I was wondering has anyone been able to take the HD out of an Xbox and been able to use it for their PS2?

I believe it's a standard IDE HD. It should work, but all depends on the application. I'm not sure if it can be used with FFXI.

I already own Final Fantasy XI with HD but I have an Xbox that doesn't work anymore and was wondering if I could take the HD out of it and use it to put HDLoader on it and use with my second PS2.

I know one brand of the Xbox hard drives don't fit into the PS2 without modifications.

If you Xbox doesn't boot, I don't think you will be able to use it because you need to get the eeprom from the Xbox and unlock the HD to be able to use it for anything else.

Xbox hard drives are only 8GBs. If you're willing to rape this system you're better off trading it to someone for an 80GB+ drive.

If an Xbox can recognize the HD, a Windows PC should be able to recognize it as well. Just need to head into disc management and format it to whatever you want, or just delete the partition.

That being said, people swap out old Xbox HDs with regular IDE HDs. I don't see why you can't use an Xbox HD in regular IDE HD applications.

xbox hd's get 'locked' to the xbox motherboard they come with...you can NOT use them in any other device unless you have the eeprom to unlock the HD first (yes even with disk management system)..there are other ways of 'unlocking' the HD from your xbox, but most ways are way too pricey for a 8 to 10gig HD or involve the 'forbidden modding of xbox' (at least here on this board)

www.xbox-scene.com check the forums and tutorials section...I don't know of any way to change out the HD except with using a mod chip or de-soldering the actual eeprom off etc...
