Are you sure about that? The age requirement on the site changed today - it's now "21 and up to party", not "18 to party, 21 to drizzle". Otherwise, I'd love to go.
Do they check ID at the door? Do you have to get free tickets to get in?

05-29-2004, 08:21 PM
well i never confirmed which sucks. Can i still call and confirm? Im only 19 so i hope that wont be a prob.

05-29-2004, 09:12 PM

Akkis99
05-29-2004, 09:14 PM
someone said something about confirming. How do you confirm exactly?

i called the hotel its at... which got me in touch with the company doing the vent... who asked about it... and said... something like...
"its a 21 and older crowd at the hotel.. but the event is separately downstairs from the hotel crowd... and drinks aren't mandatory. no tickets needed... no id's checked unless you are getting drinks at the bar... just show up dressed respectably and looking 18ish and up, and there will be no trouble getting in the front door"
in other words... its free... but not for kids or... idiots.
alls i can say is... i think myself s pretty big idiot.. but i had no trouble attending the last three events there...
just show up and nod to the guy out front and say "Gamers Nite Groove downstairs right?"
no trouble.

Someone asked how much would a cab cost from Grand Central to the Tribeca Grand...
The answer - Big $$$ (at least for a true CAG) - probably $13-$15 since they recently raised cab rates. Best bet might be to take the subway downtown (the 6 train, which you can catch at Grand Central and will take you down the east side) to Canal Street and then either walk or cab it from there.

TOO MUCH FREE REDBULL TO SLEEP. MUST TALK ABOUT EVENT!
anyhoo... if you didn't make it out tonight for the free red bull, metal slug, king of fighters, gameboy dj bonanza.... do yourself a favor and kick yourself in the forehead.
this was definately a good time... i met two of the guys from eboy, the president of snk, and - best of all... cheapyd - live and in person. i got hooked up pretty well with the staff there too... and i just might have a job with this in the future...
i'll keep you posted if things go well with that... and i'll definately post the latest buzz on the June Gamers Nite Groove as soon as i hear something.
big shouts to the CAGs i did see at the event... personally, i think this thing should be a mandatory CAG NYC meetup.... after all... it was free!

I expected it to be more... social (?), but I can't say I was disappointed. It definitely was fun.
So I walk in, and the place is practically empty. A few minutes later tho, it quickly fills up and music is playing loud; the party didn't really get started until they started playing remixed 8 bit music. Meanwhile, two lovely ladies are walking around, handing everyone Red Bulls (I felt so bad for them since their bags must've been heavy with all those cans), and I decide to go find a game to play.
I made my way to King of Fighters 2000, and I challenged the staff guy there who was playing it. Of course, I beat him (to his credit, it was close) and I make my way over to another game. So, um... Onimusha 3 rocks, 'nuff said about that game. Surprisingly, Metal Slug 3, which was the most availabe game there, drew crowds of eager spectators.
Later on, CheapyD (I think it was him) came in with a cute girl who was wearing a CAG shirt (I wasn't staring at her, honest!) and I felt star-struck. I mean, here was the man who's responsible for our constant spending of money and increasing backlog of games left unplayed.
I didn't stick around long after that, so if something crazy happened, I wouldn't know of it.
Overall, I had a lot of fun, but I was going in thinking it was gonna be like the Nintendo Cube Club. It wasn't, but it was still fun in a different way. I'm now looking forward to the next GNG.

i assure you... that wasn't the case for this event. pretty much just 21 to drink. tons of late teens and 20 year olds were present.
