I wonder how many more millions Microsoft's Entertainment/Xbox division is going to loose because of this handheld.

I figured it was only a matter of time. And now with the PSP taking some heat off of the DS, I am not surprised. I'm not much of a handheld person, but this might be kinda cool.

This is old, remember when it was said that this would attach to the 360? MS is my fav of the three companys but going against Nintendo worldwide in the HANDHELD market is foolish. Just IMO.

It might be, but I <3 my iPod and I <3 my DS.

If the PSP is having a hard time on the gaming front (multi-media features aside) even w/ their brand recognition, I can't imagine M$ having an easier time.

This will fail, guaranteed.

It may even mark the downfall of Microsoft which we all see coming (and this is coming from a 360 owner).

It depends on the memory. If it has a 20g hard drive or enough to hold a good amount of music and videos (unlike the PSP), I'm sold.

Yea, and expect the battery life to be 30 minutes. Tops.

i dont think the handheld market has room to grow like the console market. its easy for people took hook up 3 or more consoles to a tv. but most people wouldnt carry two protables with them, let alone 3. having two is hard enough, you have to choose which one you want before you go out and such. seems like one would fail for sure, and i doubt it would be nintendos.

I would say about 4 -5 hours of battery life if they use solid state memory or have the games run off the HD.

Microsoft is going after Sony and Mac (Ipod). Slightly different consumer base when compared to the DS.

I don't think we need another portable. MS should stick to the console front and put all of its efforts into the 360.

Running the games off the HD would be great. No more 2 minute load times.

iBoy: a 20gig ipod with video and games. Games would be downloadable, rather than cartridge based. Give it nintendo's amazing library, and all i can say is

Ugh. Why does Bill Gates hate his money so much?

If he just wants to control various markets for, I dunno, pride, why stop at video games? I'd totally eat lunch at the XBurger.

I don't think they'll do this... They cancelled the Xboy last time.

If they do, it'll probably be a game system, ipod, and handheld pc, all in one. And why not? The hardware will be there anyway if it runs games.

I'd buy one, just to have a cheap handheld pc.

If they include a Pocket PC like infrastructure for Calenders, Tasks, Contacts, etc. that could sync with your PC, I'd definitely be interested in such a device. Figure out a way to have reasonable battery life and throw a built in cellphone into it and my pockets just got a lot lighter.

It will be as big as a vcr like the first Xbox. I think it will fail, I bet you anything it will be big and ugly and only a few people will buy it. BTW no I have nothing against xbox.

It's a great idea...But it's to late to complete with GBA's, DS's, PSP's,and the ipods...
Now the GPX32 now that's a system.

They have a chance to make something really cool. I'd love something similar to the PSP with screen size and button configuration but add a second analog stick and try doing something a little better than than the nub. My dream machine would be able to:

1. Play PS2/GCN/Xbox quality games
2. Play movies, music, store photos
3. Send and receive email like my blackberry with the option to actually view attachments like .pdfs, word docs, etc. (so yeah - mini PC)
3. Run everything off of an "iTunes-like" program where importing movies from DVDs is as easy as importing songs from CDs.
4. Come standard with an internal 60GB HDD.
5. Have a USB port so you can hook up and recognize any USB enabled device (lke the 360)
6. Optional cell-phone support

There's probably more but I'd pay $400+ for this if it actually did all this and worked.

I don't think it would be a good idea. It could even be an advantage to Sony because then companies could release the same game on two platforms if it is just a powerful, putting an end to the risk of making PSP only titles (high development costs for a portable). Follow Nintendo and Sony's example and introduce a portable when your number 1 and making a lot of money... in that market.

I like the quote about what it might be compatible with: "Xbox 360? Xbox?" Yes... they would clearly develop a portable in the next couple years that would be compatible with a dead system (not counting backwards compatibility as a result of 360 compatibility). Just wait, the next Gameboy might be compatible with the NES!
