return to Castle Wolfenstein or saving Princess Peach in Super Mario 64. However game like Practical Intelligence Quotient, tell a different story, boasting "100 3D puzzles that test gamers' logic, by challenging them to move blocks, pull switches, and avoid obstacles. There are 13 different puzzle types to tease brains, and users can post their "PQs" online and see how they stack against the rest of the world." PQ: Practical Intelligence Quotient by Japanese game developer Nowproduction is now on the market and retails for $29.99.

I already knew about this about 5 months ago, but never knew if it was ever comming to the US. I am not too particularly the kind of person who likes brain games, but I like the creative aproach this game is taking. I'll pick it up if all sounds good.

(can someone post screenshots? I am a bit too busy atm to do it on this slow computer of mine...)

my friend and I saw this at work today, and one simple question came up. Is this the same or a similar game to Intelligent Qube for the PS1? cause if it is, I might have to pick this one up.

It looks very similuar, but I have no clue. IGN needs to get off their collective asses and start reviewing games BEFORE they come, rather than 2 or 3 weeks later.

No, it's not Intelligent Qube. I saw it today and wondered the same thing. Here's a few review links at metacritic.com (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/psp/pqpracticalintelligencequotient).

It's from the same creators that made I.Q, just a different take on it. I bought the import version (intelligent license), not knowing this was coming to the US also. I plan to get the US version this weekend, and thanks prepster for letting us know it's a best buy. I was wondering if it was going to be there.

FYI - if you're curious about version software...I hear this requires 2.50.

So how is it?

It's a pretty fun game, lots of puzzles to solve. Only played for a good 30 min. But is pretty addicting. Btw you do need 2.5 to play this.

No you don't! :D

Get this program and run it with Eboot loader -- http://pspupdates.qj.net/2005/12/pspsetx-v02-for-v20-psp.html

I hear it works perfectly. I'm about to go pick this game up.

You cant review something before it comes out. You can only "preview" it.

this game is out. just got it and can confirm that the program I just posted works perfectly to play it on a 2.0 psp. I hope this prog works with all the other 2.5 games (especially SFA3)

but press always gets an early version of the release game, so in some ways they can review it before it's out.

yikes, this game has some bad control issues. sucks when you know exactly how to solve something but the janky controls prevent you from doing so. trading it in tomorrow...

what do u mean by janky controls?!?!

u mean like, something w/ the gameplay?

or the fact dat the PSP D-pad itself sucks.

coz I sold freakin tony hawk which was an awesome game, but impossible to play on the PSP pad...

they needa market the street fighter alpha dpad as a seperate item for reals.

EDIT: o yeah, and I saw dat PSP Set X thing also, it tempted me to go 2.0 earlier this week jus for the hell of it!!

but... it will all depend on the firmware requirements for Winning Eleven and Generation of Chaos, the ONLY 2 games dat look real good

so... NO 2.6!!!

Too bad that dpad sucks, and it GLUES onto your PSP dpad... then the glue wears off, the dpad falls off, and you have sticky crap all over the original dpad.

The above was taken from a few first hand accounts.

Jekki-- by janky, I mean they are not very responsive and you always end up making bad moves because of it. they take a second to respond, and sometimes buffer your
button presses and make you do an extra move. also some of the obstacles are tough to navigate because of it. I'm halfway through the game and I still can't figure exactly how to get off of a moving walk way (which are a major obstacle.) I usually just get to the end of it, jam the buttons and hope for the best.
part of it may be the d-pad, i'm not sure.

and PSPsetX is a great program! All I've done is pressed one button to trick the firmware and I haven't even had to open it since. hopefully it'll get an update when the new firmwares come out. is 2.6 out yet? I know SFA3 and Exit will use 2.5 firmware, haven't heard about anything else yet.

That's very disappointing to hear, though I had a feeling that would be the case. guess the only way is to go is the dpad mod.

I didn't even know this game existed until two days ago. My mother, a big gamer, picked it up from Costco. Like me, she's been disappointed by the software for the PSP thus far. She liked it a lot, so I went and got myself a copy. What I love about it is that it strips everything out to it's most basic form. The graphics are plain jane. Nothing fancy. The objectives are very un-videogameish. Think of it as a modern version of Boxxle or Adventures of Lolo. Now, I *hated* Boxxle (aka Shove It!! for the Genesis), but I actually dig this game. All you do is figure out how to move your man from point a to point b. But it's not that simple. You have to move, push, carry, and pull boxes around a board so that you can get to the exit. No other objectives. Just get to the exit.

But sometimes you have to avoid being caught by guards. Sometimes you have to move the boxes to block laser beams. The varity is amazing, considering the simple objective of getting to the exit.

I highly recommend it. And I know PSP owners are desperate for good games right now.
