All the time, I don't even know why I buy RPGs anymore; I never get around to finishing them.

I quit buying RPG's because I never finished any of them...ever...still working on FF7.

Yep, in the same boat. I've bought about 10+ Rpgs in a year and I only beat Jade Empire (when it came out) just because I paid full price for it and I wanted to trade it in for SMT:Nocturne (which I still haven't beaten). Hell, I haven't beaten any other game I bought (aside from fighting games). But I will try to beat at least 2 games before the summer starts.

the last one i beat was ffvii. back in june of 05. bahaha. seriously though, i get pretty far (usually around 25 - 30 hours) and then i buy something else. either another rpg or just a random cool game. i start playing the new game and forget all about whatever rpg i was playing before that. then when i try to get around to playing them they feel way too weird and i have to relearn the battle system and my startegies all over. ugggggghhh.

i seriously don't know why i buy rpgs anymore either.

rpgs i started i havn't finsished (as of recent.)

dq8 (havn't even cracked 10 hours.)
xenosaga 2 (it kinda sucked so i dont mind.)
suikoden 3 (love it, just never got back to it. almost done though)
smt: nocturne (forgot about it. haha.)

just think of it as a future investment in playing video games.

yes. RPG-wise, I bought SMT: Nocturne maybe 3-4 months ago and haven't touched the game since I had it repaired. I then bought Dragon Quest 8 a couple days ago after seeing my friend play it.

i'm always afraid to beat them. i'm afraid i won't ever want to play them again.

i've only beaten one game so far, on purpose.

well, i've beaten more than that if you count each part of .hack, but i consider the 4 games to be one as far as the "beating" them goes.

I rarely beat RPGs, but I don't think that detracts from the fun. I just don't have the patience, the nature of RPGs is long & repetitive (not a good combination).

All the time man; happens to a lot of my games. Most of the time it's of the RPG genre because they are the most time consuming, allowing more important things like work and school to get in the way. However, the biggest reason (not sure if this is true for anyone else) as to why it seems difficult to finish RPGs (for me at least) is that I forget what's going on with the actual story. Games that have quest logs (or something that can help you remember what you're supposed to be doing after you take a hiatus from gaming) sure do come in handy when you want to finish a game (i.e. Tales of Symphonia & DQVIII to name a few).

So if you have a tendency to buy more games than you can chew, try looking for games/RPGs that have a log of some sort to refresh your memory from time to time:headache:.

At least play Atelier Iris. That game is so unique/good [not in terms of combat, however].

seriously atelier has been calling my name since it came out. finally GC had it for 29.99 so i got it with my employee discount. that is one im def. gonna play. no matter what.

i agree though. ive had tons of fun playing rpgs but not finishing some of them.

xenosaga 2 was a let down though. big time.

but yeah school, music, work, all get in the way of beating rpgs for me. whatever, i plan on beating atelier iris. the alchemy part of the game sounds cool.

Not only do I not finish RPG's, I dont even start them! I actually played Disgaea for a good 100+ hours and then stopped. I thought to myself, man these type of games are great. So now I have La Pucelle, and Phantom Brave, and FF Tactics, and a bunch of other srpg's sitting on a shelf untouched...lol

I generally buy up any halfway decent rpg if I see it for a good price, cos historically, rpg's are the games that keep their value the best. Look at any older gen system and all the most sought after games are usually rpg's. So even if I dont play all my PS2 rpgs this year, or even next year, I'll have them in 5-10 years when everyone and their mother is looking for them...

I don't buy rpgs for that reason and I have a backlog of games right now that I have yet to play. I need to get started on them.

I buy games for the same reasons most CAG's do. I just consider it stocking up, and if it's cheap, even better. I just don't ever want to deal with the hassle of possibly passing up a game that might be difficult to find. It gives me peace of mind to just get it and be done with it. Right now I've got DDS 2, and I'm kinda stuck on it, so it's shelved for now. I'm trying to wait out on rpgs till Shadow Hearts 3! :D

Since the PSone came out, I've ended up with a 20-hour cap on most RPGs. Exceptions I can think of off-hand are: Suikoden, KOTOR I and II, Shining Force GBA, and Disgaea (100+ hours). I have a TON of RPGs, but I tend to stick with games I can realistically beat in a fair amount of time. That way, I can cover more of my backlog easier.

 That's nothing... I have 116/215 games that are incomplete. I used only have like 10 but then I discovered CAG and it was never the same again.:-(

I'm hoping to not buy any of the next gen consoles... I have so many other games I want to finish instead. But that Revo is looking tempting.

I can't see how you guys play rpgs back to back or multiple rpg's at the same time. Once I beat one, I wouldn't even want to touch another one in awhile.

Hell, I have no social life, and I've only been able to put about 40 hours or so into Fire Emblem since I got it in October.

I think I'm going to skip this next generation of gaming so I can play through everything I've accumulated in this generation. It will be cheaper on my wallet to do that :)

yes, and with dragon warrior 8, just like you. rpg's are hard to get back into. the longer i wait, the more story i forget, and the less i want to play.

Ouch! My 53% isn't looking too bad now.

But seriously, they need to increase the number of hours per day. I think 36 would be good.:D

I sometimes wish I didn't have a social life... to accomplish such tasks as these.

Actually, it's not too hard. During summer, I can usually play 6 hours of games per day. For an average RPG (say 40 hours), that means it only takes about a week per RPG. So during summer, you could easily finish 6-8 RPGs. And that still leaves 8 hours per day to do social stuff like hang out with friends, go weightlifting, eating, partying, etc. and 8 hours of sleep... of course, there is more free time some days than others and this isn't considering that you have a job (which would cut gaming time down to an hour probably).

Don't think of yourself as some kind of stud. You just need to manage the time you have.;)

Onetrackmind, you ever get Castlevania to play in your PS2? If I had known you had more then 200 games in your backlog I wouldn't have sent that game... out of pity. ;) Seriously, that is way to many games to own and not have played yet.

Maybe you can set aside a hour everyday and force yourself to play (like work or school). That's how I managed to eventually beat FFX. Then again, my hatred of that game grew with every second I spent forcing myself to play it but I've beaten every FF since Mystic Quest and I couldn't leave that one unfinished. Hmm maybe that's not a good idea afterall.

Actually I had to send my PS2 to Sony to fix and i finally got it back over the weekend. I still need a ps1 memory card which im going to order at ebgames.com. As soon as that bad boy comes in SOTN is getting top priority. I seriously cannot wait to play it.

The reasons i have so many games is 1. Its a culmination of 20 years worth the gaming 2. Cag allows me to get more bang for my buck 3. Having a fulltime job helps with having the cash to buy the games. Plus the fact i ahve so many games in my backlog helps me hold out on buying the newer consoles. I told myself i'm not buying a next gen console until i've played all the games i own atleast once.

I actually do i pretty decent job with completing games... just in the month of january alone i beat 8 games... on top of that im more than half done with GTA Vice City and im on the last boss in God of War. Almost 10 complete games in a month isnt too bad considering i work 50 hours a week ;)

My advice is this, play each one for 1 hour, see which you like best and play it unlike you finish it or get bored then move on. If any seem truely bad or unfinishable trade them off as soon as possible.
