I started out today just lounging around and playing some PS2 games; some Killzone, a bit of Burnout, but mostly Gitarooman. Anyway, I come back home now after doing some errands, and to my dismay I find that no matter what disc I put into my PS2, I keep getting DREs. The disc can be used, old (one of my older games), and even new and doesn't make any difference; the damn thing won't play them. It is extremely irritating. I know that I have had DREs in the past, but it was only with one blue-bottomed disc (Contra) (and made a thread about that issue before), so it never really occured again with any other disc. My guess is that I probably have to realign the laser or something, but am really unsure and could really use some CAGs help. Maybe I don't have to deal with the laser or anything at all since it was working today in the morning.

Well some of the things you can do(without taking the ps2 apart) you can vaccum out the vents W/ the hose attachment, you can use a can of compressed air , to blow out the dust, dirt, hair etc.. also try to use a dvd/cd lens cleaner. If you do decide to take it apart there are some nice help guides on the net..

The thing is with my ps2(that I just traded for on cag) it has no DRE's but when you play the games for a little bit it freezes!(it sucked when I was playing shadow of the colossus)

that is a problem I don't know how to fix, well I play most of my games off of the hard drive(main reason why I wanted a "fat" ps2) now, so I don't have to worry about it to much.

anyway , good luck.

I used this guide when I had problems with mine and it works like a charm now.
