I'd like to note that the DS is sold out nearly everywhere in Japan for half of last week and is still in short supplies for this week and will most likey continue to be in short supplies this week.;) (Sorry, but I'm not to big on the PSP so I had to say this. Just look at the software sales!)
Embarrassing: Xbox 360's numbers. Dang, they're not even giving the system a chance... DoA4 barely helped, which was fairly shocking.

I read on joystiq that the DS units ran out in Japan. Not sure how true that is.

I don't think anybody is really surprised that the 360 is doing bad... but rather, they're surprised at how bad it's doing.
And yes, DS units did sell out on the 5th of January in Japan.

Yep, the PSP is on top this week (and that's mainly due to a DS shortage). But the DS has been absolutely creaming the PSP (and everything else) for like 2+ months now. And during most of that time, it was by at least a 3-to-1 ratio. Over the whole year, the DS outsold PSP by nearly 2-to-1.
And look at that top 10 game list. 8 out of ten are for DS (and almost all are Nintendo-published)...and another one of them is for GBA.
I'm not being a fanboy, so don't say anything, but really, those are amazing sales figures. It's a hell of a good way for Nintendo to start off the year. They were the #1 publisher in Japan, sales-wise, for 2005. The DS is really riding a wave right now, and with the Revo and, of course, Zelda on the way, I predict a good year for the Big N. Yay! I was getting bored of seeing all the top lists full of PS2 stuff.

That's what they said about the PS2 when DVD players were $500 and the PS2 was $299.99.
We all know how that turned out.
If this doesn't show Nintendo shouldn't leave the console businesss for handheld pastures I don't know what will.
I digress though, I think the PS3 price point is going to sell millions upon millions of Revolutions.

Yeah I already know. If you click the link I posted on the first post that proves I'm not making up the numbers they say that. Also I kind of feel bad for the PSP right now so I thought maybe I'd cheer them Sony fanboys up for a sec before I crush their hopes.

Sony fanboys please shut up.
- Nintendo was the number 1 publisher in Japan in 2005.
-Thay have a multitude of games on the gamecube that are million and a couple even 2+ million games sold.
- They have something like 8-10 billion dollars in savings according to Forbes or something financial magazine.
-There once time rival Sega has proven that becoming a 3'd party is not profitable.
And thats just off the top of my head. Nintendo is even quoted as saying they'll close up shop and just stop making games before they stop making hardware.
IN SHORT they will not get out of the hardware race in any catagory. Whether thats good or bad. Period.
Sorry, but this isn't gamefaqs or some other stupid board. Lets try to act like we have more maturity then pre-schoolers. And I don't mean this thread too much but a lot of the ones i've been in lately have been over the top.

That's what I was thinking. Almost every reply to this thread has been some "DS PWNZ d00d!!!!" type bullshit. I love my DS and have like 15 games for it, but the Nintendo fanboys need to chill the fuck out. The DS sold 1934856393648 units in Japan over the holidays, we get it already.

I almost said something about PAD saying that these numbers suggest that Nintendo should get out of the home console business and stick to handhelds. But I didnt feel like it.

Agreed. Go have your Nintendo-induced orgasms else where please. Don't get me wrong, I like all three companies, but seriously, fanboyism? Why can't you just be a gamer and love them all for doing what they do?
I love my PSP but the lack of software is killin' my experience. I just think Sony needs a lil more time to get their act together and DS will start to see some stiff competition.
DS is owning PSP in terms of software yeah. As of right now. The future is unpredictable.

It's the threads i've been seeing in general. They make me annoyed so i'm sorry if I sounded random or fanboyistic or whatever.
Anyway the PSP should be fine in the future. A lot of RPG's are coming for it for people who like that at least. the only other names i've heard are ports, or things i'm not interested in like Daxter. BUT with the 4-8 GB memory sticks coming out and the extended battery life you get from no UMD reading my psp will become a portable TiVo/Movie player. I won't need any games.

4-8 gb memory stick pro duo.
That's nice
but dumb.
You'd be better off spending more money on a dedicated mp3 video player. A 4 gb memory card will not be cheap and combined with the intial purchase price of a PSP will push it out of the price range of the typical mp3/video players. Although there are games to fall back on of course.
These little numbers don't mean anything. It would be hella sad if the PSP wasn't on top when the DS is in such short supply. We'll see what happens in 06, where the PS3 and Rev show off their connectivity with their little handheld brothers.

Nintendo will never and should never get out of the console market. Why would you leave the console market when you are still making good money from it?
Most of the complaints I hear from people are normally X-Box fanboys who get pissed because Nintendo takes away sales from "their" system.

Can't the PSP also play ROMs of games for the SNES and systems with lower system specs? That's another advantage the PSP has over a dedicated mp3/videoplayer.
I agree with you that the numbers don't mean anything since the DS is pretty much sold out everywhere, especially since almost all of the top ten games are DS games.

Meh. Being able to play old SNES games on a PSP isn't exactly a huge selling point for me, considering that the Revolution is supposed to be able to download from Sega and Nintendo's libraries.
Kind of ironic situation Sony is in, here. Nonetheless it's good to see the DS totally dominating.

Is there anything else that has a screen as nice as the psp?
That and I have a brother in the area who will gladly split the costs of a 8 GB duo stick. Or even buy one himself and I can borrow it.
