Just a heads up. I'm sure some of you puzzle fans, like me, saw UBP on the shelf and scoffed, since it looks like a PS1 budget title or something. I mean "Ultimate Block Party"? that's like naming a shooter "space invaders" or a game about avoiding pits "pit-fall."
in reality, the game is actually a good Panel de Pon/Tetris Attack clone with some Puzzle Fighter-like versus! Not only that but improves upon all those games by mixing it up with a bunch of special blocks.
I highly recommend it! If you're a big puzzle game fan and are sick of Lumines, the $30 is definitely worth it.

I got dat game as Kollon, it kinda sux.
like, even once u learn how to play sometimes u jus get messed up by the opponent
and then all u do is sit there and die.
I have yet to find a good way to make a comeback,
so it seems like once u get hit it's over unless the opponent gets lazy.
dies the american version at least offer 2 players support?

it's like puzzle fighter, you have to work fast and plan right so you can deal with the mess. some of the traps are hard to break out of, but it's not cheap...i've had plenty of matches go up to level 25 and later.
Single player mode is where it's at, I think...just cause it's like having an updated version of tetris attack.

no.
the difference between puzzle fighter/tetris attack and kollon is that u can take attacks to yourself to your advantage.
in TA if u notice your enemy making a big combo, u raise your stack to 75% so he drops the block on a lot of your blocks so u got some to work with
in puzzle fighter, u adjust your block placement accordingly to your opponent's attack for countering
in Kollon u jus straight up get screwed over, and only recover if u luck out.
the setups for this game arent even that advanced either,
u jus need to be fast since u got so much freedom to move things.
it's obvious that this game came from an arcade since a joystick seems more suitable to play this.
regardless, this game isnt that great at all

well, different puzzle games have different ways about them. it's a solid-puzzler, so i think it just depends on how far you get into it.
you have to work from the beginning of the match, by making big combos and saving special blocks, to fight off the crazy stuff in the later matches. it's UBP's form of planning colors in PFII. so there's a balance between when to use attacks, how high to raise your blocks, lining up combos and other elements involved. the cool thing is that each attack must be dealt with in its own way. if you work to slow or don't plan enough, you're going to get slammed fast by huge attacks, so you need to prevent things from happening. by doing that, you get some crazy long, tense matches.
meh, I enjoy it a lot, since it's different. I always like new takes on puzzle games. those looking for more action might like it better than lumines (which was also partially slammed for being too simplistic at first.)

i don't usually play puzzle games much, but i loved tetris attack, lumines, and puzzle fighter, so from what you're sayin I'll probablylikethis one :) when it hits $20 I'll probably pick it up.
anyone have a link to an official site?

OK i decided to play this game again jux for the hell of it, and I remember even more why I dont like it
I mean, it's fun for a minute but after that it's jus way too shallow.
like... so you've gotten matches up to level 25 or hella long,
when u think about it, that is actually real sad.
as a game of speed, the matches in this game could be decided in a minute, tops,
if not, it comes down to who will take advantage of the special arrow blocks and stuff first.
a long match jus means neither player was doing better than the other
and if these long matches are against the computer, dude, ure getting out gamed by some freakin AI
EDIT: ok, another stupid thing about this game is how every color makes a different attack.
so when u start the match, u raise your stack and what do u always go for? yellow!
every single time! a big yellow combo takes up about 4 of their lines blocked off definately making it much harder for them to create a combo as big as yours.
after that it's anything but blue... u should never go for blue

...but you're complaining about getting screwed over and saying that different colored blocks doing different attacks is cheap, so I don't think you're even beating the a.i.  so i see some depth to it and enjoy it and know how to play it, we agree to disagree!
