I've always wanted to play import fighting games but it seems too much of a hassle, hopefully PS3 will be like the PSP and not be region encoded. If PS3 will allow us to play PS1, PS2, and PS3 import games on the system, I'll probably buy it on launch.

To play imports on your PS2, there are 2 main ways. Using swapmagic discs or modchips.

I use swapmagic discs and a fliptop lid for my slim ps2. A fliptop is basically a replacement case, or part of the case for your ps2. It allows you to open and close a door over the drive and remove/replace discs without resetting your ps2.

Type 'ps2 swapmagic' or 'ps2 fliptop' into google and you'll find some sites that have what you need.

Just dont pirate! I only use my fliptop and swapmagic discs to play import ps2 wrestling games.

Im actually a reformed pirate. In college I was broke so I pirated SNES games and later PS1 games. And now Im buying legitimate copies of all those games I used to pirate!

You guys forgot the third way:

HDLoader and memory card exploit. Easiest way to go with the least potential for harm.

Then you have to track down a $100 HDD, which can be difficult.

Can someone elaborate on this because I already have the Hard Drive and have been debating on if I should buy HDLoader?

Any IDE HDD will work. I use a 200 Gig HD I bought on black friday last november for $30. It is easier to work with HDs that are 120 gigs and less, and 40-80 gig HDs are going for $30-$50 anymore.

I use an Action Replay to load a bit of programing on to my memory card. I then use a (specific) playstation 1 game to trigger the program on my memory card. From there, I can run many different programs, including but not limited to HDLoader, various formatters, disc swapers, FTPs and other good stuff.

This doesn't let you play or copy burned or import games, but you can put the disc image on to the HD through other means.

I'm not sure what I can and cannot write down in the forum, so I'll leave you with this.

Actually I was thinking the same thing. I read it somewhere that PS3 will not have region scheme for games, just like PSP. However, it's not clear if PS3 will simply ignore the region coding on PS1/PS2 games and let you play imports though.
