he didnt read the job description. he later saw he had to do player evaluation for the draft and he didnt think he could do that. he thought he was gonna have the team president label and just do promotional stuff he guessed wrong.

Marino is a piece of crap. I even hated him while he was playing for the dolphins.

The organization was doing him a favor and he threw it in their face so screw him.

I hate him cause even though, when he was at the end of his career, he wouldn't just hand the team over to a QB that had more mobility than a snail. I believe he overstayed his welcome at the QB position and he was only left there cause he broke a lot of records and people felt that he deserved a shot even though he sucked.

I personally think that Paterno has earned the right to stay however long he likes.

I also dont remember Marino ever being that horrible for an extended period of time.

school is too scared to fire him or have him step down. they think hey owe him for being great. i think joe owes the school and he should retire. penn state football program has been down the drain in the past 5 years. joe's gon senile

Yeah, but he never brought that Lombardi trophy home, and the Jaguars put the cap on his career with that 62-7 rout (http://espn.go.com/nfl/1999/20000115/recap/miajac.html) in the playoffs back in 2000.

Ah...those were the glory days. Go Jags!

And exactly what would Joe owe Penn State? He is the one that put them on the map.

Wow, that's pretty harsh. Team presidents really are just figureheads that do promo stuff and manage the financial aspects of an organization. Maybe he actually wanted to have a hand in the shaping of the team but realized that as president he'd have no real influence like a GM would. I wouldn't be suprised to see him do something like head coaching within the next 10 years.

And as far as Marino bringing home the Lombardi trophy, I dont see them bringing it home with him gone now either, and thats with a good RB and a All Pro defense.

dont get me wrong joe is one of the greatest coach in college history. but i think its time for him to realize that its time to move on he's like 75 years old. The program hasnt been on par last five years and he has lost out on recruits. he gone crazy last few years going after refs he didnt do that earlier in his career he's gone senile.

back to the topic. imagine dan marino if he had a defense and a running back as the dolphins do now.

I do agree that Joe is nowhere near what he was. I just don't think I could be the guy that tells him to clean out his desk and be out of the office by 5 because his services are no longer required at a program that he built to the heights he took it. I hope he gracefully steps down, but I cannot blame Penn St for not getting rid of him. They owe a lot to Joe Paterno, and sometimes there are more important things than a few years of football dominance. I think its a far better move to show class and dignity in this situation, even if it means the program takes a hit for a few years.

Marino sucks because he ran Jimmy out of town

also Paterno had a top 25 team not too long ago and he can still do a good job.

you got a point. anyways aint nobody available good enough to take over the program. unless spurrier wants to coach in the cold weather.

Let Marino do what he's good at, like starring in movies(Ace Ventura) and selling those gloves.

And I remember him fondly as a hated man in Buffalo, but then jerks like Bryan Cox came to town and took that role over. At least he was a decent person, as he did charity work with Jim Kelly for his son. Cox can still burn in hell.
