I figured we can have this thread dedicated to RE: DS. What's wong with it, whats good. I'm starting off with the classic mode and then will go to rebirth. So far the opening video is cheesy as ever, sadly its the edited american version. Also, all of those great one liner's are as good as they ever were. Don't open that door! I just used the knife on the first zombie and it seem's to be a little stronger then in the original which is a good thing. So far so good, what do you guy's think?

I think I'll be picking it up at GameRush tonight if they got it yet, that's what. And once I have it I'll edit this post so it says something worthwhile. It'll be my first look at RE, so hopefully it'll be good.

Planned on picking it up at Target, but they didn't have it. I asked the lady when they were expecting it in, and she told me that whatever was in the case was what they had.

...No shit, sherlock.

In any case, I'll probably order it from Amazon soon since I'm about to make an order there anyway.

I'm up to the part where you play the piano to open the wall. I think they did a fantastic job on the models. There is no comparison to the psx one and this one, this one is far superior.

That might be because they are on a 3 inch screen.

I read in one of the reviews (1up perhaps?) that the DS version has less polygons than the PS1 version which goes to show that detail is what really matters.

That's very true. You can tell some of the backgrounds are a little bit worse then the other versions, but that's not that big of a deal.

I wouldn't say its a big deal...but a 10 year old game for 34 bucks...I dont know about that. I think I'll just wait for a price drop.

What are the cutscenes like in rebirth mode? Did they just use the regular ones from "classic" mode?

I hope they manually added in a massive gap of time between 'Dont open' and 'that door', to simulate the PS1 loading experience.

Do doors load?

You can supposedly skip the door animations if you want to since a cartridge doesnt need to load.

So does Minority Report on the GBA, but yeah....people are saying you can skip the door animations...

You can... they just left the door animation in for novelty's sake.

No loading is another plus. But it does show the door opening just for the original's sake. As far as the cutscene's in rebirth, there the same as the original.

I picked this up today, and it is exactly what you would expect it to be.. Resident Evil on a handheld. The gameplay is still pretty good for being such an old game, and having a game like this on the go is awesome. The graphics are worse then they were on the PS1, and I have no clue how anyone could think different, it's pretty obvious. It still looks good, but it's much more grainy, and washed out then the PS1 version.

All in all I say if you're a huge RE fan or really need a new DS game pick it up now, and if not, wait for a deal or a used copy.

I actually bought it about an hour ago....because well, I wanted the free T-Shirt at Gamestop...I am seriously thinking about returning it though for MGS3: Subsistence since well....$35 is a lot for a 10 year old game.

Multiplayer?

Wi-Fi or multiple DS's.. and if so, can you play multiplayer off of one cart or does everyone have to have it?

megaseadramon
02-09-2006, 06:11 PM
I believe everyone has to have it, and local, no wifi

Dr Mario Kart

Is the cooperative multiplayer playing 2 people simultaneously in the regular single player campaign? Or is it a separate thing altogether, I was never clear on that.

Its all black, on the front it says capcom on the upper left, and on the back it says "RESIDENT EVIL" in large lettering and pretty cool font. Oh, and on the sleeves, one says Gamestop and teh other says EB Games.

I've been playing through it since Thursday, and I really dig it. I know RE4's suppose to change the way you look at past REs/drag their worth down, but I've had nothing but fun playing this through on classic (haven't gotten around to Rebirth yet). This makes 20 minute bus rides fly by like nothing. My two lone complaints with REDS is the lack of online play and the lack of a quick save feature.

Online play would have made this the ultimate game.

I had a 4 hour marathon of it last night. REALLY FUN even after playing through RE 4. Also playing classic, with Chris, followed by Jill, followed by Rebirth Chris and so onnnn

I doubt it would've made that much of a difference, from what I've read, multiplayer seems to be mediocre. Apparently even though you'll be playing either against each other or with each other, you never actually interact with the other players.

What is this Rebirth mode?I haven't opened mine, but according to the back of the box, it's more action oriented. Maybe less suspense oriented?

Dr Mario Kart

Rebirth mode just has puzzles regeared towards the DS. Like moving the hands of a clock with the touch screen rather than just holding a direction. Also more creative things.

There is a...almost mini-game like thing that happens randomly when you open doors every now and then. You go to a first person perspective with a knife automatically equipped, and zombies and whatnot come at you and you stab and slash at them with the stylus like it was a lightgun game. It occasionally gives you ammo when you complete it.

Other than the new interactivity, I just recently had the following thought:

Why am I not just playing this on Gamecube. Seriously, I dont actually play the DS outside the home, I treat it like a home console that I can play anywhere in the house.

Same here. I don't tend to play portables outside of home because I don't like the distractions.

Let's get a DS player for Gamecube going so we can play DS games on dual TVs.
