Not sure where to put this, it's also a rant on portable games up and disappearing.

Went to three Best Buy's and didn't find this, after knowing a few weeks ago they were stocked to the brim on this title. At the last one, my gf asks the employee about it, and he tells her that it's been discontinued, and clearanced?

Why do these games disappear so fast?

Nah, he was really nice (surpringsly), even checked the back and everything. I believe him when he said it was discontinued, not that it was clearanced though.

It just seems weird that ALL the Best Buy's here had about 8 copies after christmas, and now it's disappeared from every store (Best Buy, EB, Gamestop, etc)

they probably moved all their merchendise out to the online branch or wherever it sells more... I'm sure they're still around, but who knows... maybe they stopped printing/making these...

Yes it is discontinued, or at least that is what the computer at gamestop says. I saw it a week ago and went out to pick up a copy ASAP because I'd been wanting to play it.

Yeah I heard it had been discontinued too. My BB didnt have it either so I had to order it from EBGames.com

I have learned from owning a DS that if their is a game that looks somewhat appealing to you buy it right away wether or not you can afford it. If you don't like it, it will sale on ebay for $50 bucks.

Unless Game Quest Direct decides to make a deal with the developers for a reprint of the game.

That's the absolute worst thing about portable games. If you don't get it when it's in stores new, tough. 2nd would be that getting them used complete is a game of luck. Pisses me off that it's just impossible to get older GBA games from ebgames or gamestop. Well, at least DS games are somewhat easy to find complete used. I believe Gamecrazy has Lost in Blue for 17.99 used.

What's crazy is that the EB's / GS's here have a ton of DS games that are just cart only, same with PSP games... it really boggles the mind.

I can see people throwing away GBA boxes, but DS / PSP boxes?? It's almost like throwing out ps2 / xbox cases.

I always assumed that so much portable garbage gets shoveled out that it pushes the good stuff off the shelves that much sooner.

I love walking into the store and not only seeing loose copies of Castlevania: DoS but also used copies w/box. This wouldn't be odd if it wasn't for the fact that the boxed one, for some strange reason, cost $5 less. Who am I to argue?
But seriously...wow. And in some stores people are returning the game and manual and yet they're tossing the DS cases. What? Why? Whatever for? It's insanity, if you ask me. Considering my loose MK: DS cart from my DS package I'd gladly toss a dollar or two to someone just for their case if they're going to throw it out!

This is too bad to hear actually. This is definitely one of the best titles on the system. Think of it like Harvest Moon on an island where you're always about to die.

All the adventure titles that are on the DS have such wonderful quality to them. I've always not been a fan of the genre when it was on the PC, maybe their portability has made them more accessible. I always find it pleasant to solve a puzzle between breaks and bus trips.

Everyone go find/buy/hunt for Trace Memories, Phoenix Wright, and Lost in Blue right away! Before the collector's start to hoard them! This is probably the best chance to revive the genre that we will ever have.

Why do these games disappear so fast?

These games must not be selling that well if they're getting discontinued by 3rd parties... i'm surprised Lost in Blue and Phoenix Wright have gone the way of the dodo... i didn't think they'd be million sellers but I thought they would sell moderately well.

These games are so unique, they should have a big enough niche audience to justify keeping them on store shelves... but i guess not.

I saw a few Lost in Blue after Xmas, but they've all dissapeared in the last couple of weeks... i went to look for this game today but had to settle for Tony Hawk Sk8land for DS.

I feel your pain.

IMO, skateboarding begins with Rodney and ends with Lester. To this day I hate Lester.

I demand a remake of the Jousting event for modern times!

The game wasn't that good anyway, in my opinion.

Thanks to NPD/Gaf for these numbers-- up to December.
49. Lost in Blue | 47,483
62. Trace Memory | 28,757
67. Phoenix Wright | 25,969

The game wasn't that good anyway, in my opinion.

I can see where this opinion would come from, after all it starts off with probably its hardest section. The characters are also pretty forgettable.

What I did like however, is that it really did give the sense of "survival" on a desert island. You have to set up camp, gather provisions, make sure you can stay alive for awhile.

I like that you sort of get a cycle going once you get into it. You spend your time gathering food and supplies to make sure you're set for adventure day. You really need to be absolutely sure you are ready or else you may not come back. The oppressive nature of the game really lends weight to everything you do. The sense of accomplishment when you make small steps of progress is really quite wonderful.

