Well, i am not sure if this is really cheating, but its kinda boring.

Example, Sky Garden. There is a part of the track, where the track is pretty close to the following track after a curb.
I noticed, that some players jump over it in order to be ahead of the game.
Now i could use the same strategie, but to me its already hard on the edge to a cheat.
I really wonder, if it is possible on all tracks.

Anybody has similar things seen? What you guys think about it? Am i an idiot not to use the same strategie?

You do save alot of time taking that shortcut (maybe too much depending on how you look at it) but it is alot harder to pull off (harder at least at the speed the game plays at on WFC) then the other shortcuts in MKDS and is the only one I can think of that you need a mushroom for and can't do using a mini turbo.

It isn't "cheating" if everyone can do it. That's like saying the long jump on Rainbow Road in Super Mario Kart was a cheat! Blasphemy.

"Snaking" (wasn't this called power sliding in every other MK?) might make the game extremely boring since you have to constantly do it to win, but this is no different from any other Mario Kart game.

I think these types of situations (skill manuevers) just separate people who suck from those that don't. If you want to master it, you have to constantly practice it. Cheating is a different matter all together though.

Fixed.

People who don't want to master the ways of winning and get upset if someone is power sliding shouldn't be playing online then.

...and that's the problem with online.

I think people who complain about people using techniques that they can't do are just pissed that they can't do it themselves. If they just wanted to enjoy the games, without worry about beating some punk online, them it shouldn't matter to them. They should enjoy the game for what it is (online or not).

Snaking IS annoying though. My idea of a fun time is mashing left and right as quick as I can the entire race. I wish they wouldve reverted back to the original, with the simpler, jump and slide. The pro-time trailers of Super Mario Kart would pull so far ahead of you from the start that you couldnt even shoot them. THEY were good. It wasn't about having ungodly endurance. It was about having all the corners down to a science.

I can snake just fine, I just really dont think its worth the effort just to win.

Its a racing game, not a snaking game.

I like Capcom's philosophy on what it means to be mashing left and right. In Street Fighter, if you're mashing left and right, it means you're dizzy, which means you suck cause you're getting beat up.

I personally don't thinking snaking is that hard to do, but I get your point. It's completely analogous to me playing online FPS. I don't claim to be GOD and just want to get online and have a little fun. I usually get owned, but I expect this. It definately is frustrating when you can't move 2 feet w/o getting sniped.

mm.. i am not saying that it is really cheating, but it is kinda anoying if you don't play alot.
But i am impressed that there are possibilities you could use shortcuts. But snaking around is somewhat lame i think.
But maybe i will learn this skill too and start snaking the tracks along. :)

That would be a short cut, no?

Mario Kart 64 Rainbow Road had something like that.

As did the Koopa Beach and the Wario Course

You know what I get MORE tired of in online Mario Kart? Not the people that are so good I have to up my game to win (of course, I am fairly proficient at snaking, so its like a good challenge for me), its the people that suck so much that I have to stop even powersliding(no boost either) to even make the match interesting for me. And some times, these people don't know how to drop out, so I have to go through four excruciating races to get my win, because I sure as hell not gonna drop out and take a loss on account of their sorry asses.

What are the benefits of snaking? I haven't played this online yet to know what it is (since I just got the game).

I played one person who chose Sky Garden every time because he could do the shortcut. Needless to say, I cant... and I lost.

IMO, the sky garden shortcut is not cheating. Anyone can do it without an item and it's very easy. Snaking isn't cheating, but it's very very annoying when you face someone who is like a pro at it. I can snake, but not like a pro and I usually only do it when I'm far behind, or facing another snaker(s). This is all only opinion on my part.

Snaking isn't that hard after you practice it for a while, but for me at least, it really hurts my hands and bothers me after just one race. It really makes the online part of the game unenjoyable for me if there is a snaker playing.

Yeah, me the same.
I agree that all that what was said is not cheating, but could be anoying.
I got told that at Sky Garden, you don't even need a Powerup to jump over. Havent tried myself, but will try soon.
Closing comment. We have to try more to be better. Somehow no voicechat is a blessing. Imagine how people would talk in situation like that. :)

When I first started playing online I thought a lot of people were cheating. It appeared that some racers could fall off a track such as Rainbow Road or DK Pass and immediately be put back on the track, further down the course. Then I found out that this was a result of lag. And before you learn how to snake or take shortcuts, both of those seem like cheating, but they're not.

The same things could be done in MK64 and DD, though executing multiple MTs did seem more difficult in MK64. Since I have become quite good at snaking I see nothing wrong with it and I actually feel that it takes a good amount of skill to master it on all the tracks, especially RR, Choco Mountain and Choco Island 2.
