Yo CAGer's...

So my internet is down for two weeks so I've got some time to play some neglected PS2 games... I am going to try and get back into DQVIII, however (as mentioned many times in posts), we all know how hard it is to get BACK into an RPG. If I wait much longer it's going to be sitting on top of Arc the Lad ][, abandoned for all time.

It's only been a month since I took a leave of absence so I'm still familiar with the storyline.

I am at the Dungeon right after PICKHAM REGION. The rogue town.

When I first started the game I was pretty pumped but then I started feeling that (and I have to admit, expected of the series) sense of sameness started to set it.

So how about it..without giving spoilers.. is the story going to pick up again? Lot's of cool stuff ahead?

What say you?

It picks up. Right now you're at the boring part wher you actually still acquiring characters and necessary spells/abilities.

Give it some time. The game rocks.

It will give you a hint of what's to come.

The story's pace is a little glacial, but this is not a game you rush through from event to event. It's best to take your time fighting lots of battles and talking to a lot of people in the world. It helps that the world is so immersive and huge. The game is also really good at introducing new gameplay elements as you go (ragazzo!). I'm at 43 hours currently, and gotten way more than my money's worth.

This slow pace isn't for everyone, but because I'm enjoying the game so much, I'm glad I'm able to take my time.

I hear ya man. I felt the same way, and took a hiatus from the game around where you were. However, after 3 weeks or so, I beat it right before my vacation ended. Yeah, the story is really slow in the beginning, but the story & game start to pick up after 15-20 hours into the game (depending on how fast you progress the story or time spent leveling up). All in all, the game is slow to begin with, but picks up right in the middle and throughout the end.:applause:

You have to keep in mind that it's a 70-80 hour game, so the climax is going to be later than the typical RPG.

I did everything in about 65; I guess different people go different speeds.

Anyway, I was worried about the exact same thing...but this is the part of the game where the characters sort of establish themselves and begin to grow on you. Get past the Dark Ruins dungeon and you'll really see things start to pick up.

Well, I explored every inch of the overworld, and beat the Monster Arena.

Yeah, same here. Looking at my game saves last night I got to the first ending at 82 hours and at Level 45. Now I'm at about 110 and level 55, having just beat the Darksteel dragon. Vegan, make sure you see my picture in the other DQ8 thread!

Huh, I thought you had to get all the pieces for that. I guess the sword isn't necessary though. And I got the alch. pot upgrade before the helm, so I couldn't complete my outfit till the Darksteel was history. Soon I'm going to try the next one...

I looked it up, you need the armor and the helm.

OK, I guess it was just my bad luck then, because I picked the sword, armor, shield, and alch pot before finally getting the helm with the Darksteel last night. I'm off to fight the next Dragon right now...

Ok, some new pictures in the other thread - Divine Dragon and some pics of the ending (only slightly spoilerish):
