I've only loosely followed the latest GF 'contest' atrocity, but today I was bored and looked in on the standings. I know it's been talked to death, but if ever you needed proof that GameFAQs is a breeding ground for Nintendo/Square whores, this contest is it.

The last complete round has the following games:
9 Nintendo games (counting Goldeneye and Tetris)
5 Square games
plus Metal Gear and StarCraft. That's out of 16 games total.

The previous round saw 15 Nintendo games and 9 Square games out of a total of 32.

It's sad that the kids over there think Mario, Zelda and Final Fantasy are the end-all be-all of video games.

On the bright side, this means there is probably a market for my 'official' Super Mario RPG Butt Plug and 'official' Squaresoft Dogshit in a Shoebox.

You can get a good look at a Tbone by sticking your head up a butcher's ass... no wait you can get a good look at a butcher's ass, no wait it's got to be your bull.

The contest jumped the shark when it was held at GameSpotFAQs.

Did anyone really have any doubts that the contest would boil down to OoT vs. FF7?

edit: I just looked at the bracket and oh nos!!1!1 they won't get to meet in the finals. I guess it will be Chrono Trigger vs. whichever fanboy army is bigger between Link and Cloud.

That'll be tough to pull off since FF7 and OoT are in the same division.

I hope it ends up being two Zelda games or two FF games in the finals.

Is there a point to this topic? It's obvious you don't like the direction GameFAQs is heading, yet you still go there and you still talk about it. Furthermore, what does affiliating with GameSpot have ANYTHING to do with the Contest? Last time I checked, it was the USERS who select which games should win.

I'm curious...why are you so upset that I dislike the GameFAQs redesign? Why do you post on topics that are blatantly complaining about GameFAQs?

And btw, if you had read my original post, I mentioned that I was bored and decided to check in on the progress of the contest. The daily poll was one of the things I liked about GF, though I hate that they lose it for 3 months for this 'contest'.

Chill out.

I was confussed to see Goldeneye beat Castlevania SOTN. Goldeneye was a good First Person Shooter, but Castlevania is almost one of a kind. They don't make games like SOTN for consoles anymore.

The Super Mario RPG beating Street Fighter 2 was pretty lame.

i was pretty astonished when SF 2 lost to SMRPG, my bracket sucks.

It was really really fu(kin lame, it's like if two weeks before you were talking with people about what one of the lamest things that could possibly happen during the contest would be, that would be it.

Because you hurt my feelings.

A few points I feel compelled to make:

1) Super Mario RPG is one of the best RPGs ever made, up there with Chrono Trigger and all the FFs.
2) Castlevania SOTN deserved to go all the way to the final few. Goldeneye was a good game, but not that good.
3) The contest sucks.

On a side note, how is a proven, addictive classic like Tetris being beaten by an outdated Zelda game 75% to 25%? :?[/i]

In that case, I better shut down Photoshop before things get nasty.

If you meant Chrono Trigger was one of the most overrated RPGs ever made, then yes, I agree with you.

So, The Cheapest Ass Gamer, are you saying that Super Mario RPG sucks? I know Final Fantasy sucks azz, but I've never played Chrono Trigger, so I can't make the connection by myself.

There's going to be a massive tie for first place, I bet. This wasn't really a difficult contest to pick winners from. The only thing that's surprised me so far was Vice City losing to SSBM.

SMRPG was fun, but rather hokey.. just like paper mario. Great for an rpg gracing a nintendo system these days, but hardly as good as earthbound.

The contest jumped the shark when Super Mario RPG beat out Street Fighter II.

I kinda just ignored it after that happened. I have no idea who won or lost after that. Street Fighter 2 is the grand-daddy of 2D fighting and did much more for the genre. SMRPG is just another game in the masses.

Know what's even funnier than the contest? The posts on the boards about "OMG game x cannot lose to game y EVERYONE VOTE".

I have saved $$$ by using their faqs, and I think it's awesome that so many people write such helpful info for free, but their message boards are insane (and yet somehow, one of the internet's better guilty pleasures, in the morbid "so bad I have to look" sense).

Out of curiosity, which games do you think should have been on there?

When Suikoden 2 was beat by such a wide margin by FF7 I knew the site was flooded with Square fans. I'm just glad Starcraft went as far as it has went, but the top 8 will be all square versus nintendo. They should had a game or character contest like this at IGN or something.

That contest sucks, I had MGS2 going all the way, but SSBM beat it in the first round.

Some of the games that were in the initial running should not have been eliminated. Some games (TIE Fighter, The Sims, Command & Conquer) were not even mentioned. Games in a series (Mario, Zelda, FF, etc) should get one entry. Hell, have mini-polls to determine which game will be representative of the series.

My point is that if you conducted a similar poll anywhere else, you would see vastly different results. I've never seen Kingdom Hearts, Chrono Trigger, or Super Mario RPG ever listed anywhere else when discussing the best games ever.

You should have checked out Gamespy's contest when it was running. The results were much more balanced, I think.
