I've started FF X-2 and it keeps pimping the fact that "You control the story by your actions, yadda yadda yadda...."
My question is, is it possible for things to change by waiting too long to go to certain hotspots, etc.? Will things change according to whether I do Mission A before Mission B? Or am I making this too complex in my mind?

It depends if you want the 100%(best ending) or not.
If you want the 100% you will have to do the missions in a specific order. If you don't care about the best ending just do what you want in whatever order you want.
It follows the same story line no matter what you do. The only thing that changes is the ending(100% or not).
Getting the 100% is a fucking chore so I said screw it and played for fun over best ending.

Ultimate weapons in FFX, anyone?
Yeah, I don't like the modern trend of RPGs having some things that, if you want it, you have to spend an extra 50 hours jumping through 100 hoops.
I'm actually looking forward to the Mission element of the game. I can play in short spurts here and there, and feel like I accomplished a few goals during the course of an evening.

Yep I agree. In FFX-2 if you do one thing out of place no matter how small it is(like talk to the wrong person or miss one TINY cut scene which has nothing to do with the story) you won't get the 100%.
Thanks Square...

I hear ya, I feel obsessive compulsive enough playing RPGs as it is, I don't need to be made to feel like I can't even live up to THAT.

As far as i know, you action or choices you make, affect later actions. And no, the game does not suck.
Perhaps hopping from hotspot to hotspot is not a good idea, mainly because you don't level up to beat the boss's. But i think its possible to it whithout visiting other areas.
But if you want to get the whole story, you should visit every location to get as many spere's.

So it's not pointless to go to non-hotspot areas? I was wondering about that, too.

Exactly. I have to admit that i have the Brady guide. So i could always check, what should be done. But i try not to use it.
The funny thing is, compared to FFX, that some fiends are fairly easy to defeat, but Bossfights more tuff, because of your reaction and decission making.
So far, i enjoy it and i don't think it is a bad FF.
How far are you?

The story in x-2 is pretty meh. Personally I LOVE the battle system for the game tho so i could care less what the story and characters are doing because the battles are so enjoyable.

I've only done 2 missions but so far it's decent.
I don't like the combat system nearly as much as in X. I spend all my time looking at the menus during fights and scrambling to make selections, instead of strategically making selections and then watching how well they play out. I don't know think I even know how much damage my characters tend to do, much less know what the average amount of HP for any enemies is. That's bad.
The missions and the platforming... I can see how some people would be turned off by that. People complain about all RPGs being the same, but I think that's a big reason why they sell. I think it's refreshing for something casual.

I think i am done so far 14%, which is not a lot (haven't much time really). But so far i like it. Some of the minigames are kinda hard, but have to practice more, perhaps.
I did not mind to have a more action oriented combat system. The main key is balancing. I am not sure, which combination is the better one, but at least its fun. And i hope to get the special custumes.

I started replaying it. When I played it on 'my own', I got something like 68%. I'm using the Brady completion guide/checklist to try to go through everything, but if it involves winning blitzball or the card game, I probably won't end up with 100%, because I didn't like those.
I do like the game though, it does not 'suck'. The feel is definitely different, but I love the job system and the fact that you can change jobs anytime. And that you work on three characters rather than having to spread out and level up 8 or so.

I'm liking that you can stop an enemy's attack by hitting him at the right time.
If you fail a mission in some other way than dying (I'm thinking of the "protect the merchant from raiders" mission, stuff like that), do you just retry it, or are events altered because you failed?

Not sure about that.
But funny thing. I never got to this mission. Instead i had to sell tickets for him. Maybe the events change, or it is the in which order you approach.

I want more Yuna talking like she's a dressed-up Moogle. I found that pretty amusing.

Just my opinion on the game, but I didn't like it much, maybe because I actually liked FFX alot, and FFX-2 just seemed like a way to get some more money out of it. I guess you could say that its still better than alot of other RPGs, but the fact that I had been to most the places in the game before made it seem like a chore to play.

I LOVE the job system also. It gives you control on how you want the characters to turn out instead of following the normal linear way.

It can get a bit boring in the sense that here I am playing the exact same map all over again. Many times it feels like a mod/expansion of FFX.
