After reading a topic about people getting their Gamecubes when they first came out. I was wondering how many dorks out there waited outside or inside a store the day before your system of choice came out?
I personally waited at a local walmart. I remember having a friend save my spot and I went to like 3 or 4 different stores because some places were selling games early while others were selling controllers. It was actually pretty fun chattin it up with old school gamers about the Big N. Then some douche of an employee said something about a special edition cube and eveyone got excited, but then somebody said there wasnt anything. Good times but a long night oh well I was playing my cube a good 8 hours or so before anyone even got theirs.

Cube i got for X-mas the year it came out, Xbox was about a year later, and i JUST got a PS2.
I did get my N64 and Mario 64 6 days early :) I had that game beat with all stars before most people even had a system :) Hey, for that time, it was the coolest thing ever.

I personally never have done that, but I plan to this time around.
I dunno, I usually tend to wait after the first wave of price cutbacks before going off and buying a new console.
I got the Xbox at $200.
Won my first PS2 in a raffle, then bought my second one from my brother for $50.
Then, I bought my Cube from my brother for about $80.

I went to Walmart the the night the Xbox came out and waited in line. They set up benches for us and handed out free snack cakes and sodas. I think I was 7th or 8th in line to get one.
Walked into TRU and snagged one of the last jet GameCubes the day it came out, but it was later in the afternoon, no waiting.

The only systems I've waited outside the gate for were my Dreamcast and Xbox. I also picked up my PS2 on launch day, but I worked at the EB that morning, so I didn't get to wait outside. The gamecube just didn't get me excited so I waited a whole month to pick one up. I figure you pay $50 a year to own a system, so I might as well play the best games as soon as possibe. I think this poll could be revised to say which systems did you pick up on launch day, but still interesting non the less and I always hate when I make a poll and someone criticizes it over something nitpicky. I'm surprised no one asked why you didn't include the GBA.

I've never waited in line to get a console. The only console I ever pre-ordered was the N64, but I didn't pick it up until a couple of days after release.
I managed to get the last PS2 in-stock from K-Mart about a month or so after it came out. I also got the last Xbox from Wal-Mart about a month after it's release.
Never bothered with a GameCube until a friend gave me one.

I did the day after Thanksgiving Walmart run for a Gamecube at like 88 bones. I prefer "geek" personally.
Oh yeah, I got my SP the day it came out, but no one in my area gave a damn about it so no hassle.

I got my GBA a day early, and I picked up a Dreamcast at launch. PS2 I got after a year, Cube I got after 6 months, and Xbox I got when it dropped to $200.

Never waited for any system. I think the only one I have ever even got on launch day was the dreamcast. Generally, I pay full price for one system per generation and wait for price drops on the rest. This round I paid full price for the PS2.

I did pre-order a Dreamcast and pick it up the day it came out. For PS2, GC and Xbox, I pre-ordered online and had them shipped overnight so I got them the day after launch. I hate lines.

I was electronics manager at K-Mart when the Dreamcast came out. No waiting for me, I just hid one in the storeroom to pick up whenever I wanted to.

I voted none. I was working in a game store when GameCube came out and thus got mine several days early without waiting at all 8)

None, but I bought my GBA SP on launch day. I waited for price drops for every system I own except for my gameboys.

Waiting in a freezing San Francisco line at the Metreon for my PS2, waited in a balmy Santa Monica morning for my Xbox and GC. Worth it...if you bleed for it, you tend to appreciate it more.

I haven't waited for anything on launch. That'll probably change with PSP or Halo 2 whenever they come out.

I didn't wait from any stores to get my systems. In 2001, my cousin worked at a Future Shop in Canada and managed to get me a PS2 (along with a couple of games) for about $250 american. As for my Xbox, I won it in a random drawing from ReadySetGamer.com back in February.

I would say a dork is someone who goes beyond the normal to get something first, or do it best. Take for instance the people here that wait in line for a day (or hours) just to get their hands on a console before the others. They have been waiting a while, So what is the rush? These people want it first before anyone else. Or, a dork could be that person who beat Super Mario Brothers 3 in 11 minutes (i will admit the movie is an entertaining affair) there really is no need to beat it that fast, but he (or she) felt the need to do it.
