It all depends, if you bought it with cash or a credit card...

typically if you buy something with cash and it is under $100 dollars then you would have to find your receipt, but since most likely the gamecube with tax was over $100 they should of asked for your phone number and name. Just go there and then tell them you lost your receipt and if they could look it up for you , and they should have all the purchases listed for anything that was purchased with the same phone number over $100.

If you paid for it with a credit card, bring the card back to the store and see if they can trace the purchases made with the card.

Only one way to find out, take it for the team, shit your pants and dive in.

What's the worst thing they can do, besides punch you in the face.

From the Circuit City website [applies online and B&M]:

We want to make sure you’re completely satisfied with anything you buy from us. If you’re not completely satisfied with a Product, Circuit City will gladly exchange or refund your purchase within 30 days of the sale date—no hassles. Because of rapid changes in technology, the return period for digital cameras, camcorders, PCs and related products (monitors, printers, scanners) is 14 days.

For exchange or full refund of a Product, we need the order confirmation or record of purchase in our system. The Product must be in its original condition, including the box, packaging and all accessories. Opened software, music CDs, games and movies can only be exchanged for the same title.

Credits will only be issued to the credit card used for the original purchase. For merchandise purchased with a gift card as the sole payment method, we will refund the balance due to you back to a new gift card unless the balance is less than $5 or prohibited by law. See “Mail Refund” section below for refund information for merchandise returned via mail.

We reserve the right to limit the number of returns permitted.

So it looks like you're in the clear. Like someone said, they can look you up in the computer if you don't have your receipt. So they may or may not give you cash. You'll just hafta go down to the store and find out! Good luck.

...might be kinda hard to prove his purchase is in the computer without a receipt.

This is true. If anything all he's gonna get is a credit.

Some places can look it up via the serial code, however I do not know if CC does this

Yeah, much better to have an extra gamecube that you aren't going to use than $100 worth of store credit that you can use towards anything they sell. </sarcasm>

You lost your receipt... you aren't actually upset that they only offered you store credit, are you?

Why didn't you take it? You could use it to buy games, especially cheap games!

Normally I think they keep all of their sales for a period of time. I lost my receipt when I bought multiple Xbox games just to find out I could have gotten one cheaper elsewhere, so I took it back and since I didn't have my receipt I told them when I bought it and what else I bought to confirm that it was mine and I got cash back (since I payed with cash). This seemed like a long time ago (definitley not more than a year though) so I am not sure if the rules are still the same.

Would they let me return a DVD (8 Heads in a Duffel Bag) I bought from them a couple weeks ago, provided it's in perfect condition (but opened) and I have the receipt? Or does anyone here wanna buy it from me?

So, if they did allow this, who would go out of business first, Circuit City, or Blockbuster?
