Saw this pic at a vg trade website I am a member of:

I think it looks like a re-designed DS, held by none other than Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime at a recent press conference. What do you guys think?

Well, it's not the same old DS for one thing. Maybe a little smaller... with that picture it's hard to tell much of a difference.

...I zoomed 'er in to get a better look. Anyone see something new?

Thats a pretty craptacular re-design...
Im sure it would be all over the net if there really was a new unveiled DS.

I think you wasted my time. It looks just like the early versions of the DS.

Here were my observations:
1) Black around both screens go to the edges, and maybe wraps around a bit.
2) Top and bottom halves look more symmetric.
3) Screen opens at a different angle (although it may not be fully opened).

Hey, I thought CAG was "all over the net." Besides, it has to start somewhere, so CAG might as well get another scoop.
As for the re-design, I suppose it's possible that my eyes are wanting to see something there that isn't. The article did not state that it was a re-design, but it looks different to me.

I had not seen that original E3 design before. (I think it looks better than the final version they went with.) But why would Nintendo trot that version out to a press conference when they could use a production model? Maybe it was an old stock photo... Usually they are labeled as such, but this one wasn't. Oh well, if that's all it is then sorry I "wasted everyone's time."

Maybe the joke's on all of us and the rumored DS Redesign Announcement scheduled for Jan. 17 is actually the resurrection of the original concept design?

Well, CAG in general is a waste of my time. :D
And, yes, that is a very old photo. Someone (maybe ign?) has closer comparisons of the original E3 demo unit versus the production DS and the final one, the one we got, is much sleeker. Don't get me wrong, I think we will eventually see a redesign since Nintendo likes to redesign their handhelds but I doubt we will see anything prior to E3.

Don't worry about people giving you crap. You were, in fact, wrong ... but your effort and willingness to share is appreciated.

while that will probably not be the redesign, wasn't it reported that an announcement on a new design will be coming shortly

Dane.Because there wasn't a production model. The concept was publicly announced February of 2004. They showed a concept design at e3 2004 (where this picture came from). Everyone complained how bulky and generic it looked and felt (Reggie is a huge man, don't let the photo fool you). So they redesigned it for the launch in November 2004.

It was rumored to be announced earlier this week, but Nintendo said they weren't announcing anything anytime soon the week before.
You all didn't know that was when the DS was FIRST revealed? It's no upcoming or future so DS, it was the as some may call it the beta version of the DS, so I hope you all wheren't hoping it was coming out. I did though hears plans of a new DS model coming eventually. When and even what it would look like is completly unknown but it may happen.
