Joystiq:
Yuke’s Media Creations (WWE titles, Rumble Roses XX) is currently hard at work on a new project for the PSP, The Dog Happy Life. Despite Yuke's previous track record, this is not a wrestling title featuring dogs—however intriguing that concept may be. Instead it's a cuddly puppy simulator, not unlike the DS's Nintendogs, minus of course, touchscreen capabilities. The Dog Happy Life is currently scheduled for an April 27 release in Japan.

Virtual pets have been round for ages, but it's hard to call "coincidence" on this one. It'd be sweet if the actually called this PSPuppies.

Given the fact that Nintendogs was absolutely nothing new and had been done time and time again for PC... I'd say although they may be trying to cash in on the success of Nintendogs, its not really intellectual theft here.

The humor in it comes more from the fact that a lot of Sony fans claimed the idea of Nintendogs was completely idiotic, and that it would never catch on. As I said, Virtual Pets have been around for ages, but I'd be hard-pressed to call this coincidence. If they want to cash in, they should make it some kind of fictional creature...like a dragon or Ogre.

That's right, it isn't intellectual property theft. It certainly is weak that after all the shit PSP fanboys flung about Nintendogs being gay and for girls, there's a new puppy sim on the way for PSP.

Well for what it's worth.. I'm not a fanboy of either.. but I still find the idea of Nintendogs completely idiotic. But hey, to each their own.

I don't think Nintendogs is gay, but I know my wife and daughter got Nintendogs for Xmas, and they still spend 2 hours with their DS every night.

You've petted a virtual dog with a stylus before?

Nintendogs is a cross between that dog adventure game and those god forsaken tomogachi things.

I didn't buy Nintendogs and am not going to buy this game, so I can't care less.

Something similar to that, then? Dog's Life was released way before Nintendogs..

Thumbs-up to proper, logical grammar!

So because they used a stylus instead off a mouse.. that makes it an entirely new concept?

I know it wasnt addressed to me but the touch screen adds a different level of gameplay so yea.

I didn't mean that at all. I wasn't aware of any Virtual Pet-ish game that allowed for interaction in that way. Please link me. :D

But in that game you are the dog. In Nintendogs you are a dog owner. There's a difference there.

I think the main thing that made Nintendogs unique wasn't really the touch screen but the voice recognition. It was cool to say a phrase then my dog would do a backflip. Of course the PSP version is cashing in on Ndogs popularity though, just like that Wario Ware type game.

http://desires.com/2.3/Tech-toys/Dogz/dogz.html

There was a complete series of Dogz and Catz in the early to mid-90s or so for PC that basically did the same thing as Nintendogs.. also ran around your desktop and occasionally chased your mouse, etc.

Same thing, just with a mouse.

Oh wow.. they're still making that same series? I remember getting the first Dogz way way back.

I thought the same thing when I looked it up. I never knew there was a 2, much less a 5. I remember loving the little demo of the first one I had, but I never bought it.

I had never heard of Dogz before.

So that was Nintedogs Alpha. A poor man's version. But it can in no way rival Nintedogs; with voice commands, all the toys and items, and interaction with other people's dogs. On those three merits alone I'd say it's something "new".

No, it's something enhanced. Much like say the latest Star Wars RTS compared to say Warcraft I.. many more items, groups, units, strategies, better AI, more involved maps.. but still an enhanced version.

http://petz.ubi.com/about_dogz_5.php

More breeds, your dog can have litters, multiple playscenes, weather/time effects, mini-games to play with the dog, and many toys/clothings... I'd say it may well be more enhanced then Nintendogs excluding the voice commands.

I'm not trying to knock Nintendogs here, just saying its really not anything new that Nintendo can lay claim to.

Oh wow. After reading that first link, I just assumed it was a dog that kinda sat on your taskbar like one of those virtual strippers. I didn't realize is was a game. Reading/looking at the Ubisoft link, I'd have to say that it looks pretty decent.
