Black NEC 8X DVD+/-RW drive

Has Nero software bundled as well. This site is pretty good, have ordered from them before, in case anyone is concerned about it being a fly-by-night.

I'm pretty sure you can get this same piece at newegg.com as well, if you trust them more (or want the cheap/free fedex).

Uhhh...you are aware that DVD burn speeds and CD burn speeds are different, right? A 4X DVD burner is equivalent to almost a 40X CD burner, at least where bits per second is concerned. I'm not sure you could build a machine fast enough to write 24X to a DVD. I think 4X does a full DVD in about 15-20 minutes. 8X would be about 10 minutes.

HP DVD +/- RW drive, $111 with a $30 rebate. Comes out to be $81 AR (free shipping).
I've known HP drives to be much better than NEC drives.

12x are out now, but they are like $250. 24x wont be out for another year or so. 8x is fucking fast, like 15 minutes.

Yeah, and when you can find 8X media, you'll pay out the ass for it. The faster drives won't be worth it until:
-Other hardware catches up to provide the needed throughput that will match burn speeds
-blank media comes down in price

I'm waiting until the dual layer burners and media become readily available. Although I've read that some drives can be converted to support dual layer burning with a firmware upgrade.
