Wow, only 1 non-portable title in the top 10. (And only 2 non DS titles.)

LOL @ the SP selling over the 360.

MS will never crack the Japanese market I think.

Well how many 360's were sent over there in the first place anyways? Wasn't it like 150k? I think between last years sales and this year they only have like 30k left? Atleast MS doesn't have to worry about 360 production for Japan for awhile, so they can focus on other countries *cough* US *cough* Europe *cough*

They are. It was in Nintendo Power a couple of months back. I'm stoked!

I thought the "brain" games in Nintendo Power were some cheap knock-off of the Brain Training series. I'd have to look back though.

Yea, apparently they're going to include not one, but THREE of the Brain Training games on the first US release to gain some market share. A great move, in my opinion. :)

Source: Somewhere in Kotaku or Joystiq earlier this week. Too lazy to look for it.

BTW, expect to see even more DSes being sold once Lite hits the market. If the Japanese have an acute fondness for all things new, this should have no problem being a run-away smash.

man the 360 is still selling poorly. Is it still possible for MS to turn it around in Japan or should they just focus on the US and European markets now.

well, the xbox is considered crap in japan... I don't blame them. It's just that it has no solid base of games to shine at all, wheras msot other systems have a substantial amount of good titles.

Wow, I can't believe the PS2 is still in the top 3. Its pretty impressive since its selling so well after being out as long as it has.

Nintendo really turned themselves around. Even a GC game is in the top 10 there now.
I don't even remember when this happened. When did it go from "nintendo is lame and kiddy and sucks at salesl)($*!!11" to completely dominating the market? ;_;

Well there's been some pretty big releases over here recently, namely Kingdom Hearts 2 and FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus. So there's definitely good software to back up the system sales.

As for XBOX 360 or the old one, its just PATHETIC. Every store has no more than ONE tiny aisle (sometimes even HALF of ONE shelf) with XBOX games. Also, any store that sells 360's (at least in my part of Japan, I can't speak for everywhere) still has MOUNTAINS of them.

DS is THE system to have now. Yesterday I was picking up Bubble Bobble DS and New Rainbow Islands DS and I was kinda upset when some little kids started crying because the DS's were all sold out! Even games are selling out like crazy. I went to about 4 different stores over the weekend and didn't see ONE copy of Ouendan! I was also hoping to find the Biohazard special pack (w/DS case) but it was out everywhere too. D'oh.

Last Spring I think thanks to Nintendogs and Brain Training.

Those sales are amazing. No wonder Nintendo is making huge profits quarter after quarter.

I figured everyone and their grandmother probably has a PS2 in Japan now. I have to give props for Nintendo, nobody thought the DS would stand a chance against the PSP and it is thoroughly destroying the PSP in sales in Japan. Score a victory for innovative gameplay and good software releases. I hope Sony does something drastic like lower the price of the PSP and release higher quality games.

amazing how quality can actually win over a "cool" image in japan, unlike america..

Yeah, I agree. Especally when these great games were number one sellers in Japan for their release months:

Pokemon Box
Romancing Saga
Dynasty Warriors

Wow, I cann't believe that Nintendo dominated the charts and the DS seems to be a monster over there. I dont think MS will ever crack the Japenese market, I think they just want to get some of the Japenese game developers comitted to some 360 projects before they begin focusing on the Revolution and PS3.

The xbox will have to make some major improvements if it even wants to come close to making as much sales in Japan as sony and nintendo.