I had a hard time finding this as well. Thankfully my sister found it and got it for me for Christmas. I'm enjoying it so far but haven't had the chance to play it in a couple weeks. I remember seeing a bunch of copies at the local TRU (never at Target) and then they were gone. I'm not surprised it's being discountinued. So many games have come out for the DS since its release, I think it's hard for people to keep up. Different games such as this have a difficult time finding an audience.

Yeah, how someone can trade in just a DS game... I have no idea. I don't even know how you would avoid losing your games if you didn't keep the cases.

I bought Lost in Blue about two months ago when it was still at BB, but ended up selling it for $20 profit after reading review after review that made it sound too tedious. I think Animal Crossing is about as close to the games that represent daily tedium as I can get. I have only found that marginally entertaining so far (haven't had time to play it a lot though). It's kinda like how I don't like the Sims, you have to spend too much time doing required tasks to do anything else. Just too many great DS games to put $20-$30 down on a game that you may or may not enjoy.

That being said, I'll probably pick it up cheaper used one of these days just to see if I missed anything. I'll check out my BB next time I'm there if anyone wants me to find a copy for them.

Oh, and it goes beyond Lost in Blue:
Castlevania DoS: Store Pickup: Not Available
Dig Dug Digging Strike: Store Pickup: Not Available

It's like BB is carrying as few DS games as they can.

What's up with all the DS games in such short supply? First Tramua Center, then Phoenix Wright, and now this?

Roufuss
01-20-2006, 11:08 AM
I'm just wondering where all those copies at Best Buy went... one store literally had about 10 copies the week after Christmas. I can't imagine that such a rush went out for this game.

Vinny
01-20-2006, 11:11 AM
Maybe someone got word of it being discontinued and decided to scoop up all the copies? It may be hard to believe... but some people really don't have lives.

Chances are, that's what happened... maybe that BB sold 1 or 2 copies to people with legitimate playing interest but the rest probably went to some guy who it it go for much higher than it's retail price.

right around christmas it was going for almost $60 on ebay. I am surprised to read you found it at all at the store after xmas..

Castlevania will probably be the same as well as the others mentioned.

The fact that this is happening during the DS's life is just sad. Games should never have to be worth this much during a system's life span. I swear, portable gaming is incredibly stressful! ;)

When I worked at K-Mart, we never even received Lost in Blue or Phoenix Wright, so this may be YMMV depending on store location and video game sales.

I know there is one K-Mart here that gets games none of the other 5 stores got because it was in a prime location and did really good sales.

Yeah, I have a ton of GBA games you can't find in the stores any more. Stuff like street fighter, gradius galaxy & doom. Like someone else said, with portables you can't be too picky about getting deals. Some times you have to just pay the money and pick the game up before it vanashes.

A friend of mine that works at the local EB also told me that the ATV game for DS is out of print and real hard to find, take that how you will.

Roufuss, If i see a complete copy in my travels you want me to pick it up for you? Cost plus shipping not a cent more. I figure I owe you for all the good stuff i got at Kmart

Well, it's available on EB's website... I really wanted to nab it for $20 from Best Buy, this way if I didn't like it I could at least get my money back in the secondhand market.

I definately appreciate the offer, even though I have to decline :D

Edit: Found it tonight at a closing TRU, came to be $23.99 after the 20% off.

This is one of the few DS titles I don't own yet. Hopefully Best Buy has it in stock so I can use the $10 coupon before it expires. I've got 37 DS games...bought pretty much everything except the sport titles (no interest), Ping Pals, and the racing games. I may grab those eventually if I get them cheap enough just to have a full set.

Yeah, I had thought about the $10 coupon. (Sears has no games here.) I was late to the DS, and I was thinking of Lost in Blue when I saw this. I'm definitely going to return it, since my BB (probably) has this game.

Bought it for $20 and look forward to playing it.

If you can't find it in your local area and still want to nab it, I'd hop on the ebgames.com listing. There's only 7 copies left (I just broke down and got one)...

I also saw one used at Gamecrazy for $19.99... I almost bought it and considered getting a MVP card to drop the price to $17.99.

Luckily, I decided to wait one more day to think about it.. and luckily, that next day I found a new copy at BB.
