OK, here's the deal. I am a graduate student studying communication, and I am currently working on a paper that I am going to present at a conference on how online CONSOLE video gaming has uniquely increased global connectedness among gamers. Specifically, I am going to be looking at the evolution of online console gaming (from simply playing together to chatting and the possibility of seeing and talking to one another, ranking systems, lobbys, etc.). The main focus of the paper will be Xbox live and the global community it is building, while I will also be looking at what the future might hold.

This is where you all come in. If anyone in here has read any interesting articles that you feel might be of importance/relevance to this paper, please post links (or scans of the articles if you can). I will be doing a good bit of research on the communication theory related aspects of this, but the videogame side is the hard part. There aren't really any academic databases that catalogue videogame magazines and/or websites.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Can you describe in a bit more detail the specific types of information you're looking for? I might be able to help you out a little bit but I need to know more about what you need.

It might help to see your current reference list as well so I can get a feel for your research interest.

Mykevermin posted this new gaming culture journal a little while ago. the first issue is free and you'll probably find some good info in it-- http://gac.sagepub.com/

as far as good articles in gaming publications go...i dunno man. mass media game journalism is really bad and unprofessional in my opinion and I wouldn't trust it to give me the time of day.

but here's a great blog about all kinds of stuff with some insightful gaming articles--http://www.secretlair.com/index.php?/clickableculture

and www.gamecritics.com could probably point you to some more stuff as well.

hope that helps!

if you're a graduate student at a reputable university, you should have access to online library resources, like infotrac. Just take a peak through them, first.

All the information I have is anecdotal. Please put a paragraph in your paper about how some people in the online "community" like to become racist, mysoginistic sums of bitches when they start to get their asses whooped on. It's almost become unbearable to play with strangers on Xbox live. Seems like every word that comes out of these kids mouths are bitch, ho, and $$$$a. Other than that, Xbox Live is the shit.

WoW/FF XI both made American gamers despise Asian gamers. :D

sure, add -ness to anything and voila, a noun.
