LOL... Microsoft once tried to buy Nintendo, and Nintendo rejected them, so, basically, Cisco has no chance in hell.

That topic's a bit misleading. From the article:
"It's purely speculative, of course, but the possibilities are intriguing."
I could also speculate that I'll shit billions of dollars tonight and buy Nintendo myself...

Blame it on the Jameson's whisky, but I read "Crisco to buy Nintendo" at first glance...

Yeah... unless Cisco can somehow arrange a hostile takeover of a Japanese corporation, I don't think that would happen.

Microsoft offered tens of billions and Nintendo in the end said no.

People still read stuff from GamePro? I think they killed their credibility when they reviewed the 'final build' of DoA4 almost 2 months before it was released.;)

Nintendo Profits Soar
Company's third-quarter profit doubles from last year.
by Wade Steel
January 26, 2006 - Nintendo reported today a sharply increased fiscal third-quarter profit today and continued to affirm its estimated profit for the fiscal year though analysts expect that the company will increase its earnings outlook in the near future.
According to the company's financial statements, the consolidated net profit for October-December rose to 55.56 billion yen ($479.7 million) as compared to 21.3 billion yen for the same period last year. For the nine months ended December 31, the company posted a net profit of 92.2 billion yen ($801 million) up from 67.8 billion yen for the same time frame in the previous fiscal year, a 36% increase.
Nintendo reaffirmed its previous guidance that the company would book a profit for the full fiscal year ending in March of 75 billion yen ($652 million) based on 500 billion yen ($4.3 billion) in sales. Takashi Oya, a Tokyo-based game analyst with Deutsche Securities, stated that he believes that there is "no question" that Nintendo will revise its full-year forecast based on its most recent earnings report.

So, Nintendo isn't hurting. And Nintendo (like others have stated) does not want to sell to an American company anyway. Cisco is located in California.

Yeah, it's a great for a giggle or two. Can't really say anything if it's free, I meant more along the lines of people who actually pay money for the magazines.

It's on the second page of that article. To me, just mentioning Cisco and Nintendo's name together sounds plausible, but this news is surprising and almost way out of left field for me. Then again, hasn't Nintendo said repeatedly that they would never be bought out/aquired? Really, when I think about it, this news article sounds kind of naive, but in the world of business, cash is king and aquisitions happen all the time so who knows.
Another possible acquisition candidate for Cisco is Nintendo, the No. 3 game console maker in the U.S. (http://news.com.com/Nintendos+New+Years+resolutions/2008-1043_3-6028279.html?tag=nl) A stretch? Not really. Microsoft, which is emerging as a key competitor to Cisco in the home entertainment market, is already in this market with the Xbox 360 (http://news.com.com/Xbox+shortage+dings+Microsoft+sales/2100-1014_3-6031759.html?tag=nl). Gaming has already proved to be a strong application for broadband, so it makes sense that Cisco would want to own a game device to help drive more traffic on its network. With its popular GameBoy product, Nintendo would also provide Cisco an entree into the mobile-handheld market.
