hello - I'm asking another question on behalf of my gf again haha

She has shown me these glittery ds systems that are apparently only available at the nintendo world store in new york - does anybody know anything about these like how much they cost there - and if there are any other places to possibly find them - like has anybody seen them on ebay even?

thanks

*edit* here is a link to a ton of ds variants

http://www.britishgaming.co.uk/?page_id=394

the glittery ones are about 3/4 the way down - right under the 50 cent camo ds.

also - I took a closer look at these things - looks like they have like fake rhinestone things glued all over them - so I told my gf we might try getting a skin and glueing some jewels on it haha

*edit number 2* ok haha doing my own research here - found them

pretty slick looking actually - you know - for the ladies

the crystal DS systems made by NYC Peach are "nintendo world store exclusive" in that they're only sold there, but you can (from what i've heard) send them your DS and they'll customize it with crystals for you. that, i believe, is what will cost $350. the NWS had 24 systems made just for their store, so the design patterns are supposed to be exclusive. it's not 24 design patterns though, as some are repeats. it's only about 14 or so different designs.

the electric blue & silver ones cost $500 in store. the pink nintendogs one (that uses a japanese candy pink DS as a base) is $600 in store. the nintendogs one was also given away to a bunch of people as a prize at the nintendogs mall tour over the summer.

the crystals on them are genuine swarovski crystals, so they're actually relatively expensive, hence the inflated price tag. but they do look cheap tacked onto what is essentially a toy.

when the nintendogs prizes started arriving to the winners, one of those showed up on ebay and ended for just under $300. there's a guy on another message board that was in NYC for new years and saw these things... and walked out with like 6 of them, saying that he intended to sell them on ebay. he's started doing it with a reserve (probably the $500 he paid for them) and nobody's won one yet. they keep ending around $200 - $300 and not meeting the reserve, then he just reposts the same design. kinda backfired on him.

i'm sure that down the road, as the word spreads about these, they sell out from the NWS, and people realize how "rare" they are... prices will go up. (though, it's hard to call them rare if you can customize them however you want. the only rare part is the layout of the crystals.)

i'd like to pick one up at some point, but i sure as hell am not paying $500 or $600 for one. i might pay $200 or $250, but that would be my breaking point. these aren't that cool... just neat collectibles.

You are SCREWED if you get one with a dead pixel.

Also, get a new girl friend. Your current one sounds expensive.

awesome info everyone - thanks for the help - as you can tell I've been doing a bit of research on it after I posted. What I think we are going to do is get some swarovski rhinestones from ebay and make our own on the cheap(er) - me having an mfa in studio art and her a degree in interior design means we are handy with the artsy (and craftsy) stuff and will be able to handle the assembly pretty easy I think - oh btw - my gf rocks - she is the one who bought her silver ds and animal crossing - and is now considering getting a pink import because that's what she really wanted - just didn't want to wait for it haha.

I wish they would release more limited edition systems here. I’m still a little sad that the US Famicom micro doesn’t have the little Mario logo on the back. I don't understand why NOA short changes fans how much extra could it have cost to add this nice little touch? Still thanks for posting it always cool to see the limited edition system from Japan.

I did a glittery thing for my girlfriend last year for her DS.

I bought the stones on eBay. I'll post a pic soon.

This takes about 5 hours.

And if you pay $300 for this. You're retarded. You can buy the stones for 80.

makes me feel better about my "i might pay $200 or $250" comment... if you figure a DS costs $130 + $80 for the stones... $210 for the full package. plus the labor of someone else doing it and not me, since i'd probably mess it up anyway... looks like my price range was dead on.

yeah, i don't understand what makes these things worth $500 or $600 from the nintendo world store... but whatever. some people dig it, i guess.
