Makai Kingdom

Pro
+More easier to level up

+You get to use "Bad Ass Overlord"

+More balance on Char Creation.(No more uber Majinn Class) and need second play through to at least get fast lvling up.

+Easier (Can be a good thing if your not a hardcore rpger, but bad if you are one)

+ Cheapier.
The game can be found at gamecrazy or gamestop for 17-27 used/new.While Disgaea cost around 40+ at most places, unless you took advantage of the Circuit City Clearance

Con
-Short for rpg for nippon iche. It takes about 25-30 hours to beat and 40-60 hours, depending you know the level trick like mana farm or food trick.

-must earn all special characters (laharl, zetta, yoshisama)

-less alternative ending(at least they tell you wither you got the bad or good ending)

-Must play the game several times with game+ to complete the game. You need the second play through to get an item called "box" to mana farm faster and lvl quicker. Also,in order to get all the Secret Char you need to beat the game at least 4-5,even if done correctly. For example, one chapter you can either get Zetta Girlfriend or Alex. Cnce you get the character the game will end right away and you have to restart over again in order to get the other char.

Disgaea

Pro
+Great story.Lots of comedy mixed with likable characters, good combination.

+Great cast of characters with charming personalities. Laharl,Pinnies,Etna,Flonne

+When Transmitgrate (transmitgrate is killing ones char to create a new character)
you stats building are stack unlike Makai Kingdom.

+Can get all the secret in one playthrough

+Better weapon creation and ability stats.

+Item dungeon is much better. Can get better items and uber item if you work throught all the floors, unlike Makai Kingdom

+more alternative ending

Con
-more expensive

-longer to beat about 35-45 to beat and 80+ hours to complete.I lost over 1 week playing this game.(can be a good thing or bad thing

-unbalance with the majinn class

Bottomline:If you like a shortier and cheapier game pick Makai Kingdom over Disgaea.

Disgaea is better in almost every aspect compare to Makai Kingdom, but cost a little more and extra time to beat.

It's your money you decide what's best for you.I personally recommend Disgaea instead.

Forget Makai Kingdom , Disgaea > Makai 10x. Disgaea owns thats all I have to say.

Makai Kingdom may be cheaper, but you'll more than get your money out of Disgaea. The main quest isn't much but you'll spend at least 100 hours just leveling up your fighters, this doesn't include the Item World, class upgrading, extra scenarios, and multiple endings.

The grid based system in Disgaea makes for a deeper game IMO.

I've never played a Nippon-Ichi game, but I'm considering it, and I need your help in deciding whether these NI games are right for me. First, a little about me:

1. I love Fire Emblem (loved the elegant dialogue, the animation style, the paper/rock/scissors gameplay, the well-written characters, the music).
2. I didn't care for Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (battles lacked impact, characters were too childish for my taste, job system was too complicated).
3. Humor is okay in small doses, but I prefer games that maintain a more serious tone.
4. Japanese goofiness doesn't strike a chord with me.

I'm hungry for another fantasy tactical RPG. Will I like these Nippon-Ichi games or should I look elsewhere for my next strategy-RPG fix?

You've just described everything that these games ARE.

Its full of complicatedness and goofiness/humor, not to mention a kiddish animation style.

I suspected as much. Thanks for the reply.
